Twilight Golf, Tennis Social Have you voted? Our new monthly publication for members Dinner

From: Judy Robinson

is in need of a name. Kindly check out Editor Jim Stauffer’s column for an easy way to record your choice by email! And please take some extra time to read our chairmen’s letters and the advertisements of upcoming events. We’re working to keep you informed and involved! “Summertime and the livin' is easy.” June sends us into scenes of summer: visits from family and friends, extra time on our lovely beaches, early morning golf and tennis games and relaxing evenings to reminisce and cool off or to join friends for dinner at the club. Our calendar is light, reflecting that our part-time residents have headed north, and hot temperatures have slowed us! June 9 - Twilight Golf and Tennis and Dinner (fun games followed by dinner with a keg of beer and carafes of wine, courtesy of the BOG.) June 16 - Members Dinner and Mixed Couples Bridge – we’re trying a requested get together; popular in the past. Let’s deal a grand slam in the Members Dining Room! June 25 - End of Month Golf and Dinner: Member-Guest event. Make your foursome and plan to show off our beautiful Barony with dinner to follow.

The recent increase in the number of PRPC memberships has enriched the activity fee fund. At the May BOG meeting, it was voted to return those funds to the members who participate in golf (18 hole Ladies, 9 Hole Ladies and Men’s Golf) and tennis. The funds are to be used to improve the golf or tennis experience for all participating members. In addition, the Board has also increased funds for the social committee so as to enhance those events. We are excited to see the memberships growing. Please welcome our new members! (They are listed on the membership roster in the portal as well as in each monthly newsletter.) Remember to dress with the sun in mind and to grab that extra bottle of water for hydration. Enjoy our easy summer days!

In April we played our Member-Member Match Play Tournament and the winners for 2017 are:

It's hard to believe that we are almost halfway through another year and that summer will be upon us shortly. Soon, those of us on a permanent vacation will be swarmed by those enjoying their brief vacations here on Hilton Head. On the course we will need all the water we can take in, ice in our buckets, insect repellent, and lots of sunscreen to get through the heat and conditions that are a part of life here in the Low Country.

Flight 1, Barb Steiger and Mary Zych Flight 2, Tricia Higgins and Marianne Tillman Flight 3, Dinny Cuthbertson and Sylvia Sakuta. Congratulations. Thank you to all the participants. In May we enjoyed our Member-Guest Tournament, "50 Shades of Green", with a cocktail party at the Beach House on Monday the 1st. Thank you to our bartenders, Bill Papale, Howard Strauss, and Pete White. They were such good sports and ever so professional looking, as you can see in the enclosed photo. The next morning we enjoyed breakfast on the verandah, and a very well organized tournament with goodie bags filled with delicious green goodies. At lunch we were treated to green hummus, green champagne and a lobster- shrimp salad followed by dessert, green, of course. The centerpiece included herbs for the garden and each of us got a small piece of greenery to take home. We had over 30 teams participating. Our MemberGuest committees never disappoint us with their ingenuity, unique themes, and hard work. We thank Jolanta Taylor, Cheryl Moore, Carolyn Strauss, Yvonne White and Betsy Papale for putting this event together. Members and guests commented on how beautiful Robber's looked and played. Thank you Heritage and thank you Ben and Aric for the enthusiasm you always show for our events. And speaking of never disappointing and enthusiasm, please check out the photo of Becky Guin all decked out for our "50 Shades of Green" tournament. On June 6th we will have our Potluck at the Beach House. Please don't forget to sign up in the Brown Book in the Pro Shop for an appetizer, entree or dessert. I have been assured that the

Beach House will really be dismantled and is coming down Our last demolition theme may have been a bit premature it seems. The theme for our June Potluck will be "Summer Solstice", with casual picnic fare requested.

We have an updated photo collage in the Ladies Locker room. Carol Duffin and I have been busy trying to gather photos. The Nine Holers have outdone us in documenting all the fun they have so we have to step it up!

Ladies Nine Hole Golf Association

Joan Whitaker, President

Many thanks to the PRPC Board for the increase of our membership activity fund based upon the growth of our club’s membership base. It is good news to realize this growth in members and the benefits that come with it. Enhancing our golf activities is a welcome venture as we continue to make plans for our big multi club 9 hole exchange in November. What a wonderful way it will be to showcase our Port Royal facilities. Special thanks to Pat Pollak for pursuing this extra stipend.

Tee Time Golf on April 18 was really competitive with just 1 stroke separating the teams. Sue Huey, Mary Lou Murphy, Joan Whitaker and Sam Pruett took 1st place by a MOC over Fermina Evans, Jo Ann Gibbs, Bill Huey and Jon Wormley with Joan Pruett, Joan Street, Geo Evans and Jim Murphy coming in third. On 4/19, Jo Ann Gibbs, Ellie Kyle, Marcia Schwyn and Sally Ann Wormley participated in a nine hole exchange at Dolphin Head. A fun time was had by all, but Sally Ann had a blast taking home prizes for the winning team and closest to the pin! The very next day, Sally Ann continued her winning ways by scoring the best in our Individual Stableford game with Jo Ann Gibbs second. (Sally Ann, did you buy a Lottery Ticket during that streak?) On 4/27 Sue Huey edged out Jo Ann Gibbs for the win in our Low Putts contest. On May 4 we had our Low Net Tournament. The winner will be announced in December at our award’s luncheon. On May 11, we had our fun Skins Game with multiple winners: Mary Lou Murphy had 7 skins, Ellie Kyle had 5, Pat Pollak and Marcia Schwyn had 4 apiece, Fermina Evans had 3, Sue Huey had 2 with Joan Pruett and Joan Whitaker having 1 each. I hosted the Tee Time Potluck on May 16 which was a “Brats and BBQ” Theme including sides of pasta salad, baked beans and other picnic style dishes. It was a great way to kick off the start of the summer season on Hilton Head. Weather was super for those who participated in the golf. The winning team was: Sue Huey, Ellie Kyle, Mary Lou Murphy and Geo Evans. Once again, with good pairings, only one stroke separated the teams. Second place went to Judy Blake, Fermina Evans, Bill Huey and Jim Murphy with Jo Ann Gibbs, Marcia Schwyn, Dave Hair and Tom Street coming in third. Thanks so much to Judy Blake who was the DOM in May and to Jo Ann Gibbs who helped me with the Potluck. A very special Thank You to Ellie Kyle who has so kindly volunteered to take over our Tee Time Golf. Words cannot describe how very much we are missing our dear fellow nine holer, Jane McGahee. Jane loved our group and our potlucks and she organized our Tee Time Golf for many years. We are consoled to have Ellie stepping forward to continue to take on the responsibility of the golf. Ellie, know that we are ready and willing to lend you a hand. I will be the DOM this month. Please be sure to sign up to play by noon time the prior Tuesday. Sue Huey is in charge of the Monthly Potluck on 6/20. Check your e-mails for details. An important reminder: If and when you plan to play in addition to our scheduled Thursdays, please be sure to “Check In” at the Pro Shop desk before going to the course. Heritage appreciates the cooperation of all members in this endeavor so let’s be diligent. Thanks.

Golf Chairman’s Report Weather continues to cooperate although we need rain badly. Without rain, water restrictions by the City is always a possibility. Heritage is doing its best. Jon Wormley Our courses remain in excellent condition, and the credit goes to the staff of Heritage. They are working hard to improve the golfing and tennis experiences we as members are enjoying. We continue to ask for your patience and understanding as work continues on improving the playing conditions. Several of you have expressed your views on the density of mulch on several of our golfing holes. Be assured Heritage appreciates the positive and constructive comments. They are committed to address the mulch situation, but it will take some time and of course it does take funding. As we head into the summer months, we are seeing a number of members heading, or planning to head, north. We look forward to your return whenever that may be and your participation in our golfing activities. The Wormley’s and the Garmston’s along with assistance from Ben, Ann and Chef Eric are hard at work planning another great Member – Guest on September 28 – 30th. SAVE THE DATE – INVITE YOUR GUESTS. Entry forms will soon be available. Have a question? Contact Ben or myself. Success is always dependent on member participation. Join in the fun.

May 17th Super Men’s Day 1st Place Winners Tom Street, Joe Patrick, Bob Puls, Lanny Bailey Mike Hall Greetings from the Men’s Golf Committee! We had another great turn out for our 2nd Major Tournament—the Individual Match Play Tournament held in April. Coming in first in the Champion’s Flight was Lanny Bailey. In the White Tee Flights, Don Muehlberger won White Tee Flight 1 and Kelly Kellenberger won White Tee Flight 2. Wes Warren won the Black Tee Flight. Congratulations to all the winners!! The Pro Shop has posted the 2017 Championship Cup points standings accumulated thru the end of April. As we enter the warm summer months, in addition to our normal weekly events there will be a Champion’s Cup Event in June and July, and August; and then in September we will have our annual Member-Guest Heritage invitational Tournament— which is always a great event. If you haven’t played in this event before, I would encourage you to consider playing this year. Following that, we have our final two major tournaments for the year—the Men’s Club Championship Individual Stroke Play Tournament in October and the Member-Member Two Man Match Play Tournament in November. So keep accumulating those C-Cup points. Also, both Barony and Robber’s Row are in great shape. I have heard numerous comments from members that the courses are in the best shape they can remember. Many thanks to Heritage, especially Charlie and his crew for their efforts. Finally, thanks to our members for your increased participation in PRGC events. The Golf Committee is always looking for feedback and suggestions on how we can enhance our member’s involvement and improve the golfing experience. And again, as a reminder, please remember to fill divots, repair ball marks and rake sand traps for the folks following you. See you on the Links!!

Port Royal Racquet Club Super Senior Team Invitational Tournament

Port Royal Racquet Club hosted the Super Senior Men’s Invitational Team Tennis Championship from May 16 through May 18, 2017. This event resulted in some great tennis with players from ten teams who gathered here from all around the eastern half of the US. The championship was won by the Southern team from the Atlanta Area, their third win in four years, defeating Naples 3-0. Based on the success of this tournament, the teams are looking forward to returning next year possibly with two additional teams. Our local team from Hilton Head, including club members Dave Pardington, Rick Rickenbach, Tom Aholt and Tim Arr, placed eighth. Congratulations to all the Port Royal people who made this such a successful event again!
