Grades Pre-K-5 Workshops
SOIL TO SEED TO PLANT Pre-K-2nd Grade: Life cycles come alive in this interactive study of plants that focuses on the importance of soil, seeds and how they travel, and the elements plants need for survival. Students participate in a hands-on exploration of a worm farm and learn about the interdependent relationship between worms and plants. Each student has a chance to plant their own seed to take home. 3rd-5th Grade: Students explore the interdependent relationship between plants and decomposers, the pollination process, seed dispersal, and photosynthesis while rotating through stations of hands-on exploration focusing on these concepts. Each student has a chance to plant their own seed to take home. ENGINEERING AUTOS Pre-K-2nd Grade: Using our antique automobile collection and Henry Ford’s influential assembly line as inspiration, students work in teams to build model automobiles. They test different solutions and analyze their results for strengths and weaknesses to find the one that helps them build autos in the shortest amount of time. 3rd-5th Grade: Jump back in time and take a job in Henry Ford’s company. In a group challenge, students form teams, and problem solve ways to optimize their efficiency as they build Lego™ cars. Students will test multiple solutions, analyze their results, and report their findings to the rest of the group. This program includes a review of simple machines including the wedge, wheel and axle, pulley, gears, screw, inclined plane, and lever - and historical information about how Henry Ford’s assembly line changed the world.
Grades 6-8 Workshops*

They will also describe the interactions that occur within the forest ecosystem (role of producers, consumers, and decomposers) in the process of energy transfer in the food web while considering the human impact – both positive and negative – on the ecosystem. SIZING UP TREES NEW Explore techniques used by professional foresters to identify, measure and estimate the height, circumference, diameter, age and growth rate of trees. Working together in small groups, students will practice math skills by using various methods and tools to compare their results and evaluate the accuracy of each method.
