• Il primo rinvenimento di tracce di scrittura della Civiltà dell’Indo si colloca a Dholavira.

• Il periodo in cui la scrittura è passata da un sistema elementare composto da pochi segni ad un sistema simbolico che comprende più caratteri si colloca,secondo Possehl, nel momento di transizione dalla Fase Harappana arcaica a quella matura.

•Segni di scrittura, oltre che sui sigilli, si trovano anche su tavolette di bronzo e rame, tavolette in terracotta, armi, strumenti e vasi in ceramica.

La tavola raffigurata sotto è incisa fronte-retro.

• Nel 1920 furono intrapresi degli scavi che svelarono quelle che poi sarebbero state riconosciute come le antiche città della Civiltà dell’Indo.

• Le abilità tecniche degli artigiani dell’Indo fecero si che questa civiltà intrattenesse fitte reti commerciali anche con terre lontane, quali l’altopiano iranico, la penisola arabica orientale e l’Asia centrale.
