Remembering Our Hero
Abner White, affectionately known to many as Uncle Ray, was born to the late George Alexander White and Charlotte Annie Harris on May 19, 1928, in Tunica, Mississippi. He was the third child of seven. He professed Christ at an early age and served as a loyal and dedicated Deacon at the Union Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend H. E. Hoyle. He served this congreation for most of his life, continuing under the leadership of its current Pastor, Reverend Reginald Eddins. He was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Maude Ann Payton in 1967. To this union, two lovely daughters were born: Abner Brenscilla and Angela Latrica. He was a lifetime employee of Rexham/Bryce Incorporated for over 30 years, and he continued to serve faithfully until his health failed. He also was known for his impeccable ability to manicure lawns, which was one of his favorite pastimes. He departed this life on May 11, 2020, at Quince Nursing Facility. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers: George White and Tommie White. To cherish his memory, he leaves his two daughters Abner “Bren� Waller (Charles) and Angela Lester (Reginald); one stepson, Robert Smith; Eight grandchildren: Ronald, Unjala, Christian, Autumn, Roshun, Tony, Kya, and Kym; two great- grandchildren: Landon and Cali; two brothers: Sylvester White and Walter White of Memphis, Tennessee; two sisters: Rubbie Ruffin and Bernice Stinson of New York; a dear sister in law, Ida B. White; and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will cherish his amazing legacy forever.
