Life Reflections s

The sunrise of our beloved Bobbie Jean Mary Agnes Townsel-Cox began on October 15, 1945, in Lucy, Tennessee. She was born to the proud parents, Jeff Collins Townsel, Sr & Elizabeth Webster-Townsel. Bobbie accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age under the leadership of Reverend Early Gentry at New Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, where she used her beautiful alto voice in the choir. In 1992, Bobbie joined the Golden Gate Baptist Church Family under the leadership of Bishop E.H. Stephens, Jr. While at Golden Gate, she continued using her voice singing in the choir until her health caused her to retire. She also served in the Greeters Ministry and the XYZ Ministry, always with a smile and an encouraging word, until her transition. Her sunset came on Wednesday, February 5, 2020, at Baptist Memorial Hospital - Walnut Grove. Bobbie began her education at Woodstock School. She later attended Douglass High School and in 1964, Bobbie graduated from Manansas High School. Bobbie attended and graduated from LeMoyne-Owen College with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She worked in the Memphis City School system for years as a substitute teacher and later as a Preschool Teacher at Greater Community Temple Church of God in Christ and retired years later. Bobbie was loving, caring, compassionate, she loved her family and she loved life. She was the neighborhood mom when her girls were growing up and gained more children throughout the years.

Bobbie was always ministering to those whom she met. Whether it was verbally or physically, her light would always shine. She was a pillar of the community, but she made sure that her girls came first. Being an advocate in her own right, Bobbie was a hands-on mom and believed in Juanita, Alicia, Shanna and Reginald staying on task with their education. Bobbie always had a smile on her face, love in her heart, God’s Word on her lips and a song that always lifted her when needed. She was a true prayer warrior. If she told you that she was praying, you could believe that she was. Even when she was in pain, she was that beacon of light that everyone needed, when they needed it. Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents, Jeff Sr. & Elizabeth Townsel; daughter, Juanita LaVette Cox; sisters, Susie Mae Townsel & Marie Williams; brothers, Jeff Townsel, Jr., Leslie Townsel, Sylvester Townsel & John Townsel, Sr. She is survived by her devoted children, Alicia Cox-Hall (Gino, Sr) & Shanna Cox; siblings, James Townsel (Penny), Elizabeth Bradford, Earnestine Allen & Louise Jones; grandsons, Reginald Smith, Jr., Eric Smith, Sr., Devin Cox & Gino Hall, II; granddaughter, Gabrielle Hall; great-grandson, Eric Smith, Jr. & godson, Wiley Henry (Debra). Bobbie also leaves to cherish her memory a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
