Dorothy Bolden Obituary - Draft

The Day God Took You Home A million times I’ve needed you A million times I’ve cried If love alone could have saved you You never would have died. In life, I loved you dearly. In death, I love you still. In my heart, you hold a place That no one else could fill. It broke my heart to lose you, But you did not go alone For part of me went with you The day God took you home. ~ With Love, Edwin ~

In Memory of Our Mother

You were a precious gift from God above, so much beauty, grace and love. You touched our hearts in so many ways; your smile so bright... even on the bad days! You heard God’s whisper calling you home; you didn’t want to go and leave us alone. You loved us so much, you held on tight; till all the strength was gone and you could no longer fight. So you gave your hand to God and slowly drifted away, knowing that with our love we will be together again some day.

memory will live in our hearts forever.

Life Reflections

Dorothy Lynne Bolden was born January 6, 1952, to the late Dorothy Mae and Harrison Hoof, Jr. in Coldwater, Mississippi. She accepted Christ at an early age at South Side Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of founding Pastor, Bishop Samuel Smith. She committed her life to showing the love of God to others, and became a licensed Missionary in the church. Many lives were impacted by her demonstration of Christ’s love. On June 23, 1973, she married Mr. Edwin Bolden, whom she loved dearly. Missionary Bolden graduated from Hamilton High School in 1970, and she achieved several milestones in her lifetime. After high school, she attended Memphis State University, and later joined the team of Delta Airlines - where she served faithfully as an employee for twenty-four years. She also worked for Intelligent Electronics and Swift Transportation. She was recognized as one of Memphis’ Best Dressed Black Women, and she served as a member of the Memphis Urban League. Because of her sweet and loving nature, she was treasured by many. To cherish her memory, she leaves her husband Mr. Edwin Bolden; three children: Lakeisha (Kedrick) Cottrell, Takeisha (Roland) Woodson, and Taroan (Krissi) Bolden; seven grandchildren: Kendria Cottrell, Kedrick Cottrell II, Kaleb Cottrell, Roland Woodson III, Ryden Woodson, Reid Woodson, Bradley Bolden, and Brooke Bolden (one grandchild, Baby Aiden Woodson, preceded her in death); one brother, Harrison (Alycia) Hoof, III of Cedar Hill, Texas; one sister, Elaine Hoof; one aunt, Remel Bilbrew of Rialto, California; one brother-in-law, Lonzie (Vicki) Bolden; one sister-in-law, Barbara McKenley; one mother-in-law, Lois Hart; three nieces: Shenette Bolden, Kimberly Hoof, Esq. of Houston, Texas, and Pamela Hoof, MD of Dallas, Texas; a dear church mother, friend, and loving caregiver during her most recent illness, Mother Alcola Bonner; a dear friend, Carol Smith of Millington, Tennessee, and a host of other loved ones who will cherish her sweet memory forever.
