Servant
A TRUE
OF GOD
Woman of God. Servant of her fellow man and woman. Dora Ester McDavid. It all began in Memphis, Tennessee on the twentieth day of June in 1924, when Dora Wright was born to Richard Wright and Amanda Jackson. At an early age she was extremely studious and excelled in her scholastic endeavors. She graduated from the Booker T. Washington High School - a cherished institution whose name would later define and shape the remainder of her life. After high school, she furthered her education at LeMoyne College. As she blossomed into adulthood, she met a handsome young man who became the love of her life. She was joined in holy matrimony to Booker T. Washington McDavid. To this blessed union two beautiful children were born which included a son, Booker T. Washington McDavid, Jr. who preceded her in death. Sister Dora McDavid was introduced to the ways of holiness and holy living by her sister, Myrtle Lewis, who also preceded her in death. She was nurtured under the leadership and spiritual guidance of the founder of the Church of God in Christ, Bishop Charles Harrison Mason for whom her grandmother, Mother Dora Robinson, served as Supervisor of Women. Sister Dora became a faithful prayer warrior under the tutelage of Mother Alma Johnson who provided counsel and prayer. In spite of
having health issues early in life, Sister Dora continued to do God’s work with her district and jurisdiction as well as with the national church. Sister Dora served in areas such as vacation Bible school, prayer and Bible band; she was also the dutiful secretary for the Whole Truth publication under its editor Mrs. E. W. Mason. Her administrative work also included service with the late Bishop A. B. McEwen. She was an advisor, an encourager, a teacher, and a spiritual mother to countless individuals. Her sense of humor was disarming and always a comment away; she often used it to distract from her condition and personal needs. In every situation, she was forever supporting and concerned about others. On Friday, January 17, 2020, at the age of 95, Dora Ester McDavid transitioned from this life to life eternal. For a woman who believed in communicating with God and praising him with all of her might, she was literally ushered into sweet rest from a posture of prayer. She leaves to celebrate her life and legacy a loving daughter, Donna E. Morris, a devoted son-inlaw Eddie Morris, a grandson, Chris Morris (Gwen), a great-granddaughter, Alexa Morris, a nephew, Raymond Lewis (Pat), a daughterin- love, Marilyn Yeager, other relatives, her church family and friends with whom she left an imprint of love. This true servant of God will be greatly missed.
