Obituary

Mother Dorothy Mae Hearron Carr, born on November 2, 1927, was the seventh of thirteen children born to the late Frank and Mimie Hearron. Mother Carr was a lifelong resident of Kansas City, Kansas. She received her education from the Public School System. On July 27,1944, she married the late John Lewis Carr of Rentiesville, Oklahoma. To this union, six children were born: Johnnetta, Benita, John III, Terry, Denise, and Estellar Carr. At a young age, she accepted Christ into her life. She served as a faithful Member of New Testament Pentecostal Church, for over 70 years under Founder Chief Apostle Leona McGee, Apostle Blanch Rancher, and until her death, Dr. Christine Dunn. With God’s favor and strength, Mother Carr helped the church in many capacities. She had a helping hand with the youth department during special holiday productions. She also was the lead singer for the New Testament General Assembly Choir, Choir Director, Primary Sunday School Teacher, Radio Broadcast Announcer, Church Maintenance Worker, Secretary of the Board of Trustees, Church Clerk, and Building Fund Fundraiser. “Grandma Dorothy,” as she was affectionately called by many, asserted a strong presence in the Kansas Public Schools system by attending PTA Meetings, school plays and programs, recitals, musicals, concerts, talent shows, F. L. Schlagle Gospel Choir engagements and competitions. No matter whose child you were, she supported them all. She held the New Testament Junior Choir dear to her heart. Every Sunday morning she loved to hear and watch them mature into great singers. Not only did she minister and instruct the youth and young mothers, but she imparted wisdom to the young mothers on how to care for their husbands and children. She had these sayings for young mothers: “Oh I like your new shirt!!! Where’s the rest of your outfit?” Never judging, but loving, kind, and respectful. Remembering that she was once young and we needed to be patient and teach the youth. She truly fought the good fight of faith and actually finished the course of the race set that was before her. Two of her children, Johnnetta and John, preceded her in death, along with all of her brothers: Clifton, Christopher, William, Luther, and Roosevelt, and six of her sisters: Roosetta, Iola, Ruth,Voysie, Sweetie, and Shirley. She leaves to cherish her memory a son Terry Carr (Victoria) of Kansas City, MO; daughters: Benita Edwards (Leroy) of Kansas City, KS, Denise Holloway (Melvin) Overland Park, KS, and Estellar Fuller; her sister, Senora Carter of Kansas City, KS; special daughters, Susan Lally and Kay Miller, a host of grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, family, church family, and friends.

Order of Service “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. If I am to live in the flesh, that means fruitful labor for me. Yet which I shall choose I cannot tell. I am hard pressed between the two. My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better. (Philippians 1:21-23, KJV) Prelude . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
