Life Reflections
“13And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.” (Revelation 14:13 KJV) Dorothy Jean Williams was born on May 26, 1939, to Agnes Fields and Harvey Webb in Memphis, Tennessee. Dorothy confessed Christ under the leadership of Reverend Echols at Saint Paul Baptist Church in Olive Branch, Mississippi. In her early years, she was crowned Miss BTW at the historic Booker T. Washington High School. She was the wife of the late Oscar Williams, Sr. To this union, four children were born whom she loved dearly. Using her gift for music, she served as a songwriter and recording artist for STAX Records, releasing such legendary hits as “Watch Dog,” “The Well’s Gone Dry,” and “Closer to My Baby”. She spent many years as a Sales Manager for Term City Furniture, Ashley Furniture, and Value City in Memphis, Tennessee. Dorothy departed this life on June 8, 2022. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Williams, Sr.; her parents: Agnes Fields and Harvey Webb; two children: Cotina Jones and Magnolia Glover; a stepson, Elvis Cooper; and fifteen siblings. To cherish her loving legacy, she leaves two children: Audrey Williams (Ronnie Byers) and Oscar Williams, Jr. (Jeanetta); 11 grandchildren, 24 greatgrandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
