The Benediction
Our Beginnings
The Purpose of the Delivering Word Bible Church is to equip disciple-makers to proclaim Jesus Christ; who saves the lost, liberates the bound, restores the broken and empowers the weak. Having served in ministry extensively with families in the Whitehaven community, Pastor Vincent Joplin partnered with Urban Youth Initiative, The Network for Overcoming Violence & Abuse, Agape’s Families in Transition Program and Shelby County Schools. He followed God’s direction to serve the many residents of the Whitehaven community who lived near churches but remained disconnected from them. As new businesses were being erected, the emotional and spiritual state of the community seemed to have been neglected. The burden to see broken people delivered by the Word of God overwhelmed Pastor Joplin and was confirmed after he read Ezekiel 36:33-38 NASB. He immediately started gathering people in his home on Saturday mornings who desired to grow in their faith and hear the vision. Long-time friend, Mr. Patara West, was the first to help in laying the foundation in the community through mentoring in local schools, forming men’s disciple groups, and serving in senior living facilities. In November 2014, Pastor Joplin shared his calling to plant a church in Whitehaven with his Pastor, Dr. Kenneth Robinson, who replied, “It’s about time!” With Jeffery Cage and Devon Harrell at Pastor Joplin’s side, the charter was filed in 2015, which made Delivering Word Bible Church (DWBC) a legal religious organization within the State of Tennessee. In that same year, Harvest Church led by Pastor Dr. Kennon Vaughn asked Rev. Joplin to join their Pastoral Team and later commissioned him as an Elder. In August of 2018, Pastor Joplin was sent out by Harvest Church to publicly launch DWBC. The DWBC launch team consisted of Vincent E. H. Joplin, Larren Joplin, Renee Joplin, Courtney Vinson, Ingeria Vinson, Javien Vinson, Ariana Vinson, Charles Washington, Moriah Washington, Hannah Washington, Joy Washington, Jonathon Collins, Fredrick Macklin, Ryon Thomas, and Kasey Spencer. The launch team met on Monday evenings in Methodist Hospital and later on the campus of Southwest Tennessee Community College. God soon led Director Mary Olds to partner with them, and the YMCA became the new home of this impactful ministry. The YMCA facility has proven to be the perfect place for worship, providing a catalyst for engaging with those who are at various ages and/or stages of life.
People are often amazed by the great impact of this small congregation, but the members know that it is all by God’s grace! To stay connected with this ministry, please visit us online at www.deliveringword.org.
