Son To My
With Love
You were my firstborn, my strength and stay. Every day, you were a blessing and joy to me. As you grew and became a man, I saw the gifts that God gave to you. Knowledge and strength, just to name a few. You carried your firstborn mantle with ease. Always leading and never following. Always being the man God made you to be.
I will always carry you in my heart, and there you will be. Only time separates us and one day we will be together again. Herman, my firstborn, you were a joy to me.
Mama
I love you always,
Life Reflections
Herman Wilbourn, Jr. was born in Memphis, Tennessee on July 3, 1977, to Herman Wilbourn, Sr. and Judy C. Dickey. As a child, he was very mild-mannered, and he was a huge fan of the He-Man cartoon series on television. He was known and will always be remembered for helping others and for having an exuberant personality that instantly touched the hearts of others. Throughout his educational journey, he attended Levi Elementary School, Wooddale Middle School, and Raleigh Egypt High School. In addition to his admirable personality and his devout love for family, Herman was a builder who used his brilliant mind and the work of his hands to perform renovations, excavations, demolitions, and other construction-related tasks. He attended Southwest Tennessee Community College and went on to become a licensed Contractor. With a spirit of excellence, he could build and fix anything, and he enjoyed helping others throughout his life. He grew up under the Biblical teaching of his uncle, the late John S. Dickey and he applied those teachings to his life as he went about displaying love and helping and inspiring others. Herman departed this life on Tuesday, May 11, 2021. He was preceded in death by his father, Herman Wilbourn, Sr.; his maternal grandfather, Herman Dickey, Sr.; his maternal grandmother, Clara E. Dickey; his paternal grandfather, Fred Wilbourn; one aunt, Karen Dickey; three uncles: Willie Wilbourn, Earnest Wilbourn, and John S. Dickey; and three special cousins: Anthony Wilbourn, Jonathan Powell and Kelvin Dickey. To cherish his memory, he leaves his mother, Judy C. Dickey; his children: Marquez, Jordan, Jaylen, Gabrielle, JaKiya, Mya and Malik; two brothers: Brian and Polenski; five sisters: Candice, Candy, Brandice, Nalah, and Martha; his fiancée, Montrese Joyner; special cousins: Mica, Chantel, Angie, Derris, Benjamin and Mark; and a host of other relatives and friends whose lives will forever be impacted by his legacy.
