Remembering Arthur...

“For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand…” (II Timothy 4:6, KJV)

A

rthur D. Herod was born to Joe L. Herod, Sr. and Magnolia Stockard Herod on June 21, 1938 in Oxford, Mississippi. He was the seventh of ten children born to their union. He departed this life on Thursday, September 29, 2016. Arthur accepted Christ at an early age in the Christian Methodist Episcopal faith. He later joined Greater Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where he remained a faithful member of Male Chorus. He was a faithful church member with a unique gift for supporting and encouraging others and doing whatever his hands could find to do. Arthur was united in holy matrimony to Ella Mae Garrett in 1973, and they cherished each other lovingly for forty-three wonderful years. He was a faithful employee of Baptist Memorial Hospital, where he worked in Emergency and Non-Emergency Medical Transportation, and retired after forty years of service. He was enamored by the world of Martial Arts, where he studied combative skills and earned a black belt in Karate. Later in life, he became an enthusiast of unique car parts. He also spent countless hours at local salvage yards. Five siblings: Lebirtha, Rayford, I.B., Joe L., Jr., and Buener preceded him in death. To cherish his loving memory, he leaves his wife, Ella Mae Herod; two daughters: Chareal Herod (Holloway) and Hope Hubbard ( Javen), a beloved stepson, Michael Garrett; one sister, Artie Watson (Michael), one brother, Reverend Curly Herod (Vicki); a loving sister-in-law, Mamie Walker; a brother-in-law, Clarence Garrett (Regina); eleven grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was dearly loved, and will truly be missed.

Without a clue...without a hint of what was yet to be, God called you to be with Him & took you away from me.

You were a shining example of what a husband should be, And I’ll forever be grateful for the way that you loved me! Although you left me suddenly, and only God knows why, My loving memories of life with you will never ever die! ~ Your Wife, Ella Mae Herod ~
