Life Reflections
John Lee Jones, affectionately known as “Lee”, was born August 16, 1940, to John Lee Jones, Sr. and Virgie Strickland in Crawfordsville, Arkansas. He accepted Christ at the age of twelve at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in the “bottom” under the leadership of Reverend McKinney. He was baptized in Big Creek. At the age of seventeen, he joined the Lake Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend D. W. Knowles. Lee was ordained as a deacon in 1958 at the age of eighteen. He served faithfully for sixty-three years at New Lake Grove until his health failed. Lee is preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, Allen Nance; a brother, Larry Nance; and two grandchildren. He will be missed by his five daughters: Virginia Williams, Sharon Hughes (Richard), Annette Horton (L.C.), Teresa Jones, Tresa Briggs (Anthony), and Jessica L. Jones; two sons: John L. Newson (Domonique) and Jerrard L. Jones; three sisters: Joyce Latham, Lucy Whitaker (Jerome), and Pearlie Mae Robinson; six brothers: Charles Nance (Mooredina), Herman Nance (Joyce), Carlos Nance (Rena), Alvin Nance, Reverend Calvin Nance (Anna), and Elder Steven Nance (Lydia); a sister in law, Lucille Nance (Larry); a special cousin (who was raised as his brother), Bennie Rucks; sixteen grandchildren, thirty-seven great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who will cherish his legacy forever.
