Remembering Joseph Elder Joseph Luther Mitchell, Jr. was born June 4, 1975, to the late Joseph Luther Mitchell, Sr. and Gwendolyn Joyce Mitchell. He is the oldest of four sons. Joseph danced his way to the altar and accepted Christ at the age of four at New Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Reverend R.L. Mitchell, Sr. He later attended Miracle Temple Ministries (Apostle Benjamin L. Smith), and Manifesting Life Ministries (Pastor Sherri Livingston). After prayerful consideration and proper timing, God ordered his steps to Perfecting Love Community Church, under the leadership of his younger brother, Dr. Jason A. Mitchell. He loved music and served as the lead musician for several churches in his lifetime while remaining dedicated to his home church. Joseph was an amazing vocalist and choir director! He used his musical gifts to bless the hearts of many with the Higgs Family Choir, Miracle Temple Music Ministry, Manifesting Praise, Love United at Perfecting Love, Minister Shawn Jones and God’s Chosen Chorale, Minister Billy Rivers and the Angelic Voices of Faith, the Anointed Voices, the Celebration of the Arts Chorus under Dr. Leo Davis, the Men’s Fellowship Chorale (which raised funds for charitable organizations), the Hamilton High Alumni Choir, and the Grammy Award Winning O’Landa Draper and the Associates. Joseph would often be called on for many musical tasks, and he always shared his gifts willingly. As a graphic designer, he served as Founder & CEO of JaizCreationz Printing Solutions. He loved people and often did labors of love for his family and friends. In addition to his many talents, education was extremely important to Joseph. He graduated from Hamilton High School with the “Distinguished Class of 1993”, which he served as the Senior Class President. Joseph went on to succeed in higher education at the University of Memphis and the University of Phoenix. Most recently, he was enrolled in Union University pursuing a Master’s Degree and working toward passing the English Praxis Exam to become a teacher. Joseph knew how to appreciate the priceless things in life. He was a very loving family member and never failed to honor his relatives privately and publicly. He was very close to his family, especially the Mitchell Boys and his goddaughter Yasmeen McDown. Joseph was so proud that she had graduated from high school and will be attending the University of Memphis this fall. Joseph was preceded in death by several relatives. However, he leaves to cherish his memory and legacy his wonderful mother, Gwendolyn Joyce Mitchell; four brothers, Cedric (Tiffany), Marlon (Sharnise), Jason (Sharonda), and Je’sus Lackland; one sister, Elizabeth Anderson; a goddaughter, Yasmeen McDown, his beloved niece and nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.
