Obituary
Maggie Payne was born on February 28, 1921, to the late Wilie and Rose
Hall in Sunflower County, Mississippi. She was the second of sixteen children. Affectionately known as “Granny”, she confessed Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age. She often said, “I knew I didn’t want to die and go to Hell”, and she devoted her llife to serving Jesus and showing his love to everyone that she met in her lifetime. Maggie married James Payne on April 16, 1938. To this union, twelve children were born. Three children preceded her in death: Ruth (1955), Peter (1956), and Willie Edward (2011). She was a faithful member of Faith Temple Holiness Church for many years, where she prepared food for the daycare, worked diligently with the singles ministry, and lifted her voice in praise with the music ministry. In her early years, she worked in the cotton field - picking over 300 pounds of cotton in a single day. She used this experience to teach her children the value of working hard. As a homemaker in her later years, she served as a Christian role model to young people, which she did passionately. She peacefully answered the call of her Heavenly Father on February 10, 2017. Granny has finally received her “new body”. To cherish her loving memory, she leaves five sons: James (Reola), Rochester, David (Ruby), Paul, and John (Dinah); one stepson, James (Barbara) Payne; four daughters: Helen Payne-Hill, Betty Payne-Jenkins, Geraldine Payne-Gilmore, and Paula Payne; three siblings: Catherine (Mose) Williams, Veola Walton, and W. H. Hall; thirty-two grandchildren, sixty-one great-grandchildren, thirteen great-great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives, church members and close friends who will cherish her legacy forever.

Remembering Granny
“28Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. 29 Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. 30Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised. 31Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates. (Proverbs 31:28-31, KJV)
