Reflections of Life
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:7) Armintha Wren Peoples was born July 25, 1934 in Kaufman, Texas to the late Charlie and Henry Wren. She enjoyed a large family of nine brothers and a twin sister. She was educated in the Kaufman School System. Armintha’s life-long commitment to Christ began at the age of 13, when she joined the Free Church of God True Holiness under the leadership of the late Elder Elex Brown. There her leadership skills were nurtured and at the age of 15, she served as the Superintendent of Sunday School. Armintha moved to Dallas, Texas and united with the Victory Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. T. L. Edwards. Her devotion and diligence opened many doors of opportunity. In 1963, she was appointed President of the Starlight Band in the Unity District Association. In 1972, Armintha joined Greater Mt. Sinai Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor L. C. Jones. She passionately served as the BTU President, Sunday School Teacher and the Announcement Clerk. “Sis. Peoples”, as she was affectionately called by members of her church, served the Kingdom with excellence. Her works spoke volumes and her gifts continued to create opportunity for advancement. As the President of the Unity District Association Mission #2 and later, Mission #1, she traveled and represented the Mission Society at the National Baptist Convention for many years. She was instrumental in the Mission Society evolving into the Women’s Ministry. Sis. Peoples was more than a faithful servant, she was an innovator. She founded and spear headed programs such as the 300 Women in White, the Annual Preach Bowl, the Royal Family and the Queen Review which provided scholarships to young people going to college. Sis. Peoples loved her church and found great joy in serving on various committees such as the Pastor’s Aide, Family and Friends, and the Scholarship Committee. She received many awards for her hard work.
Armintha was a proud and dedicated employee of Hunt-Pallette, Inc. for 29 years where she worked in the home of Ray and Nancy Hunt. She considered the Hunt family and staff to be an extension of her family. Armintha was known by many terms of endearment. She was called “Gammy” by her grandchildren, “Mimi” by her great-grands, “Meethie” by her siblings and just “Mama” by her children. She loved people and made a positive impact on the lives of many! She was a role model and mentor to all ages. She was known for her straight-forwardness, generous spirit stylish dress, and beautiful hats. On September 13th, Armintha exchanged her hats for a crown! Armintha was preceded in death by her beloved husband Louis Peoples; her sister Arbella Eldridge and brothers—Willie Wren, Earnest Wren, Charlie Wren, Bishop Joel Wren and Benny Wren. The heart of Armintha was her family. She leaves to cherish her memory, her children: Charles Wallace (Celeste), Claudeen Preston, Lester Wallace, Randy Wallace, Linda Willis (Kevin) and one stepdaughter, Kay Peoples; ten grandchildren: Greg (Tanya), Quincy ( Jennifer), Sherrie, Kelli, Kevin, Jr., Randy, Jr., Brittney, Anthony, Debbie and Taniqua; five great-grandchildren: Essence, Quenton, Hannah, Brock, and Harper. Four brothers: Wilson Wren (Berta), Roy Wren, Robert Wren (Lester) and James Wren (Diane); three sisters-in- law: Ivory Pearl Wren, Evie Pearl Wren and Clara Veasey; two God-children: R.J. Allen and Shalunda Eli and a host of nieces and nephews, extended family and dear friends.
“Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” (2 Timothy 4:8)
