FROM EVEREST TO BLACKPOOL “I photographed the silence on Everest. It is no longer there.”
Accompanying and photographing Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay on Mount Everest in 1953 was for Alfred Gregory, just the beginning of an of an extraordinary life as a photographer. Everest, Africa and many other wonderful places including Blackpool in the 60s, Gregory produced a mix of stunning black and white and colour images capturing not only a moment frozen in time but a sense of spirit superb in their clarity and character, and familiar to millions throughout the world.
