Editor’s Letter From the time a woman gets out of the bed in the morning until she closes her eyes at night, she is typically thinking about someone else in her life that she has to support. Her duality of roles becomes so habitual and ingrained that she may see it as her job to help those for whom she loves and has a sense of responsibility. In this spirit, this issue was crafted, highlighting the mindset of dedicated, inspirational women in varying roles. Of those underscored, Lindsey Stirling is the youngest, yet she still feels a sense of responsibility to mentor and support other women in their entertainment career aspirations. Even after her son was tragically taken from her due to gun violence, Pati Poblete maintained such as sense of responsibility for doing and creating something positive for others that she literally used scraps to inspire art. While anticipating the birth of her first child, former Fox News host Diana Falzone has made it her current life’s work to support and encourage other women who suffer infertility due to conditions such as endometrioses. Meanwhile, the extraordinary talents of Emmy Awardwinning illustrator Loryn Brantz reminds others how to treat the modern woman. Other women are literally seeking their wins in

Quick and Easy Workouts for Moms-to-Be
How to strengthen your body for labor and stay strong after By Andrea Speir When you are a momma to be, and your body is busy building your little bean, the last thing you want to do is kickstart an intense new workout routine. That being said, there are gentle Pilates style exercises that you can begin at any stage of your pregnancy and practice for the entirety of your journey to motherhood. These moves will strengthen your body for labor and help you maintain a strong physique both during and after your pregnancy. Beginning with these at-home moves can help lead into longer Pilates routines once you are ready and able!
Move 1: Seated Half Roll Down 10x Action:
1. Sit with knees bent and hip distance apart. 2. Hold on behind thighs. 3. Round back until arms are straight. 4. Bend elbows and round back forward. Tips: As you round back, think about hugging your baby gently with your abdominals. Only round back as far as you can without your back arching. Why this is important: Keeping the abdominals strong is so important because you need them to push during labor! Staying safe with your core strengthening practice is also key because you don’t want to put any undue strain on these already tight muscles. Changing your practice from a deep engagement to a gentle hug lets you not only engage safely and 16

rely more on your pelvic floor, but also lets you give your baby that bonding moment that connects you both!
Move 2: Tricep Dips 20x Action:
1. Place hands on the mat behind your booty about shoulder distance apart (fingertips point toward body). 2. Lift hips toward ceiling. 3. Keep hips high and bend and straight elbows. Tips: Think about hugging a beach ball between your elbows to keep your arms properly aligned to strengthen and work those triceps! Why this is important: Beyond the fact that our arms are one of the things we can really keep chiseled and in check (a valid enough reason in itself), we need our arms and postural muscles to be strong once that little love bug joins your life! You will be carrying that little baby everywhere, AND carrying that gear that is not light (car seat, stroller base, diaper bag). Having that upper body strength is something you will thank yourself later for. Adding the bend and straighten element in this position allows you to do this exercise throughout your entire pregnancy and is great for a bit of circulation as well.

ow you use your money is a reflection of your thoughts and emotions. When your thoughts and emotions are unbalanced or unhealthy, this will show up as unbalanced spending, addictive behavior or irrational decision making. How Does This Work? If you have an emotional issue or a negative thought form, and you don’t know to resolve it, money will often be used to “paper over” the issue until it goes into your subconscious mind - or you are not thinking or feeling it any more. example of this could be that you’re unhappy with your current job or salary. You may be technically making enough money to make ends meet and to enjoy your free time, but this unsatisfied thinking makes you feel “off.” You want to feel better at a given moment in time, so you buy yourself a “treat.” There is nothing wrong with doing this as long as the intentions are clear. If you buy yourself a treat all of the time instead of fixing the negative emotion, you will get into the habit of buying things all of the time. It may get to the point that you are not even enjoying the things

take anything too personally because not everyone will know what to say. You may lose a lot of people, but you will also make new friends. You have to navigate your emotions and be kind to yourself.” She explained the guilt she would feel when she smiled, when she went to social events, when she tried to spend time with friends, and she emphasized how important it is to allow yourself those moments of joy, even when you have experienced heartache. It is okay to feel happy, sad, frustrated and angry. She said you are justified in whatever feelings are mustered in the wake of loss, and you owe it to yourself to respect them. Learn more about Pati and her experience in her book, “A Better Place: A Memoir of Peace in the Face of Tragedy.” The proceeds from the book will go to the Robby Poblete Foundation.

nthony Bourdain (celebrity chef), Stephanie Adams (model and Playmate), Jon Paul Steuer (“Star Trek”), and Kate Spade (fashion designer) are among the high-profile suicides of 2018. They each had fame and fortune during their careers, yet that wasn’t enough to quell the despair or depression that likely triggered their tragic end. Sometimes suicide appears to happen out of the blue, suddenly, and without any apparent signs. According to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention on average, there are 123 suicides per day, and men die from suicide 3.5 times more than women. Suicide is the 10th cause of death in the US overall, but it is the third cause of death among 15- to 24-yearolds and fourth cause of death among 25- to 44-year-olds. Therefore, it is something we need to take very seriously. We cannot really know what happens in the mind of a person that actually takes his/her life, but we may be able to

gather information from those who have attempted to commit suicide, but failed, or by family members and friends of those who have committed suicide. We know that some things that have caused suicidal attempts are: • Depression, psychosis, or anxiety (these can be chronic or episodic) • A significant loss, such as a breakup, death of a close family member or spouse, or even the loss of a job (in the case of romantic rejection, our brain goes into panic mode and it may trigger rage and violence that can turn towards oneself, leading to desperation and suicidal attempt) • Loneliness: emotional disconnection from others, feeling abandoned, unimportant, insignificant, rejected by others • An illness that is life changing or the use of medication that produces mood change • Being exposed to suicidal behaviors or thoughts of significant others such as friends or celebrities.

Lindsey Stirling Making Much More Than Music
Her journey from music virtuoso to Broadway, books and dance By Laurianna Cull
T
he world got its first glimpse of Lindsey Stirling back in 2010 when she first appeared on the hit show “America’s Got Talent.” Many thought they wouldn’t see her again after TV judge Sharon Osbourne made a few harsh comments saying, “The problem with you (Stirling) is, you need to be in a group. You need a singer. You need to find a group of people to work with, and I don’t think what you’re doing right now is enough to fill a theatre.” Luckily, Osbourne’s comments couldn’t have been further from the truth. Since then, Stirling has become a YouTube sensation with nearly 2 billion views on her channel from those watching her play solo violin or musical collaborations. She has also released several chart-topping albums and singles, written an autobiography, partnered with huge artists like John Legend, and placed second on “Dancing with the Stars.” In addition, she has several new creative projects in the works, including a comic book series. And contrary to what was said on AGT, Stirling has been selling out huge venues all over the world for years.

Skellig Michael Island, Ireland Known by “Star Wars” fans as Ahch-To, the lost planet where Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), made his return to the “Star Wars” franchise at the end of “The Force Awakens,” this island is stunning and rich with history. Similar to its portrayal in the film, where the island was the home to an ancient religion and the Jedi temple, the island once was a home to Irish monks who built temples and lived out their days in peace and solitude. Due to its history, the sacred island is protected and, therefore, still maintains the stone stairs and structures seen in the films. It is available for tours for those who wish to feel the force of all the beauty the island has to offer.
