Fahion EDITOR’S LETTER

I had a vision to create a groundbreaking, inspiring, fashion-forecasting edition of Hers magazine that rivaled current fashion publications. I knew this was no small feat, but an extraordinary team made it easier by bringing together a collective of like-minded, thought-provoking leaders and style-makers from all over the world.

The past few months have been serendipitous, and at times, a little overwhelming, but not once did I want to quit. One of the most inspiring moments was interviewing acclaimed designer Mimi Plange – one of the warmest people I have ever met with an eclectic style and humor.

Mimi provides readers with a raw, real (her)story that

encapsulates the essence of the magazine.

In a world full of replication, we wanted to do something unique. We wanted to create an issue that’s entertaining, informative, and at times contrary, but above all, useful. Inside, you’ll find a concoction of news, features and columns on fashion-related topics in this premiere October 2018 Fashion & Beauty Edition.

Fashion, no matter how chic, is incomplete until you make it your own — be it with a trusty wrap dress reminiscent of Dianne Von Furstenburg or a signature strand of pearls. Something I’ve learned after all these years in the industry and being raised by some fashionforward women, is that no two women wear any piece, say, a little black dress (LBD) dress, in quite the same way. That’s the beauty of what happens when a garment enters real-life from a glossy magazine page.

Since this is the inaugural fashion and beauty edition, we wanted the stories behind the story to inspire you, but also to provide the how-to’s and resources so that your own vision, goals and dreams would become attainable. This magazine is for you, the women who challenge the status quo and again ask ‘why?’

Michelle Lynch Celebrity stylist & fashion producer Michelle Lynch has operated her successful entertainment company, Poshe Productions, for more than 18 years. Her extensive celebrity client list includes the likes of Jessica Simpson, Usher, Ashley Tisdale, Martha Stewart, P. Diddy, and Tommy Hilfiger. Michelle has dressed women for major events from inaugurations to mayor’s balls, as well as film & television productions for HBO, MTV, ABC and HGTV. As an event producer, Michelle has executed fashion campaigns, photo shoots, bridal tours and fashion shows for IBM, Coca Cola, Porsche & Macy’s.

As the new creative director for Hers magazine, Michelle is looking forward to making a strong fashion statement with editorial shoots, celebrity interviews and giving emerging designers a platform to excel in the industry.

Selena Hulett Even as a child, Selena has always been a fashionista. Her love for fashion has brought her countless hours of working in high-end retail stores, costuming for independent films, personal consulting, and styling for busy professionals. Her ability to create amazing clothing styles economically or even free has made her 8

popular with the budget-conscious. Be it an exclusive couture piece, a custom blazer or a pair of consignment pumps, Selena wants her clients to always look and feel their best. Most of all, she wants them to know that one does not have to break the bank to create a fabulous wardrobe! As owner of ReMixed Image Consulting, her goal is to educate through workshops, seminars, and even shopping trips. Selena also wants to enhance her clients’ wardrobe by using key pieces to create multiple looks. Even if you never work with her personally, she seeks to inspire people through ReMixed online tips, blogs, vlogs and photos.

Sergio Cervantes Sergio resides in Atlanta, Georgia, and has always had a strong sense of fashion. He is the Hers fashion team’s social media strategist who has a keen eye for all things on the runway, including self-made, emerging designers and models on the rise.

Whether it’s being behind the scenes for production or on set for photo shoots, he knows how to capture a moment and make a great story through the eyes of a fashion lover. Sergio coordinates all the behind the scenes moments for Hers and the Georgia Bridal Tour, which is a 16-city tour that showcases all the latest trends for brides and grooms.

e see amazing women with great style daily. We see them at the train station, the airport, the grocery store, the work place and I love the spin they take on fashion. With there being so many outlets that serve as fashion tutorials these days, there’s no reason to ever look bad.

Women who tend to step outside the box with a bold fashion statement usually set the pace as our “girl on trend.” They’re not afraid to take fashion risks and wear what’s fashionably artistic at the moment — whether it’s white boots or pink hair, the sky’s the limit for our trendsetters!

Editor’s Letter Welcome to the start of something flashy or should I say, fashy.

In our very first exclusive fashion and beauty edition, we feature the international beauty of Miss St. Lucia, who had never competed in a pageant until January 2018 but is now readying herself to compete in the 2018 Miss Universe pageant in December. She is among the incredible women we feature in this issue who work in and around fashion or beauty.

Unique to this issue are our “Herfluencers,” who influence women’s beauty choices in the areas of clothing, hair, cosmetics, skin care or accessories. We even selected beauty entrepreneurs who we believe offer notable products or services.

What three things prohibit women from possibly looking their best? We say: money, mindset or a malady.

Money: Readers should be inspired by stories of those like “Resale Royalty” star Sue McCarthy, who grew up in poverty but has used fashion as a means to enrich her life and those who likewise seek to enrich theirs. Her multi-million dollar “fashion flipping” empire has inspired and allowed women to look like royalty for less.

Mindset: Hailing, not from fashion but real estate, Page Turner, star of “Flip or Flop Nashville,” shares her transformation after working with a professional stylist. Her idea of fashion prior to having her closet remixed was more for function rather than fun.

Malady: Given that this is breast cancer awareness month, we feature the executive director of Susan G. Comen Greater Atlanta, Catie Stone, and her unrelenting efforts to support women in raising funds for cancer research and awareness. As a breast cancer survivor, she knows how sickness impacts the body and self-esteem. Thus, from pink tutus to knitted hats, she makes sure that survivors’ hope is also fashionable.

Ultimately, the Jeaniuses we feature leave us with a challenge: How much should we (women) really be focused on our outer appearance? These five genius women want to change the dialogue such that fashion consciousness is not lost, but it also does not define our existence.
