Muslim woman bitten by deadly snake MIDDLE EAST (ANS -- January 3, 2017) - Hajira* was raised in a prominent, loving, Muslim family in the Middle East. Her father is one of the top religious authorities of the state, an enforcer of Sharia law. “We all were strict in Sharia law and the religious practices,” Hajira told Bibles4Mideast. Her brother commanded a militant group “protecting” Islam and taking immediate action against its enemies. He is also trained as a sharp shooter. One evening her family, along with their cooks, drivers and servants, went out to the desert to enjoy an evening bonfire under the moonlight. It was an annual tradition, and this year, they set up camp near some rocky hills. After dinner she went for a short walk through the desert with her brothers and sisters. Her father and mothers remained near the bonfire with the servants. “While we were walking, I knew something bite my
leg,” she recounts. “We saw a big snake moving fast after biting me.” It seems the snake was partially covered with sand, and in the darkness she inadvertently stepped on it. “My brother took his revolver and shot the snake at once and killed it,” she told Bibles4Mideast. It was a Sahara Horned Viper, a highly poisonous snake. Within seconds Hajira became unconscious and they rushed her to the hospital. She lapsed into a coma that lasted four days. When she finally woke up she was unable to move and felt severe pain. “I heard doctors discussing renal failure and increasing fibrinolysis. Nobody thought I would live.” Listening to the doctors, Hajira began to lose hope and tried to prepare herself for death. “I turned my face to the wall and wept. I did not want others to see my tears. I prayed to God for a painless death.” Then she drifted off to sleep.

PUNJAB PROVINCE, PAKISTAN - Asia Bibi, the Pakistani Christian mother-of-five who was found guilty in 2010 of blasphemy for standing up for Jesus, and sentenced to death, has spent another lonely Christmas on Death Row. She was sentenced to death after co-workers had accused her of insulting the Muslim prophet Muhammad, a charge she has always denied. So, while millions of Christians around the world have been enjoying Christmas Day fellowship, food and presents, Ms. Bibi was once again suffered in solitary confinement in an 8-by-10-foot cell without windows, and even had to cook her own Christmas meal because of fears that others may try to poison her food.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- At thirteen, Anni Zhang is known as “China’s youngest prisoner of conscience.” When she was ten, Anni was kidnapped out of her elementary school, detained overnight, denied the right to go to school and put under house arrest with her father. On Sunday, 13-year-old Zhang, rescued from China, was living a dream come true – she performed piano in Carnegie Hall. What should have been a completely joyous occasion, however was marred. Her father, veteran activist Zhang Lin, was not able to attend because the Chinese government refused to issue him a passport. Reggie Littlejohn, president of Women’s Rights Without Frontiers (www. womensrightswithoutfrontiers.org) played a key role in bringing Anni to the United States from China, where she and her father were under house arrest after she had been detained and denied the right to go to school. As a child, I learned to pray by reciting bedtime prayers like, “Now I lay me down to sleep” and the classic mealtime prayer that begins with, “God is great, God is good”. As I got a little older I began tacking a few things onto the end of my bedtime prayer and sometimes drifted off to sleep before or after I had finished my list. As I learned more about prayer, I prayed with more originality. Sometimes I sang my prayers and some of my prayers turned into songs. I think it’s good to be creative. There are lots of ways to pray. Some prayers I pray are still pretty standard, depending on the occasion, but throughout my day when I have the liberty, I like to talk to God at length about the things that are on my mind. A lot of my prayers are an on going dialog with God. At times, I might be focused on something in particular that someone has asked

me to pray for. Whenever the opportunity presents itself, I will dwell on that as much as possible. Other times, I feel compelled to pray for my family or personal concerns. I try to make it a point to begin my prayers with thanks and praise. It’s always good to remind ourselves of the goodness of God as we come before Him. As we speak words about the great things He has done in the past and His extraordinary qualities that enable Him to be the mighty God and the eternal Father, our faith is increased and His power is released. Recently, I was in a time of prayer. I was past the thanks and praise part of praying and into making my requests known to God, according to Philippians 4:6, which says we shouldn’t be anxious for any reason, but instead by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make our requests known to God, and by doing so the peace of God that passes all understanding will guard our heart and mind through Christ Jesus. I was in the process of praying for some very practical things to take
place that would make life so much easier for me and my family, when I felt the Spirit of the Lord im pressing something on me. I was suddenly highly conscious of the amount of time I spend praying for my own needs and the needs of others. I was instantly struck with the stark reality that I spend far more time praying for needs than I spend praying for the lost. I felt the Lord challenging me to spend the same amount of time praying for the lost as I spend praying for needs of my own and others. Equal time. Luke 19:10 states a sobering point. Jesus came to this world to seek and save the lost. That was His singular vision and purpose. He didn’t come to accumulate wealth or build an amazing home or even have a wife and kids. He came to seek and save the lost. Everything He did on earth advanced His purpose. He lived His life strategically in order to accomplish the will of God. He put the kingdom of God and His righteousness first as He lived His life on earth. As I contemplated what Continuation on Page: 4

Dear Reverend, Every so often when I go to Church, the Pastor says to the congregation, “Those who wish to be baptized in the Holy Ghost, please come up here so I can pray for you.” I find this extremely annoying and uncomfortable. On these occasions, it takes all my willpower to remain seated until it’s over. What would my neighbors and relations think if I began to babble and jump around, laughing and acting like it was the greatest thing that ever happened? Personally, I refuse to let someone lay hands on me to accept such nonsense. Dominic
Dear Dominic. I can’t help but think of a silly song that some of my friends sing. The name of the song is “Dominic the Donkey!” As you know, a donkey is a very stubborn beast! The Holy Spirit recently showed me (yes – I am baptized in the Holy Spirit) that resisting the Holy Spirit will drive a person into sin. In such a state of heart and mind, everything takes on a new perspective and the things that are pressing us for attention are put in their proper place of priority. By choosing to focus at least as much time on the lost as we focus on our selves, we are no longer
self centered or abnormally absorbed with our own issues. In the past week or so I have seen how God is enlarging my vision as I pray for the lost. He is giving me glimpses of various kinds of lostness. He is taking my mind on trips around the world to different places where there are types of darkness I have never perceived. He has impressed on me to speak to those areas of darkness and to command His light to penetrate and His power to be released so that

If that wasn’t bad enough, Asia’s family has received death threats, and has been forced to go into hiding. Ashiq, her husband, stated that he was even afraid to let their children go outside. He also expressed concern about how his wife would be kept safe should she ever be released. “No one will let her live,” he said. “The mullahs are saying they will kill her when she comes out.” However, her family has declined to leave the country while she remained in prison, even though Italy, France, and Spain have all offered to grant her and her family asylum in the
event of her release. To make matters worse for Asia, two prominent Pakistani leaders, Salmaan Taseer, the then governor of Punjab, and Shahbaz Bhatti, the only Christian in the Pakistani cabinet, were both murdered for supporting her and speaking out against the country’s controversial blasphemy law, which many believe is being misused to settle scores. Asia was supposed to find out in October at a “final appeal” hearing at Pakistan’s Supreme Court whether or not she would be executed, but that decision was delayed indef initely after Justice Iqbal

Another revelation I have had for the past year or so is that I should spend time in prayer deliberately asking that the Holy Spirit would be poured out on all flesh according to Joel 2:28. The body of Christ— the Church—who is supposed to also be the Bride of Christ is so disjointed and immature. Jesus is going to return for a Bride who is ready for the wedding. A Bride without spot or blemish. We are
so far from that! If Jesus came to earth with a single purpose to seek and save the lost—shouldn’t His Bride share that same vision? group’s website. “Sadly that position is even held by much of the Judiciary (officials) who have also been blinded by the hate agenda promulgated through media and the education system in Pakistan.” According to media reports, less than two percent of Pakistanis identify as Christians, and the country remains among the worst persecutors of Christians, ranking sixth on Open Doors USA’s 2015 World Watch List. (North Korea is the worst in this list of shame). Armstrong said that he stayed one night in a “hell-hotel” and added, “That’s okay, for when I first went on the mission field, I slept in a tent.” He told me that the “hell-hotel” had no amenities -- no electricity, no Internet, no heat in the freezing weather, and no toilet paper, “but you were expected to bring your own.” He went on to say, “By the way, the importance was not in that order. I must confess, I ‘stole’ from poor refugees! Let me explain what I mean. When a guest arrives in their home, they are served a cup of hot tea. On the table is a box of facial tissues (for napkins). VIET NAM MOUNTAIN BOY MEETS JESUS
(SEAR-ST Petersburg, FL) Phuoc grew up in the Nam Giang mountains in Viet-Nam, about a 2 hour drive outside of Da Nang city. His father was mountain Vietnamese, and his mother was tribal, Kha Tu. Phuoc’s father left the family when Phuoc was very small. Phuoc grew up with his mother and older brother and sister, farming in the mountains. The family was very poor. When Phuoc was about 12 years old, (6 years ago), he had contact with the mission SEAR, South-East Asian Relief, for the first time. The government of Viet-Nam allowed SEAR to get up into the mountains in order to provide school scholarships to the poorest kids in the Nam Giang area. Mr. Rex, SEAR Director of Ministry, and SEAR Viet-Nam christian staff were allowed to meet about 20 children, needing financial aid to remain in school.

Before leaving Tilaka’s hut, Pastor Dhevan invited Tilaka to the church he was leading. Pastor Dhevan’s warm welcome excited Tilaka so much that she walked to church the very next Sunday, even though it was some distance from her hut. She joined in among the believers at the worship service as they praised Jesus for His love and mercy. Seeing Tilaka’s need, the church provided her with food. Thereafter, Tilaka started walking to the church every day, receiving food and growing in her knowledge and love of Jesus. Gradually, her leg grew stronger, as did her troubled mind. Tilaka’s heart stirred with hope and love for her newfound Savior. As her mind cleared, her heart overflowed with thanksgiving to God all throughout the day. “Once I was insane,” Tilaka shared. “Jesus touched me and made me normal. He takes care of my day.” Tilaka discovered a God who promises to never leave her nor forsake her and a community of people who love her and provide for her in Jesus’ name. America is Christian because we freely choose to be, as individuals. If Israel and Jerusalem are overrun by Muslims, her citizens will no longer have any religious freedom to choose Judaism, which the vast majority now choose as individuals. Moses is the very basis of Israel’s core belief in freedom from slavery, is he not? Kerry wants slavery, not Moses.
Israel can only have peace by rejecting Islamic slavery within its own borders. 4) If there is a two state solution, Palestine will be Muslim, not democratic. That means its people will not be free to choose Christianity or Judaism, only Islam. Because they will reject religious freedom first, and adopt a Muslim Constitution (as Egypt’s Morsi did, punishing the Coptics), Palestine will not be democratic. Sojourners who pretend Christians will have more freedom in a Palestinian state than they currently have in Israel are deluded and deny the world’s history of Islamic totalitarian conquest. 5) Kerry lectures America today, not just Israel, that America should end democracy and religious freedom. His own hatred of democracy and religious freedom betrays Kerry as a domestic enemy of the Constitution, and he should be ashamed. The Song of Mary “And Mary said: My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.” Several years ago, I was a lay leader for a women’s threeday Christian retreat called Walk to Emmaus. In the early days of these “Walks” the lay leader had more flexibility in choosing a scriptural theme for the retreat and mine was Luke 1:46 the first line of Mary’s Song otherwise known as the “Magnificat”. It seemed to be the ideal theme as there were nearly 50 women on that three day “Walk” looking for a renewed relationship with Jesus.
As I prepared my final message to them, I wanted to offer a deeper look at the woman who made it all possible because she agreed to become the mother of God. Even though she was obedient to what the Angel was saying to her, she was probably also very aware of the challenges she would be facing and the persecution she would experience. A Jewish teenager, engaged to be married to a man named Joseph, becoming pregnant out of wedlock and Joseph was not the father. Based on the strict moral standards of that day she must have en-
dured the looks, the gossip, the subtle rejection that was most likely all around her. Under Jewish law she could have even been stoned for this crime but God had it under control as He approached her betrothed husband Joseph in a dream where he learned how special this pregnancy was and stood by Mary from then on. Mary later shared with her relative Elizabeth the wonder and excitement of being pregnant with the Son of God now known as Mary’s Song even with all the rejection and criticism going on around her. In the U.S. women are not condemned to death if pregnant and not married and even have opportunities to make choices over the child in the womb without punishment or persecution. Some choices can be more devastating than others. Not only for the child but for the parents. In previous articles, I shared about some of the common snares I address in counseling sessions but there was one I wanted to cover in an article by itself. I would ask the client if they had an abortion or if they assisted in helping someone get an abortion. I asked that question with the intent of them receiving God’s forgiveness. I do not judge and the question is asked the same way I would ask with other snares with compassion and confidentiality. But, I want to tell you right now. Every time someone
did admit to having or being part of an abortion, she/he would completely break down in the worst grief I have ever seen. The burden of that choice had haunted them their whole life even if she or he was now their 60’s. The grief was completely inconsolable until they could go before the Lord in prayer and ask for forgiveness and could forgive themselves. I continue to stress this because the choices a person makes always comes with consequences or reap benefits they do not foresee. The consequences of this one choice eventually brought grief and guilt, sometimes long buried and seemed to hound them their whole life. Even though some may say they had good reasons and at the time they may believe it. But consider this, Mary chose to obey her God and allowed herself to become pregnant out of wedlock knowing Joseph would not be the biological fa-
ther. They were not rich, their baby was born in a cave among corralled animals, they were warned to leave Bethlehem soon after Jesus was born because of death threats and headed for an unknown country, Egypt. On the other hand, they were protected by God, who sent financial help through three Magi, and ultimately they lived a quiet life as a family in Nazareth until God’s son Jesus was ready for his ministry. Mary made her choices. Even if someone did not make the same choice as Mary I want to remind them that God still loves them and wants to see them healed and free from whatever pain of guilt and regret they may be experiencing. MEDELLIN, COLOMBIA (ANS -- January 3, 2017) -- One of the few survivors of a crash involving a Brazilian soccer team’s charter flight to Medellin was holding his Bible and reading Psalm 63 at the time of the crash. Helio Neto, 31, was one of six survivors of the crash, which claimed the lives of 71 people, including many players and staff from the Chapecoense team from southern Brazil, one of Brazil’s top teams. Neto is a strong Christian who carries his Bible everywhere. “Its the first thing he takes when he travels,” his wife Simone told the Daily Mail. His tattered Bible also survived the crash and was retrieved by Simone. The British Aerospace 146 short-haul plane, operated by a charter airline named LaMia, declared an emergency and lost radar contact just before 10pm on
November 28th. Authorities discovered the plane had run out of fuel as it approached the outskirts of Medellin. Story of Columbine Student, Rachel Joy Scott LOS ANGELES, CA (ANS – January 4, 2016)– I’m Not Ashamed, the beloved film that tells the heroic story of Rachel Joy Scott, the first victim at Columbine High School, will be available on, Blu-ray™ combo pack, DVD and On Demand, on January 24th, and Digital HD on January 10th 2017. The film, based on Scott’s journals, tells the story of a teen-aged girl who struggled with family issues, peer pressure, boys, and mild depression. Deeper though, is the story of a girl who struggled to live out her faith in God, to take it from an internal belief system to a daily practice that was reflected in the way she treated others. Scott was known among the halls of Columbine for being a Christian and for treating others with kindness. The film follows
Scott through her struggles, as she works to discover herself and to spread kindness to those around her to the ultimate end of her life when she refused to renounce her faith in God. “It was an honor to make a film about Rachel’s amazing life,” stated Director Brian Baugh. “I’m very thankful to the cast and crew who were so passionate and devoted to the great responsibility of telling her story. We were fortunate to have the freedom from Rachel’s family to not have to sugarcoat things and to be real about her ups and downs. The film sends the hopeful message, that no matter what you’ve been through, that your compassion for others can make a powerful impact in this world.” “As Rachel’s mother, I am grateful that the life of my daughter was portrayed in an authentic way through
