India (MNN) — The latest report from the United States Department of State says human trafficking in India spiked at least 25 percent last year. Every hour, four women and girls enter prostitution in India — three of them against their will.

There are a few contributing factors to the dramatic increase in India’s human trafficking tragedy in 2016. Some of the factors include the 2015 earthquake in neighboring Nepal creating unstable situations, and traffickers growing more technologically advanced in their methods and document forgeries. Much of the trafficking that comes to India funnels from Nepal and Bangladesh to the major cities.

Raju Sharma with Christian Aid Mission shares further sobering statistics:

“The current rate that we have in India, if this continues, by 2025 one out of every five Indian girl children will be a child prostitute…. Girls aged as young as 10 are trafficked,

and mostly because of economic reasons.”

He goes on to explain a value trend in India that contributes to human trafficking. “Because of the belief system, the girls are..

not considered equal to men. They are more prone to the [trafficking] risk.

So in a family, if a girl is born, it’s not considered a joy. It’s like a disgrace; it’s like a burden. The families [who] are poor…if they were hoping for boys and end up with more girls, they would like to get them rid of, because they can’t survive, they can’t feed the family. So these predators who are lurking around in the neighborhood offer them a price, and that’s how the girl gets sold out.”

According to Havocscope, the average price to sell a child into human trafficking in India is $45 USD. To sell a girl child specifically into human trafficking, it only takes $24 USD. Comparatively, if you were to sell a buffalo in India, it would be about $350 USD. The Church Making a Difference. With human trafficking in India on the rise, this is exactly where the Body of Christ needs to step in — and many within the Church already are.

Christian Aid’s ministry partners work to rehabilitate girls and women who have been rescued from sexual slavery. And even in the midst of deep pain and brokenness, God is moving. “Like recently, they started a small prayer group…. And through the

small prayer group, there were about four of these girls who came to Christ.

They were healed from brokenness and hurt and abuse and especially anger.

They would react very fast and they would get angry, and through that prayer encounter, God delivered them and they were transformed.”

Currently, Sharma says there are about 20 girls who need help to enter their ministry partner’s care center. Please pray that God would protect them, and that they would know they are worthy of love in Christ.

Sharma says Christian Aid also wants to go to the root of the problem that makes children and families more at-risk to trafficking. “Poverty is one of them, but how do we handle poverty? So we are now assisting groups in neighborhoods that we call slums. There, where the children who don’t have access to education, [they] are the ones who are higher at risk.

“We are encouraging groups and assisting them so they would start after-school [programs] orschool for these children.”

But it doesn’t stop there.

“If a girl child is educated, basically we will educate the entire family. The problem in India is the women who are not educated. We feel if a girl or mother is educated, they will educate the rest of the

CHARLOTTE, N.C., -With thousands of Christians killed every year, and millions facing other forms of brutal persecution, this is a dangerous time for Christians -- simply because of their faith.

Many living comfortably in the United States may be unaware of the fact that Christians are now the most persecuted religious group in the world, according to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA).

BGEA cites Open Doors which identified 2016 as the worst year for the persecution of Christians since it began tracking the issue 25 years ago, and reports about 215 million Christians experience “high, very high or extreme persecution” in the 50 countries where it is most difficult to be a Christian.

Now, to help raise global awareness about the plight of persecuted Christians and show solidarity with those who suffer because of their faith, Franklin Graham and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association will host the first-ever World Summit in Defense of Persecuted Christians. The conference will be held May 10 – 13 in Washington, and will bring together more than 600 participants from 130 countries.

seems to be exempt from the public enforcement of censorship and blasphemy accusations. Politicians who even mention changing the blasphemy law, or at the very least, re-examining it, are also met with hostility, attacks, and at times death.

Yet, Christians in Pakistan face a potential life of imprisonment or a death sentence every day. Their religious views alone, along with many other religious minorities, are enough to condemn them of blasphemy—and that’s before any evangelism. Every day Christians count the costs of following Jesus in Pakistan.

Finally, pray for them to have the courage and bravery needed to share the Gospel. *Pakistan is list-

ed at number four on Open Doors USA’s World Watch List (WWL). The WWL is a ranking of the 50 countries where Christian persecution is most severe.

WASHINGTON, /Christian Newswire/ -- Operation Rescue is ardently urging House Speaker Paul Ryan to publicly announce that there will be a provision for completely defunding Planned Parenthood in the next Continuing Resolution.

In a letter faxed to Speaker Ryan yesterday, Operation Rescue President Troy Newman reminds Ryan of promises made by he and President Donald J. Trump to defund America’s largest abortion provider.

“On behalf of the majority of Americans that oppose the tax funding of Planned Parenthood due to their heavy involvement in the morally reprehensible business of abortion, I

urge you to keep your promise to the American people,” Newman stated.

Newman added urgency to his plea, noting that Operation Rescue has documented 42 medical emergencies at Planned Parenthood abortion facilities since January 2016, that have required ambulance transport of patients to hospitals for treatment that Planned Parenthood was not equipped to provide.

“It is important to note that our list is not comprehensive. The actual number of women injured at Planned Parenthood abortion facilities is expected to be much higher,” said Newman.

He spoke to Ryan about the tragic death of Cree

Erwin-Sheppard, who died due to a botched first-trimester abortion she received at Planned Parenthood in Kalamazoo, Michigan, last year.

“An autopsy revealed that. . . Cree received a 4 cm full tissue perforation of her uterus, which caused internal bleeding,” Newman wrote. “She was sent home without having been treated or informed of this life-threatening injury. Cree’s brother, Tyler Sheppard, has since become involved in trying to expose the truth about the lack of skill and care Cree received at Planned Parenthood.”

Newman also mentioned the death of Tonya Reaves, who succumbed to a fatal abortion she received at a Chicago-area Planned Parenthood abortion facility in 2012.

“It is simply unconscionable for Federal tax money to continue to go to this organization that has caused so much human suffering and loss of life in violation of the moral consciences of the majority of U.S. citizens - not to mention the criminal conduct Planned Parenthood is accused of committing,” said Newman.

Earlier this year, Planned Parenthood Federation of America and five of its affiliates were referred to the Department of Justice for criminal investigation and prosecution by House and Senate panels after their investigations revealed Planned Parenthood had illegally participated in the sale of aborted baby remains for profit.

“Planned Parenthood must be defunded in the next Continuing Resolu-

It was a long time before I really understood the importance of having true, guiding principles to live by. I had no real grasp of the fact that ‘certain actions created certain results.’ I had a lot of hopes and expectations, but wasn’t on a path that led to ‘life, prosperity, and hon-

It’s easy to see that happiness and love were on my mind. I had the desire for a ‘good life’…I just lacked the willingness to follow what had been presented to me consistently throughout my life. I thought I had to blaze my own trail.

I can look back now and see the turning point so clearly. It’s not like a big bright light suddenly appeared and I knew what to do. I had searched hard… and it seems cliché to say, ‘in all the wrong places’, but it’s the truth. Over the past several weeks my husband and I have included in our morning prayer time a daily devotional written

I was pretty sure I could do it on my own. I never asked for advice and I hardly ever followed the advice that anyone might have tried to give me. Are you relating to any of this?

No wonder I didn’t give the Word of God the place of priority it should have had in my plans as a young adult. The idea of studying the Bible seemed a lot like ‘reading the directions’… and I just didn’t think I needed to do that. I was convinced that righteousness was ‘bondage’, and I wanted to be ‘free’. Wow, what a mixed up philosophy. I can see it now—but I sure couldn’t then.

I live much differently these days. Not that I’ve got it all put together, even now. But, I think in general, I have much more respect for the ‘results’ that certain actions, most certainly create. I have a much higher regard for the importance of investing my time in the pursuit words, He ‘pitched His tent among us’ just as He did at Mount Sinai. What does this mean?” he asked.

“It means that every day of our lives, we can dwell in His presence.” I replied.

“Yes,” he said. “It means you can dwell in the glory of God every day of your life. The mountaintop has come down to the valley. What that means is that even in the lowest places of your life, you can still dwell on the heights. And no matter where you are, even in the darkest valley, you can still dwell in the glory of the mountaintop.”

“How?” I asked. “By entering into the Tabernacle, by entering into communion with Him, in prayer, in worship, in just dwelling with Him, every day, deep

of God—who is the epitome of righteousness and love.

I’ve learned that there are two core qualities that lead to success in this life.

Those qualities are righteousness and love. If God is the source of righteousness and love—then I need to pursue God to develop the qualities that will lead to a happy life. An ‘open mind’ was what I thought I had when I was younger.

I was open to everything but God. Until I became open to God, things just kept going wrong for me.

When I became open to God…things started going right.

Declaration: I will find new strength by purposely opening my mind to God. I will find happiness by pursuing love and righteousness…with God as my source. I will read the directions given in the Bible, and follow them.

Christians in Venezuela are asking For Prayer

Venezuela (MNN) — In a move that usurped the power of the opposition-led National Assembly, Venezuela’s Supreme Court sparked protests across the nation on March 30th.

And, there are a lot of people who are pro-government, so they have come out on the streets wearing

And what’s President Maduro’s response? According to the Washington Post, it’s to press down on opponents. Most notably, opposition leader Henrique Capriles has been banned from running for office. Numerous arrests have been made during the protests, and demonstrators have been hit with tear gas, rubber bullets,

Shantz says, “On the ground, the situation there is very dire. And Venezuela has also seen an increase like never before of violent crime and poverty.

Their inflation rate is currently at 679 percent, and they expect that by 2018, if things continue the way they are, that inflation will be up around 2,000 percent.”

So the question is, where does the Church fit in to all of this?

Shantz describes a situation where the Church can act as a hub of grace. Even though there is little to go around, this body has come together to do what they can in their communities. He tells us the story of one of their contacts, a pastor, who visited recently.

“His church, every Sunday afternoon, the congregation brings whatever they have — beans and rice — and they cook it all up and they’re feeding children.

children every Sunday because there’s such a shortage of food in the country.”

Because of the shortage of medication, this same pastor had been cutting his blood pressure pills into quarters. When he visited the United States, his blood pressure was extremely high. Fortunately, he was able to get a year’s supply before heading home. His story shows us that in a national crisis, individual lives are impacted.

What’s to be done? This insurmountable crisis can only be solved through prayer, Shantz believes.

And this is how we can get involved with the situation.

“As believers here in North America, we can pray that somehow the political situation in Venezuela comes to a reconciliation so that the country can start meeting the needs of the people, of the poor. And we could pray that somehow Venezuela will get the currency they need to pur-

Hopefully, as the political mess gets sorted out, there can be relief in the economy. Our prayers also must go to support the Church as they do what they can to help.

Encouragement is also a key factor in this situation.

We know that no matter what, the hope of the Gospel cannot be put out.
