Did Jesus Come To Earth To Give Peace?

Luke 12:51-53 KJVS Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division: [52] For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three. [53] The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. -

This has troubled me in the past. Why would Jesus say this? But then the Holy Spirit brought to my remembrance this:

John 12:49 KJVS For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.

Exodus 32:25-29 NIV Moses saw that the people were running wild and that Aaron had let them get out of control and so become a laughingstock to their enemies. [26] So he stood at the entrance to the camp and said, “Whoever is for the Lord, come to me.” And all the Levites rallied to him. [27] Then he said to them, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘Each man strap a sword to his side. Go back and forth through the camp from one end to the other, each killing his brother and friend and neighbor.’” [28] The Levites did as Moses commanded, and that day about three thousand of the people died. [29] Then Moses said, “You have been set apart to the Lord today, for you were against your own sons and brothers, and he has blessed you this day.” -

The first commandment God gave to Moses was, "thou shalt have no other Gods before Him." We all have the ability to choose, God has placed before us life or death, blessings or curses. He has given us the ability to choose for ourselves right from wrong. -

When Adam and Eve ate fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, their eyes were opened. They were made aware of the ability to choose God or choose sin. The same choice plays over and over for the Israelites and the world. Each day we have a choice, will we choose God and life or will we choose sin and death. The wages of sin are death but the gift of God is eternal life! Sin must be paid for, but God's gift is free to those that will receive it. Jesus came and paid the debt of sin so that we could be made free, but only if we choose Him and nothing or no one else.

Joshua 24:15 KJVS And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

-God bless you!!
