brief The project proposed to investigate the nature of urban infill exhibition spaces, and the urban role in the landscape. B

context Fremantle, just south of Perth is rich in history and historical buildings. Once a port to the emerging Swan River colony, the small town has grown to become a mixing pot of history, industry, nightlife and cafe culture.

the building The building begins to look at Fremantle as a network of culture encased in an “industrial skin”. It is a part of Perth, that as a visitor, is a constant journey of surprise - the familiar vs the unexpected. Thus my gallery takes on the form as a moving journey. With elements that may surprise - the contrast between a small confined space, to a high, almost cavernous space. Strong pathways, that connect the old to the new, and that lead you to familiar and unexpected places. ... and points of decisions & cross roads, which take you to different galleries, and spaces. D

MASTERS SERIES.

With the Perth foreshore being currently large field of under used space, the brief asked to create a master plan for the expansive area to become an extension of the city, with the purpose of creating and encouraging city living within the Perth metropolitan area. Working in a group, we created a scheme which works towards altering the grain of the city towards the river, and thus attempting to create a more public forum around Perth’s greatest asset - the Swan River.

MASTERS SERIES.

A new residential programme, where residence can purchase “vertical land” within a fixed facade. Allowing residence to create their own vertical surburbia - a mixed patchwork of people and their own personal dwellings. The freedom to design their own space in accordance to their own needs, a luxury of suburban sprawl - within the fabric of inner city living.

Sophie Giles . A Beach Shack Unbuilt Perth/ A Fifth year project for Advanced Computing, in which we were given a local Architect and one of their chosen unbuilt works, for a proposed Television show.

In many cases I have worked projects from conceptual sketches to working drawings - and have gained an exponential amount of knowledge from this.
