We’re a co-operative
HF Holidays is proud to be a co-operative. We currently have over 46,000 members, all of whom are at the heart of a purposeful business powered by its people and values.
Our story
The HF Holidays story starts with one man. In the late 19th century, country pastor turned social innovator, Thomas Arthur Leonard OBE, sought to improve the lives of factory workers by offering walking holidays as an alternative to the annual trend of spending a week at the seaside. He founded the Co-operative Holiday Association in 1893 before establishing the Holiday Fellowship (HF Holidays) in 1913. On his memorial plaque on Cat Bells in the Lake District, he’s hailed as the “Father of the Open-Air Movement in this Country”.
How we are run
As a co-operative business, everything we do is managed for the benefit of our members. And by giving them a voice and vote they become key to our success. Our not-for-profit ethos means that all surplus is reinvested in the business, especially our 16 characterful country houses. We listen to all opinions, integrating these into our activities as we continue providing enriching holidays that connect like-minded people with a love of the great outdoors.
Join our co-operative
When you become a member, you’ll be rewarded with exclusive benefits; from helping to decide the way things are done to enjoying a wealth of special offers and discounts.
