Materials In order to complete the lesson, the teacher should have: • “The Flame of Peace: An Tale of the Aztecs” by Deborah Nourse Lattimore
Procedures 1.
Read “The Flame of Peace” by Deborah Nourse Lattimore to the class while showing some of the pictures in the book.
• Use eye contact as much as possible. • Use dramatic voice while reading and fluctuations in tone to keep students interested.
2.
After reading the story, ask the following questions and make sure all students have a chance to talk:
• What surprised you about the story? • Do you think this could be true? • How is this similar to other stories you have read? How is it different? • Why do you think ancient cultures have stories like these? What might it explain? • What does this tell us about the Aztec people?
