Background - In 1787 Rabbie Burns visited Kenmore, Birks of Aberfeldy, Dunkeld, Pass of Killiecrankie and Blair Castle, writing a number of poems inspired by the area. Burns Suppers – Are held at the end of January each year - there are a number of excellent Burns Suppers that suit all tastes from very informal affairs such as at Mckays to a locals Burns supper at Killiecrankie, the young farmers Burns Supper (remembering Burns himself was a farmer) to the more elaborate affairs held at Pitlochry Festival Theatre and the Atholl Palace Hotel. Friday 23rd January 7pm Aberfeldy Young Farmer Burns Supper Moness Country Club, Crieff Rd, Aberfeldy, Perthshire PH15 2DY An excellent Burns Supper which sells out every year, we suggest you get your orders in quick! It is organised and run by the Young Famers and addresses are performed by Young Farmers or people within the farming community. There is music and ceilidh dancing after the speeches by the popular local Pete Butters Band. All the food for the Burns Supper is sourced locally with the Haggis coming from the fantastic (not that I am bias!) Macdonald Brother Butchers and the neeps and tatties all grown by local farmers. If you have not been before this is a real MUST. Burns himself would have been proud of it; the address to the Haggis, the immortal memory and a toast to the lassies followed by the reply from one these lovely ladies (always a good laugh)!! Local Ron Greer's superb rendition of Tam O’Shanter (is not to be missed), singing from ‘Schiltrum’ and to finish off the evening a ceilidh by Wayne and Liam Manion and John Cameron. The supper of Haggis, neaps and tatties followed by delicious locally made homemade puddings. Dress is informal and bring your own booze. All for the price of £14 per person.
