Friday 16th January 8.00pm Dick Gaughan Birnam Arts & Conference Centre Station Road Birnam Dunkeld PH8 0DS
A Scottish folk legend, guitarist, singer/songwriter, composer and orchestrator, is the only performer to hold the dual honour of a Lifetime Achievement award by BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and induction in2009 into the Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame, an award which celebrates exceptional contribution to the Scottish traditional music scene. Born in Glasgow from Irish parents, Gaughan was brought up immersed in the musical traditions and culture of the Gaels, both Scots and Irish, and this provided the foundation for everything he’s ever done, since he picked up his first guitar at the tender age of 7 years old. Dick Gaughan is Scotland’s most passionate troubadour, a singer and guitarist whose performances both burn with a fierce conviction and smoulder with equally heartfelt compassion, and invigorate audiences across the world with eloquently expressed resolution. This is a concert to beat for any Folk afficionado, but will equally appeal to and entertain anyone who just simply likes to hear great guitar playing and enjoys songs which come straight from the heart. “Gaughan’s remarkable guitar playing propels and underpins that astonishing voice, the kind of voice that stops trains in its tracks” The Herald Tickets: £12 / £10 / £5 Tel: box office 01350 727674 admin@birnaminstitute.com www.birnamarts.com

This is the second fundraising talk that Adrian Davis has given – previously, his Wildcat talk was a hugely popular event, and raised much needed funds for Birnam Arts. Adrian is a wildlife expert and ecologist with a special understanding of animal behaviour, with extensive knowledge of Scottish wildlife.
