The Atholl Highlanders’ talk in the magnificent castle ballroom with the castle’s archivist and an Atholl Highlander explains how the regiment was granted their colours and the history and tradition behind the annual parade. sion: £5. Followed by the parade an amazing spectacle of Europe’s only private army, parading on the castle forecourt to the sound of the pipes and drums. The Atholl Highlanders officially opening the Highland Games with a “March On” at 1.15pm, led again by the skirl of their pipes and the deep, sonorous booming of their drums. Heavyweight strong men from around Scotland take centre stage to battle it out in the Highland Games, which includes traditional events such as tossing the caber, putting the shot and throwing the hammer. Highland Games date back many centuries, most of the events tracing their roots back to ancient Scottish battle weapons & fighting techniques. Admission: Adults £7, Seniors £5, Children 5-16 year £3.
