Staluppi enthusiastically collects across marque and model and particularly loves convertibles and ’50s cars. A magnificent 1953 Buick Skylark Convertible, for example, has been restored in Matador Red with a two-tone red and white interior. The 322-cid Nailhead V-8 connects to a Twin Turbine Dynaflow automatic transmission. The well-optioned classic includes power steering, power brakes, power windows and power top, a 12-volt electrical system, continental kit, chrome spoke wheels and whitewall tires.

John Staluppi, a Brooklyn native, began his car passion in the “big-is-better” ’50s and ’60s. At age 16 he bought his first car: a 1962 black-on-black Corvette, optioned with the 340horsepower 327-cubic-inch V-8 and a 4-speed transmission. After he reluctantly sold the Vette, he was able to find, repurchase and restore it years later. “It is the focal point of his collection today, his favorite car and one of three he won’t sell,” Bennett explains. “This is actually the third time he’s completely sold his collection. After this, he’ll start again with

Finished in white with tan leather interior, this is #001 of the 484 letter cars produced this year. Not surprisingly, it is a multiple award-winner including at an AACA Grand National Senior event. From the following year are three ’58 ragtops, a Dual Ghia, a Pontiac Bonneville and a 1958 Eldorado Biarritz. Three more represent the final year of the Eisenhower decade, a Buick Electra, DeSoto Firesweep and another “letter-car,” a Chrysler 300E. Finished in two-tone Deauville Blue and Kashmir Blue, so

characteristic of the decade, the 370-cid Bonne’ is a tri-power V-8 connected to a 4-speed Super Hydramatic transmission. The two-tone blue interior is fitted with front and rear bucket seats. The multiple award-winning Pontiac is one of 3,096 produced that year and is also an AACA Grand National Senior. Power steering, air ride suspension, a continental kit and wide whitewall tires are included. “It even has a pull-out transistor radio you can take to the beach,” Bennett says. The Corvette, “America’s sport’s car,” is well represented, from early models such as a low-production 1954 Convertible to a 2019 Yenko Convertible. A multiple NCRS Top Flight winner featured in Vette Magazine, the 1956 Convertible is equipped with the 265-cid, 225-horse V-8 and a 3-speed manual. One of 500 produced, the sport coupe, white on black and red premium leather interior, is a carbon fiber monocoque with front and rear aluminum subframes and carbon fiber body panels and red brake calipers. triARC Architecture & Design written by Stephanie Fogelson In the Greater Phoenix area, a concoction of a surging population, aging demographics, and multiple freeway and road expansions has helped out the cause for healthcare real estate projects. According to data from the Phoenix branch of national real estate services company JLL, there was a 33percent decrease in office vacancies since 2010. What’s more, the metro Phoenix medical office market saw a boost, representing about 17 million square feet of on- and off-campus space throughout the valley. At press time, an additional 300,000 square feet of space is under construction has been planned in the southeast valley alone (i.e. Gilbert, Queen Creek). In that regard, it’s safe to say that business is booming in Phoenix when it comes to developing new healthcare construction projects. And while Banner Health and Mayo Clinic are common names that come to mind when you think of multi-million-dollar expansions, it’s the next level behind these well-known names that are really making a difference in our community. Enter triARC, a female-owned architecture team focusing on building practical yet unique spaces in the healthcare industry. Led by Jill Hamblen and

Marlene Seitz, both architects with a deep interest in healthcare architecture, and arriving at this passion in very different ways. For Seitz, it was ignited during her undergraduate studio with a focus on healthcare giving her the realization architecture could have a deeper purpose through healing. This led to Clemson, a master’s in healthcare architecture and being recruited to Phoenix for her expertise. For Hamblen, it was spending time in Neonatal Intensive Care Units with doctors and specialists looking over her micro-preemie baby that shaped her passions and knowledge. Hamblen seeks to bring a more functional, warm, and efficient aesthetic to new healthcare facilities, promoting the perfect backdrop for exceptional care. Hamblen and Seitz’s relationship started as softball teammates, expanded to co-workers and now they consider each other “Arizona sisters.” triARC is their mechanism to support this mutual passion for healthcare architecture and has allowed them to build a top-tier firm that feels more like a family than a group of co-workers. They both saw a need to do something drastically different in the industry, breaking away from the same old outlines and processes.

“Most firms have standard processes and only go about a project in a certain way for a predetermined price. We wanted to do things so different. It starts with our client’s vision. It isn’t our project – it is theirs! We have the privilege of making it even more than what they might imagine” says Hamblen. “We always need to consider what the patient is going through, what unique needs they have, forsee these issues and build a plan around them,” adds Seitz. One of those unique needs was creating a spa-like environment for patients out of the New Directions fertility clinic in Gilbert. A 5,000-square-foot space featuring soft curves and warm colors, it’s a hard left turn away from harshly lit, windowless clinics most might be familiar with. The goal was to create an inviting space where patients and their partners could feel safe and invited while their privacy was ensured.

triARC goes beyond creating inspired healthcare projects, expanding its vision to everything from corporate offices to industrial office to senior living, like The Retreat at Alameda currently under construction in Phoenix. What it comes down to at triARC, which currently employees 21 architects and designers, is taking the time to understand the overall vision and goals of the client and marry them with their take on what the future will look like, no matter the industry. “We always enter a new relationship with a true understanding of the client before we dive into the project details because we know the fit has to be right. The Owner, Architect and Contractor will be married for the foreseeable future. When this relationship is solid, the project will be a success.”

Another favorite among the team, the massive 45,000-squarefoot Adelante project in Goodyear, takes its inspiration from the nearby mountains and hills that were once farmland and are now the backdrop for bustling communities. The interior clinic harnesses nature through skylights and flowing soffits much like the shafts of sunlight that slice through openings in Antelope Canyon in Northern Arizona. The result is a calming space for patients and visitors and a state-of-the-art community health center.

Harte’s business in 1979 began with a saucepan on a stove in Huntington Woods, Michigan, a Detroit suburb. Despite an ardent search for the finest custom chocolate, she couldn’t find one that satisfied her standards. So she whipped up her own. Years later, she visited Sedona and married a neighbor of the Portnoys, who had moved there from Jacksonville, Florida, in 2009. When Harte was ready to retire, the family enthusiastically acquired the company.

Back in 2013, Lyft only had about two million monthly users on its app. Now, it sees around 23 million. Uber, which has its tech-savvy tentacles in everything from scooters to bikes to buses to freight trucks, sees around 75 million monthly users hailing rides through the app worldwide.

Drive allows consumers the flexibility to experience a Porsche vehicle for business or pleasure without a longterm commitment.

POST PHOTO COVERAGE written by Peter Volny A few thousand people descended on the Scottsdale 101 Shopping Center on Saturday morning October 5 to see a couple of hundred of the most exotic high-performance cars in the state. Scuderia Southwest (SSW), organizers of the show, have downsized from 800 cars to less than 300 as the show had grown unwieldy and difficult to manage. The new format restricts entry to vehicles that the organizers judge to be true high-performance exotics. Scuderia Southwest have also converted to a paid membership model where in addition to the show they will be offering their members a variety of activities including drives, track days, tech sessions and social events. To apply for membership, visit www.scuderiasouthwest.com but it is restricted to those with appropriate cars. In addition to seeing contemporary and classic Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Porsches, McLarens, Aston Martins, Cobras, Corvettes, Vipers also parked together were three of the new Ford GTs, which as expected attracted a lot of attention. The show is held on the first Saturday of every month all year long, from 7AM â&#x20AC;&#x201C; 10AM at the corner of Scottsdale Rd. & Mayo Blvd. Car entry is restricted to Scuderia Southwest members but non-members with qualifying vehicles can pay a small fee. The wide, flat torque curve, the linear build-up of power and a 7,600 rpm redline mean that the engine is ready to deliver an exhilarating experience at a moment’s notice. Two, quickspooling mon-scroll turbochargers, High precision direct injection, Valvetronic variable valve timing and Double-Vanos fully variable cam timing deliver lighting fast responses of power to the driver’s throttle inputs. The S55 engine block is of a closed-deck design to deal with high cylinder pressures. Cylinder walls are coated with a wirearc sprayed-on coating instead of liners to help reduce weight. The exhaust gases are routed through a, unique to the M2 CS, dual-branch exhaust system with electronically-controlled exhaust valves and two, twin-exhaust pipes with engraved ///M logos. The exhaust sound can be controlled via the M Engine Dynamics control switch in the center console. Cooling is provided by a central radiator, two smaller side radiators, an oil cooler, two scavenging pumps in the oil sump pan along with a sump baffle to help control oil movement under all circumstances. In all, Barrett-Jackson sold 677 vehicles for $33.3-plus million, and more than 352 pieces of automobilia generated in excess of $855,800 –– both records for the Las Vegas event. And, $560,000 was raised through the sale of charity vehicles, bringing the total sales to $34.8-plus million.

Ironstone Concours D’Elegance Hosts 3,500 Car Lovers at 23rd-Annual Event written by David M. Brown Paul Petrovich of Sacramento, California, won Best of Show for his 1930 Duesenberg J Murphy Roadster during the 23rd Ironstone Concours D’Elegance September 28 at Ironstone Vineyards and Winery, near Murphys, California.

1969 Mercury Cougar, Bob and Gayle Viola, San Mateo, California, American Autos 1965 through 1973. The day before the concours, the third Ironstone Vintage Back Roads Tour guided 35 participants through Calaveras County, beginning at Ironstone Vineyards and ending at New Melones Lake for lunch on a boat. That night, the annual Cars & Stars Dinner welcomed 450 guests.

Approximately 3,500 people attended, and 365 antique, classic and vintage motorcars, trucks, farm equipment, motorcycles and amphicars were shown and judged in 30 classes for vehicles 1973 vintage and earlier. The 100th anniversary of Bentley was celebrated, and American Motors AMXs, Hudsons and race cars were honored. Chris and Michelle Roth of Thousand Oaks, California, won the Hudson Class with their 1954 Hudson Italia.

The owners of Ironstone Vineyards, farmers and vintners Gail and John Kautz began the event to help young people stay involved in agriculture for their careers. Proceeds from this year’s event benefited the 4-H, Future Farmers of America (FFA) and the California State Fair.

The oldest winning car was a 1906 Locomobile Touring, owned by Ed and Karen Archer of Hayward, California, accepting the 4-H Award. Another vintage car was the Ironstone Foundation Award winner, a 1921 Paige Daytona, Tom and Joanne Martindale of Santa Cruz, California. And, a 1916 Packard Twin 6, Lynn and Michael Harling, Dallas, Texas, was the Best Unrestored Car.

“Despite the cold and cloudy weather, the rains held off, and we had a wonderful day!” Gail says. “Every year we have more and more beautiful and unique cars on display, and this year was no exception. With over 350 vehicles ranging from vintage race cars to Duesenbergs, it was another successful year of raising much-appreciated funds for local 4-H and FFA chapters.”
