Monyae Williamson-Gourley, an HPU alumna and Ph D candidate at Florida State, credits HPU for shaping her sport management career Mentored by Drs Foster, Frye, Kifer, and Lukow, she developed key skills in writing and statistics. With over 10 years in collegiate athletics and a master’s from Jacksonville State, she now pursues a doctorate in Sport Management Monyae highly encourages students to seek advanced degrees and emphasizes communication, adaptability, and problem-solving as essential for success in the sports industry

Guest Speaker Feature
The Sport Management department welcomed Paige Miller, Account Manager from GoHammerhead, to campus for a full day of exciting events Ms Miller had the opportunity to share her insights and perspectives while speaking with several classes, networking with students over lunch, and even interviewing students who had applied for the extraordinary experiential opportunities offered by her organization GoHammerhead effectively designs, manages, and executes VIP transportation at large scale international sporting events We appreciate her time at our university
September in Review
SMA Kickoff Event
On September 9th, the Sport Management Association (SMA) kicked off the semester with a high-energy meeting that was nothing short of a championship opener SMA is the student club for all sport management majors and minors interested in pursuing a career in the sports industry
Students had the chance to meet the Executive Council and get in the game with a preview of the semester's lineup The fall schedule includes Facility Fridays, engaging guest speakers, beneficial networking opportunities, and a variety of social events With such an enthusiastic turnout, it's clear that this semester is going to be full of opportunities for all

p g Maymester program offers students a chance to explore global sports Maxwell Rattet, a senior sport management major, who traveled to Dublin and London, deepened his understanding of the cultural impact of sport In Dublin, he learned about hurling and Gaelic football, and in London, he explored cricket and soccer
Maxwell emphasized how sports unify communities and how the experience strengthened his own academic knowledge His favorite moments were bonding with classmates and attending a Fulham soccer match He highly recommends the study abroad program to students for its academic and personal benefits
Jessie Rall, a senior sport management major and President of the Sport Management Association, has been named Student of the Month. Throughout her time at High Point University, Jessie has been a key player on the case study team and has led initiatives like Facility Fridays, offering students unique, hands-on learning experiences Her advice to peers? "Become involved in the major and put yourself out there to experience new opportunities " Jessie’s leadership and commitment to the program continue to inspire and set a high standard for her fellow students.

September Highlights & October Game Plan
As September draws to a close, it’s clear that this month has already been a triumph for the Sport Management department We’ve started strong with a series of engaging guest speakers and exciting events, highlighted by our successful Sport Management kickoff
Looking ahead, October promises to be just as dynamic On October 2, the HPU Sport Management program will have 12 students participating in the Case Study Competition at the NC-SMA Symposium taking place in Charlotte, NC We’re eagerly awaiting the results and the valuable takeaways they’ll bring back to our department
Also on October 2nd, students will visit the Charlotte Sports & Entertainment Career Fair, hosted by Charlotte FC at Bank of America Stadium This career fair offers an opportunity to connect with sports employers from Charlotte and the surrounding area, an invaluable chance to network and explore potential career paths
We’re also excited to unveil our new Sport Management Association logo in this month’s newsletter This fresh look represents our commitment to evolving and staying at the forefront of the industry Be sure to check it out and see how we’re marking this new chapter
As we prepare for October, remember to mark your calendars for the Sport Management Association meeting on October 14th at 6:00 PM in the Baur Conference Room This meeting will be a great opportunity to strategize, connect with peers, and discuss our plans for the rest of the semester
