a pandemia del COVID-19 ha transformado nuestras vidas en formas que nunca hubiéramos imaginado. La mayoría de nosotros conoce a alguien que fue contagiado o que perdió a un familiar, amigo o compañero por la pandemia. La mayoría no podemos todavía realizar muchas de las pequeñas cosas o actividades colectivas que dan plenitud a nuestra existencia como seres sociables. Pero la vida sigue. Y ahora nos corresponde enfrentar el reto de la nueva normalidad con disciplina e imaginación: mantener una sana distancia, usar cubre bocas, lavarnos las manos y no olvidar las medidas preventivas de salud como las visitas periódicas al doctor –bajo el nuevo método de tele-consulta- y sin olvidar nuestro calendario de exámenes médico regulares. Most of us still can't do many of the little things or collective activities that fulfill our existence as sociable beings. But life goes on. And now it is up to us to face the challenge of the new normality with discipline and imagination: keep a healthy distance, use mouth covers, wash our hands and not forget preventive health measures such as regular visits to the doctor - under the new

At this time, HIV testing is more important than ever because there may be an increased risk of developing complications from COVID-19 among adults with serious underlying diseases or with a compromised immune system. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), people with HIV may also be at increased risk for serious medical complications from Covid-19 from their age or other medical conditions. As the saying goes, prevention is better than regret. The good news is that it is now possible to get tested for HIV quickly, easily, and confidentially from the comfort of your home. HIV self-tests, also known as a home HIV test, also allow us to know the result privately, which can help increase our awareness of the importance of the test and help prevent new cases. The new test collection kits can be used for both HIV testing and other sexually transmitted diseases. They can be ordered through our family doctor or online, and in most cases their cost is covered by most health insurance plans. Some states even offer the tests for free.

Marinade/Sauce 1/4 cup lime juice 3 tablespoons fish sauce 2 tablespoons sugar 2 cloves garlic, finely grated or minced 2 tablespoons finely minced lemongrass bulb Pinch red pepper flakes 4 stalks lemongrass 1 1/2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch chunks 1 tablespoon vegetable oil 1/2 cup quartered California grapes 1/4 cup chopped cilantro

Directions Make the marinade and sauce: Combine the lime juice, fish sauce, sugar and garlic in a small saucepan over medium high heat. Bring to a

simmer and add the lemongrass and red pepper flakes. Cook 30 seconds and transfer to a bowl set in a bowl of ice water. Chill until room temperature, stirring frequently. Peel the dark green leaves off each lemongrass stalk and cut each crosswise into 6-inch long pieces for 8 skewers. With the tip of a paring knife, poke a small hole in each piece. Using the lemongrass as a skewer, insert lemongrass into each piece of chicken, putting 2 to 3 pieces on each stalk; place in a 9 X 13-inch dish. During the 2019 season, the Earthquakes scored 52 goals, their second most in a single season since returning to Major League Soccer in 2008. ACRAMENTO, Calif. -- About 200 health centers across the state have closed their doors during the pandemic because the number of patient visits dropped by half, prompting advocates to push for more federal relief. They do get some CARES Act funding, but the Paycheck Protection Act specifically excluded clinics with more than 500 employees. Carmela CastellanoGarcia, president and CEO with the California Primary Care Association, said 22 of the state's largest clinics are really hurting financially.

"There are 1,300 sites serving 7.2 million people," she said. "We are seeing 1 in 3 of the state's Medi-Cal recipients and 1 in 6 Californians." Many health centers are hanging on by offering more visits over the telephone to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Currently, 50% of visits are done over the phone, a trend that may persist after the pandemic subsides.

How can you remain a part of the community if you need to stay separated from it? Many organizations, like political parties, faith-based groups, or nonprofits, offer remote options, relying on volunteers to make phone calls. Go on a news diet While it's important to stay informed, don't get locked into endlessly watching "breaking news" on the 24-hour news channels. Typically, not much changes hour to hour, and enduring the repetitious pummeling from TV all day long can bring needless anxiety. Instead, try watching a news update in the morning, then check in again at night. And don't stay with it all evening: 30 minutes or an hour is usually plenty to stay well informed. Find a buddy system The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is recommending that communities create "buddy systems" to make sure vulnerable and hard-to-reach people stay connected, particularly to news about COVID-19. This can be done through a church group, social group, or daily neighborhood email blasts. Reach out to people in your communities to locate these groups or start one of your own. Something as simple as a message with a kind word can go a long way during uncertain times. Make a phone call All the digital options available today may make a simple phone call seem old fashioned. ensus workers have completed 96% of the 2020 Census “Update Leave” operation- where 2020 Census invitations and paper questionnaires are delivered to households in certain — often rural — areas across the country. In these areas, most households generally do not receive mail at their homes, so census workers drop off census materials in person. When the operation is complete, nearly every household nationwide will have received an invitation to participate in the 2020 Census either in the mail or from a census worker. As of June 18, 61.5% of households have responded to the census. The U.S. Census Bureau urges households to respond now by completing and mailing back the paper questionnaire, responding online at 2020census.gov, or by phone at 844330-2020 using the provided Census ID. Census workers are dropping off census materials at the front doors of roughly 6.8 million households nationwide, including Puerto Rico. Census workers began delivering materials on March 15 but suspended delivery on March 18 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Census workers resumed delivery on May 4 as part of a phased restart of 2020 Census op-

erations. In some areas of the country, the operation is complete, and in others it will be completed soon. In addition to delivering census materials, census workers also update the Census Bureau’s address list in these areas to ensure no living quarters were missed. This helps reach people in areas where the majority of households may not receive mail at their home’s physical location, such as small towns where mail is only delivered to post office boxes or areas affected by natural disasters. Currently, nearly four out of 10 households have yet to respond to the 2020 Census, which is why the Census Bureau urges every household to complete it as soon as possible online, by phone or by mail. Households that do not respond to the invitation will be visited by a census taker during the Nonresponse Followup Operation. Your response shapes decisions about how public funds are spent for schools, fire and emergency services, and health care for your community. Results from the 2020 Census also determine how many seats each state receives in Congress and provide data for redrawing legislative districts. Una isla península que se cree existió hace unos doce mil años, se dice que fue la civilización más avanzada que ha existido en la historia de la humanidad. Dicha isla continente según la mitología, fue creada por “Poseidón" el dios griego de los mares y era gobernada por el titán Atlas o Atlantis, por ello el Océano Atlántico se llama así, como un recuerdo reverencial de lo que fue aquella isla maravillosa. Cuna de la mitología grecolatina. Alrededor del año 360 antes de Cristo, el filósofo griego “Platón", fue quien primeramente hizo referencia de la Atlántida, en su libro de diálogos que tituló “Timaeus y Critias”. En estos diálogos relata la existencia de una

enorme isla, llena de esplendor y riqueza que se localizaba más allá de los Pilares de Heracles, sitio que hoy en día se conoce como Estrecho de Gibraltar, entre las costas del sur de España y el norte de Marruecos. Platón revela en su relato que la historia de la Atlántida, la supo por medio de uno de sus amigos más cercanos, quién a su vez era amigo de unos sacerdotes egipcios, quienes le relataron que según la historia de Egipto, los antiguos egipcios provenían de una isla que estaba situada en el “Mar Tenebroso”. Así se le llamó por mucho tiempo al Océano Atlántico, ya que durante milenios nadie se atrevía a navegar en él, por miedo a lo desconocido y a las lúgubres leyendas de horribles tempestades, monstruos y sirenas que acechaban a los navegantes. Platón relata que la Atlántida, contaba con una tecnología muy avanzada, en la cuál se proveía y dirigía energía por medio de cristales inmensos. Tenían medios muy avanzados de comunicación y de transporte, pero la crueldad y la maldad se apoderó de aquellas mentes brillantes y por castigo divino, la isla fue destruida en un sólo día y una sola noche. Se cree que un enorme volcán hizo erupción, partiendo a la isla en pedazos, provocando un tsunami que la inundó y la hundió en el fondo del mar. Otra teoría dice que fue el choque de un cometa el culpable de su destrucción. Y una teoría moderna cree que fue el deshielo de los polos, el causante del hundimiento de la Atlántida. el siglo pasado cuando alguien se atrevió a describirla y a afirmar que si existió. “Edgar Cayce", el más afamado clarividente estadounidense afirmó haber tenido una visión de cómo lucían la Atlántida y sus habitantes, dijo que tenían tecnología extra terrestre y que el secreto de sus orígenes, cultura e historia, están enterrados debajo de la famosa Esfinge de Giza, en Egipto. Cayce pronosticó que alrededor del año 1968 y 1969 se descubrirían vestigios de esta avanzada civilización antediluviana, y así ocurrió. Historiadores creen que los nativos americanos fueron visitados por los atlantes y de allí provienen las leyendas de hombres blancos con barba que llegaron de una tierra más allá del mar. Se cree que hay vestigios de la Atlántida, en sitios tan lejanos entre sí como Camboya, Egipto, Yucatán y la Isla de Pascua. Aún así, el verdadero origen y la posición geográfica que ocupó la Atlántida, están cubiertos por un velo de enigma y misterio.

Air pollution and rollbacks to environmental protections and regulations make it hard for black people to breathe,” says Robert Bullard of the non-profit National Black Environmental Justice Network (NBEJN). Sammy Roth reports in the Los Angeles Times that there are many links between ecological degradation and inequality: “Consider water contamination in predominantly black and brown communities, such as Flint, Michigan, where experts say the drinking water crisis was rooted in systemic racism.” She cites a February 2020 Los Angeles Times investigation that found Black, Latino and low-income California residents to be especially likely to live near polluting unplugged oil and gas wells. And many studies show that people of color are more likely than whites to live near power plants, oil refineries and landfills. “In the U.S., the best predictor of whether you live near a hazardous waste site is the color of your skin.” To add insult to injury, climate change is already hitting people of color harder than others in the U.S., a fact not lost on BLM. “We are not saying that white people do not feel the impact of climate change,” BLM activists Patrisse Cullors and Nyeusi Nguvu report in a Guardian op-ed. “We

are saying that if you are black then you are more likely to die as a result of it—and, if you survive, are more likely to struggle to replace what was lost and will receive little support in doing so.” What can we do to reduce or eliminate this insidious form of injustice? Activists blame governments as well as corporations for discriminating against racial minorities in deciding where to put pollution sources. Attending local zoning or planning board meetings in your city or town—and speaking up against what’s not right—would be a good start. But, of course, there is more to the story. “While it is clear that discriminatory siting plays a role, other causes may help explain both the behavior of firms and the disparate environmental harms experienced by low-income populations and minorities,” reports Shea Diaz in the Vermont Journal of Environmental Law. “Regulators may enforce environmental laws and regulations unequally, affected communities may lack political power, and market dynamics may drive both businesses and residents to low-cost real estate.” According to Diaz, it’s important to understand the contribution of each of these to environmental injustice because they may call for different policy responses. And only when a majority of elected officials agree can we begin to enact laws that regulate how governments and companies treat minority and low-income communities. na generación de gente joven blanca se ha tomado las calles en el medio de una pandemia para protestar no solo por la muerte del afroamericano George Floyd a manos de la policía, sino por el racismo estructural y todo tipo de inequidades en la sociedad estadounidense. El hashtag #LasVidasdelosNegrosImportan, se ha convertido en un movimiento internacional, y los llamados a reducir recursos para la policía e invertirlos en programas sociales de salud mental y apoyo comunitario, tienen fuerte eco en varios sectores políticos federales y locales. ¿Simboliza todo esto un cambio de timón en las relaciones raciales de Estados Unidos? De acuerdo con expertos convocados en una conferencia de prensa por Ethnic Media Services, el nuevo escenario significa al menos una nueva oportunidad. “Todos los líderes de derechos civiles reconocen que hay un despertar en Estados Unidos”, dijo Connie Rice, abogada activista de derechos civiles y co-directora del Advancement Project California. “Hay una enorme fluctuación en medio del caos, los jóvenes manifestantes en todo el mundo han movido una placa tectónica, del nivel de un tsunami, pero no sabemos cómo la política va a jugar en todo esto”. Para Rice los blancos de Estados Unidos deberían estar preguntándose “cuánto racismo están dispuestos a tolerar y perdonar”. En lo que Gorbis se muestra optimista es en lo que llamó “el trabajo cívico esencial” que la gente con tiempo libre en sus manos debido al encierro y al desempleo, ha venido haciendo: protestas, demostraciones, participaciones en las audiencias de cabildos y en las discusiones públicas. “Ojalá este proceso que ha encendido el cambio, sirva para repensar los pilares económicos que han contribuido al maltrato a los trabajadores”, observó. “Un periodo brutal” Para Manuel Pastor, profesor de sociología y estudios étnicos de la Universidad del Sur de California (USC), la crisis del COVID19 ha revelado “la enfermedad fundamental” de nuestra sociedad. “Hemos tenido un velo sobre la vulnerabilidad y la marginación de sectores que están siendo capaces de hablar por sí mismos (...) la gente en la comunidad blanca ha empezado a reconocer que ha sido un periodo brutal para la gente de color”, agregó. Solo el 5% de las llamadas que recibe la Policía involucran una violacion, un robo o un asesinato y aun así desarmar a estos cuerpos de seguridad no es lo que los manifestantes piden. “Necesitamos seguridad para los más pobres en zonas donde hay alto nivel de crimen”, dijo Rice. Pero para ello “no es suficiente cambiar las técnicas o darles entrenamiento (a los agentes) sobre la imparcialidad. Hay que cambiar esa cultura guerrera de la impunidad. Que dejen de ser gladiadores y se conviertan en guardianes”, concluyó.

"The state of California has now indicated that it will not issue theme park reopening guidelines until sometime after July 4. Se trata del videojuego EndeavorRx, producido por Akili Interactive, de apariencia tradicional y consistente en completar misiones en distintos escenarios y salvando todos los obstáculos que aparecen en el camino del protagonista. La autorización de la FDA, otorgada tras siete años de ensayos clínicos en más de 600 niños y niñas, permite que el videojuego se anuncie como terapia digital para mejorar la capacidad de atención en los jóvenes de entre ocho y doce años con TDAH. "EndeavorRx ofrece una opción libre de medicación para mejorar los síntomas asociados a TDAH en los niños y es un ejemplo importante del creciente campo de las terapias digitales", dijo en un comunicado el director del Centro para Dispositivos y Salud Radiológica de la FDA, Jeffrey Shuren.
