ABOUT THE DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY DEBATES Hilbert Morales EL OBSERVADOR

T

here are 25 Democrats who have declared their objective of being elected as the next President of U.S.A. They are: 1) Michael Bennet; 2) Joe Biden; 3) Cory Booker; 4) Steve Bullock; 5) Pete Buttigieg; 6) Julian Castro; 7) Bill Blasio; 8) John Delaney; 9) Tulsi Gabbard; 10) Kirsten Gillibrand; 11) Mike Gravel; 12) Kamala Harris; 13) John Hickenlooper; 14) Jay Inslee; 15) Amy Klobuchar; 16) Wayne Messam; 17) Seth Moulton; 18) Beto O'Rourke; 19) Tim Ryan; 20) Bernie Sanders; 21) Joe Sestak; 22) Eric Swalwell; 23) Elizabeth Warren; 24) Marianne Williamson and 25) Andrew Yang. These aspirants for the Presidency must be culled down to the President and Vice-President, who will campaign to prevent Trump from being elected to a second 4-year term. First, those who had not garnered support exceeding 2% were not present at all during the two debates scheduled for Tuesday, June 24th and

Wednesday, June 25th. Many of my friends were not interested in viewing these two separate debates. However, those who debated were visible evidence that the Democratic Party has the potential of passing the torch to the next youthful generation. The entire group was diverse; contained African Americans; HispanicLatinos; and several women who are already successful elected officials. In addition, Beto O'Rourke (Texas) spoke Spanish (as did several others) when he said (in Spanish): “We must listen to voters and the Latino voter must vote to be counted” (if Trump is not to be re-elected to a second term). Julian Castro (Texas) debated Beto about the need to decriminalize those who cross the U.S. - Mexican border illegally. Castro proposes making that act a civil offense rather than continue its current 'criminal offense' status. This simple legal code change would eliminate the legal authority used by the U.S. Border Patrol staff to separate kids from their parents. In addition, border authorities could subcontract with available non-profit organizations who have the capacity to deal with

families and those children who are not accompanied by their parents when illegally entering into U.S.A. jurisdictions. The current Trump Administration effort has been totally inept, inhumane, and must become more professional, especially when dealing with unsupervised children. This public policy debacle is more than sufficient cause to motivate the Latino voter to speak up with their vote as well as their support and voice when demanding that those seeking asylum be treated and handled in accordance with the humane standards required by law and regulation (and common sense). The current border situation is disgusting and totally inept with the result that much human suffering and misery is created. Getting back to Tuesday's first debate, its participants (Elizabeth Warren, Julian Castro, Beto O'Rourke) discussed the following public policy issues: 1) the need to enact comprehensive immigration legislation; 2) A need to enact a comprehensive national health care plan (Medicare for All); 3) The global climate changes must be addressed

(Trump Administration ignores this reality and phenomenon). The first debate seemed to emphasize that the Democratic Party will really encourage the Latino voter to stand up and be counted. The debate on Wednesday featured 'personality assassination' when Senator Kamala Harris attacked former Vice President Joe Biden by bringing up his association with two Senators during the 1970's policy to use school bussing to integrate 'lily-white public schools' in Berkeley, CA. Kamala Harris revealed that she was that, 'little elementary school girl' who was bussed to address racist segregation in California. “I do not believe you are a racist, but that little girl was me,” stated Kamala. Joe Biden (and his staff) were completely caught unprepared to respond to this revelation which seemed to diminish the stature of Joe Biden who played a major role in passage of the Brady Bill (gun control/violence mitigation). Senator Bernie Sanders addressed the Medicare for All policy which needs to be enacted as this nation's

comprehensive health care policy. This is resisted by the Health Insurance industry which will be reduced to providing insurances for cosmetic surgery. As usual, the economy and jobs are a public policy issue which will be adversely impacted by the current import-export tariffs being applied by the Trump administration. There are signs that certain items will end up costing more when purchased by American consumers. Of interest to the Latino community is the use of the Spanish language and the presence of at least three Latinos who have the public service experience to be present in this group of 25 presidential candidates. Also, African Americans, women and the gay community were represented. This is a very diverse group when compared to the make-up of the Republican Party (mostly White, wealthy men). What the above indicates is that each of us has access to participation in our governance by selection and support of those who best represent our interests with transparent actions.

Com

or kids, the start of a new school year is like New Year’s Eve: a chance to start fresh and set intentions for the year ahead. It’s a time to reboot, make new friends, get new clothes and gear, and find new opportunities to fuel their passions. As parents, you can help your children have a Happy School Year by encouraging them to set and accomplish their goals — or school year’s resolutions. Whether they want to join math club, improve their finger-painting skills, or just make the bus on time every day, here are some tips to help kids achieve their goals this year. 1) Record school year’s resolutions. Take the time to sit down and chat with your children about what they hope to accomplish in the new year and how they envision getting there. This is a great way for you to learn more about your kids’ dreams — the answer may surprise you! Plus, it’s even a great time for you to make school year’s resolutions. A new school year represents a fresh start for parents too. By setting goals with your child, you can lead by example and bond over the journey of seeing your goals through. 2) Celebrate school year’s eve. Help your child avoid a case of the “Sunday scaries” before the first day of school by hosting a School Year’s Eve Party! Make the new school year something that is fun and celebrated, not feared and dreaded. Include festive decorations and party props, a Happy School Year playlist, and your kid’s favorite foods and treats. There are a lot of sweet school-themed snacks you can make too. Grab some fun cookie cutters or check out Pinterest for tips on how to use what you already have in your kitchen to make fun treats. 3) Get organized. New school year, new schedule.

Develop a system to keep yourself and your family organized, ensuring resolutions don’t fall by the wayside. Use something like an Amazon Wish List to keep track of supplies needed for the year, a personalized planner to track projects and activities, and sticky notes to keep everyone posted (literally) on family whereabouts. To help your family track progress, you can even create and decorate a family "Happy School Year" cork board. 4) Stock up for success. Every new school year comes with classroom supply lists and new wardrobe needs. A one-stop shop retailer like Amazon lets you complete your shopping on your own schedule and have items shipped to you, allowing more time to soak up those last bits of summer as a family. You can also sign up for a Prime membership to get deals and free shipping to save on the essentials. Plus, the incredible selection makes it easy to find everything from the classroom must-haves to those special items your kids need to achieve their school year’s resolutions — whether that’s art supplies to become a better artist or rainbow socks to be more colorful every day. Radio personality and co-founder of Lil’ Libros Patty Rodriguez likes to browse in Spanish on the storefront, which she says gives parents the convenience of shopping at any time in their language with just the click of a button. 5) Ease into the year. To give your children the best chance of having a Happy School Year, try easing into the school year by adjusting your routine a week or more in advance. For example, if your child’s resolution is to make it to school on time, Patty Rodriguez suggests setting the morning alarm a full week before the first day of school. says 14 min and Lyft says 5 min, you cancel Uber and go with Lyft. If Lyft turns out to then really say 12 min, you open Uber and check again. And on and on. Any car you get is likely to have both a Lyft and an Uber sticker in the window, which is the definition of undifferentiated.

A

utonomous vehicles (AVs) are about to dramatically change the world of on-demand car services. Viewed through that lens, Uber and Lyft’s current business models are doomed to fail. Think about this…

So, future strategies will have to include all kinds of other on-demand services or some as yet undefined strategic direction. Or perhaps something different will happen.

BIG IPOS Uber and Lyft, the two biggest US-based on-demand car service companies, went public this year. Uber posted a $1 billion loss on revenue of $3.1 billion. That loss was in line with the company’s forecast, as Uber has called 2019 an “investment year.” Uber reported that costs were up 35% in the quarter (due in large part to the ramp-up to the IPO), but noted that gross bookings (total value of rides before expenses) were up 34%, YoY. Lyft posted quarterly losses of more than $1 billion, as it found itself, similar to Uber, in “its most money-losing year yet.” Lyft reported a loss of $1.14 billion (compared with a loss of $234.3 million in the same quarter last year), primarily due to the $894 million charge for stock-based compensation. Revenue was up 95% (to $776 million). In both cases, the market seems to have priced the expected losses into the share prices. THE THEORETICAL ECONOMICS OF AVS In theory, it costs approximately $2 per mile to put a human driver behind the wheel of a car service car. This number varies depending on a known number of variables such as the driver’s commission structure, price of insurance, time the driver is willing to spend driving, density of population in the covered area, average length of a ride, prevailing competitive landscape, and other factors. In theory, it will cost approximately 30 cents per mile to have an AV do the same job. These financial assumptions are generally espoused at conferences and summits by pundits and experts in the automotive industry. I’ve taken an average, and I’m sure the actual numbers are wrong, but let’s agree that the ratio of human cost-permile to AV cost-per-mile will be very large (the actual number won’t matter for this argument). At first glance, an extra $1.70 per mile seems irresistible. An 85 percent uptick in gross profit would get anyone’s attention. But there is more to the story. THE ON-DEMAND CLICHÉ How many times have you heard someone say something like, “The world’s largest taxi firm, Uber, owns no cars. The world’s most popular media company, Facebook, creates no content. The world’s most valuable retailer, Alibaba, carries no stock. And the world’s largest accommodation provider, Airbnb, owns no property”? Meta-services like those mentioned above take advantage of inefficiencies in existing marketplaces. Uber’s first mission was to

MY BEST GUESS I think Uber and Lyft will get acquired – or simply replaced – by Big Auto (BMW, Daimler, Ford, or GM, for example). Here’s why.

Photo Credit: Pixabay utilize the time black car drivers wasted waiting for a fare. Uber priced the service between yellow cabs and black cars, and it worked so well, Uber needed more drivers – so it invented a supply chain. Today, if you have a car and a commercial driver’s license and you can prove you are not an axe murderer, you can become an

you are responsible for fuel, insurance, maintenance, loan or lease payments, storage when not in use (parking, charging, etc.) – the list goes on and on. All of a sudden, an on-demand car service transforms from a meta-service profiting from inefficiencies in the marketplace to a good, old-fashioned rental car fleet with

Owning a car is quite different from paying for a percentage of someone’s time because that person has a car and chooses to drive it for you.

Big Auto already has a nationwide dealer network to store and maintain a massive fleet of AVs. There are car dealerships in every town in America. Big Auto manufactures the vehicles, so ride-sharing or on-demand service (short-term rentals) is actually a great way to maximize the profit on any particular vehicle. Why sell it once at the lowest possible price through a two-step distribution model when you can rent it over and over again at a profit? For Uber and Lyft to accomplish the same thing, they would have to pay the full markup on the purchase (Big Auto knows how to sell fleet vehicles). Uber and Lyft would get a discount for volume, but nothing like the margins Big Auto could accomplish for itself. Then, the on-demand car services are going to have to acquire the infrastructure to store and maintain the vehicles. Where will that money come from? I just don’t see Uber and Lyft transforming from meta-services to fleet owners in a profitable way. But the path for Big Auto seems clear. When will this happen? I don’t know, but the current business models for Uber and Lyft are probably not sustainable. Funding their AV evolution looks even less likely. On the other hand, perhaps Uber or Lyft will purchase one of the Big Auto manufacturers. That would take the word “disruption” to another level entirely.

Uber driver. Both Lyft and Uber pivoted, and their business models have significantly changed.

some software that makes short-term, point-to-point rentals (on-demand rides) possible.

META-SERVICE OWNERSHIP

If you want to understand the economics of owning a fleet of vehicles, you don’t have to work very hard. It’s a mature business, and no publicly traded fleet owner is enjoying valuations that are anything like an 8x-plus multiple on revenue.

FLEET

The future of on-demand car services is said to include fleets of AVs. You can choose your own timeline. My guess (which will be as bad as yours) is more than three years and less than 10. Let’s assume that Uber and Lyft have become the de facto ways to get from place to place in certain areas and the companies need to purchase (or lease) 200,000 AVs to augment their humandriven fleets. (Again, choose any large number of AVs; it won’t matter for this argument). Owning a car is quite different from paying for a percentage of someone’s time because that person has a car and chooses to drive it for you. When you own the car,

There’s a lot to love about on-demand car service! I love Uber and Lyft. I use them multiple time each day. The services are outstanding. You rate the drivers; the drivers rate you. The cars are clean. Most drivers use Waze, so directions are not an issue. That said, I’m not sure how long it can last. Prices are artificially low because in certain markets there are subsidized price wars. There is zero loyalty because the services are completely undifferentiated. If Uber

A

Arturo Hilario El Observador

No

4 TIPS DE LESLIE GRACE PARA CONSEGUIR 4 TIPS FROM LESLIE GRACE FOR RADIANT SKIN THIS SUMMER UNA PIEL RADIANTE ESTE VERANO "To look bright and healthy, it is vital to drink lots of water," said Leslie. "In the summer we get dehydrated more easily by spending more time abroad. By staying hydrated, we help our body to function better, which results in a youthful and radiant skin. For more freshness and nutrients, I also recommend adding pieces of lemon or other fruits to your glass of water. " Use a moisturizer and sunscreen "Although it seems heavy to use moisturizers on hot days, it's important to keep your skin nourished under the sun," Leslie said. "I always opt for a light cream or gel and apply it with the tips of my fingers giving small bumps around the face. I also recommend applying more product through the cheekbones to illuminate the face. To protect my skin, I never fail to look for facial creams and lip balms with SPF, since I am always traveling and exposed to the sun. " Light up your face

This summer opt for a natural and radiant "look" that highlights your healthy skin and hair. To achieve this style, Leslie combines the following beauty and health habits throughout the season. Take a lot of water

"Antioxidants are a key food for a beautiful and healthy skin during the summer. The fruits of the forest are a good example of foods with antioxidants that can be easily incorporated into your daily diet. I love strawberries, but I know that some fruits can stain my teeth. For this reason, I recommend my favorite Colgate Optic White High Impact toothpaste because its main ingredient is hydrogen peroxide. " Wear your natural hair in summer "My hair forms a very important part of my identity and complements any style I try. Although I experiment with different trends in hairstyles during the year, this summer I will wear my natural curly hair to complement my radiant complexion. In this way I take advantage of the high temperatures to give a break to the treatments and let my hair take a natural shape, "said Leslie.

Bureau would turn their data over to immigration enforcement officers, who could use it to target undocumented relatives for deportation.

OS ANGELES - Civil-rights groups are praising a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that will probably keep a question about citizenship off the 2020 Census.

Any under-count would negatively affect immigrant communities, because census data is used to redraw political maps and distribute federal funds.

The high court rejected the Trump administration's explanation that asking people about their citizenship status is necessary to enforce the Voting Rights Act. Thomas Saenz, president and general counsel of the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund, says recently unearthed documents from a nowdeceased Republican consultant proved the real motivation behind the question.

Saenz notes that any such breach of confidentiality would be highly illegal, and vows close scrutiny of the process.

L

"That consultant indicates the reason to include the citizenship question is to 'advantage whites, non-Hispanics and Republicans,'" says Saenz. "Ultimately, what's behind the question is to trigger an under-count in groups that the Trump administration views as hostile." Immigrants' rights groups claim that a citizenship question would prompt foreign-born Americans to ignore the survey, fearing that the Census

"Powerful people and powerful organizations will be carefully watching and will step in, to the extent they can, to stop any breach of confidentiality,'" says Saenz. "That's how important this is." This decision leaves the door open for the administration to come back with a different argument, and the president is now calling for the census to be delayed. Civil-rights groups are pressing on with a similar lawsuit intended to prove that racial intent was the motive for adding the citizenship question and asking that it be blocked permanently from census forms.

NUCÚ, THE EDIBLE ANT THAT GIVES MEXICO A TASTY RAINY SEASON Mitzi Mayauel Fuentes Gomez EFE San Cristobal de las Casas, Mexico - People living in a number of municipalities in the southeastern Mexican state of Chiapas wait excitedly every year for the rainy season to start so they can catch the edible ant known as the nucu, chicatana or tzizim. Since the insect only comes out at night when the ground is damp, families of the region stay up all night hunting them with flashlights, oil lamps and candles. They carry tin cans and pails to catch the creatures that will serve as a daily dish if they get enough of them, but will only be served on very special occasions if they catch but few. In the month of May, the markets in Chiapas - one of the country's poorest states - display baskets full of the tasty treat, while saleswomen travel several kilometers (miles) to offer their nucu haul to nearby municipalities for some extra and often muchneeded income for their families. Among the favored municipalities are San Cristobal de las Casas and the capital of Chiapas state, Tuxtla Gutierrez. The bugs are measured out on small earthenware dishes to sell for an average 10 or 50 pesos (52 cents or $2.60) for some 50 or 100 grams of nucu ants. An entire pailful costs up to 4,000 pesos ($208), so that on average the ant is more expensive than a kilo of beef. Don Miguel Solano Garcia of Villa Las Rosas has known the chicatana all his life, and told EFE how his village and family go out looking for them every rainy season.

During the time of the "tzizim hunt, we look for them at night. Sometimes we find them, sometimes we don't. When the ants are around we grab them, but not too many because we only use them to enjoy at home," he said. He added that this succulent insect starts coming out around May 15 and only "when it rains, because in dry weather it's never around." Solano Garcia added that when the edible ant is about to make an appearance, people don't sleep at night and go out to hunt for the insect that gives itself away by moving when attracted by light. Nucu is considered a dish rich in proteins, as well as being exotic and aphrodisiacal. People are used to eating it cooked golden brown on an earthenware hotplate with a pinch of salt added to bring out the bug's flavor. Doña Luisa Santis Santis, 59, has been cooking nucu practically all her life. She told EFE that it's her son who catches them and she who cooks them. According to Doña Luisa, the recipe is simple and starts with browning slightly.

Then it's "off with the wings (these ants have wings like a dragonfly), after which I wash it, add a pinch of salt, brown it a little more and it's ready to go," she said, who noted that it should be fried instantly so the ant doesn't go sour. Nucu-collecting families know the schedule of this odd ant. It only comes out between 11 pm at night and 3 am the next morning. Locals say they have a lot of protein because they only eat corn, lemon flowers and flowers in general.

Dear EarthTalk: What are American businesses doing to help the U.S. meet its Paris climate accord commitments? -- M. Francis, New York, NY

these coalitions to take a proactive stance on battling human-induced climate change. There are many little things that any business large or small can do to lower its carbon footprint, including transitioning to a paperless office and billing, reducing worker trash and increasing workplace recycling, switching to zero-emission company vehicles, promoting ridesharing and other transportation alternatives, replacing light switches with automatic sensors and requiring suppliers and vendors to uphold similarly strong standards.

N

ot every business leader in the U.S. agrees with Donald Trump that global warming isn’t worth the worry. Anyone looking at the facts realizes that climate change is bad for most businesses, except those willing to adapt to new times or those based on sustainable products and processes from the get-go. According to CDP, a non-profit that helps corporations measure, track and publicly disclose their greenhouse gas emissions, the 215 largest companies in the world are facing almost $1 trillion in risk from climate impacts and some $250 billion in losses due to writeoffs of assets over just the next five years as a result of warming-related problems. As a result, many American companies are taking action to rein in their carbon emissions despite the lack of any federal regulation forcing their hands. One of the biggest coalitions of climateconcerned businesses is the non-profit We Mean Business, which has signed on more than 900 companies to set emissions reduction targets in line with the Obama administration’s Paris climate accord commitments. The coalition’s mission is to mobilize companies to set ambitious emissions-reduction targets—and to give them the resources and connections to achieve these goals at ambitious yet nevertheless attainable rates based on realistic “science-based targets.”

This past May, the non-profit CERES got 75 major American companies to join forces in lobbying Congress to pass legislation to fight climate change, a step towards Paris climate accord commitments.

Meanwhile, CERES, another influential coalition of businesses working to build sustainability throughout the economy, on May 19, 2019 organized a day of lobbying on Capitol Hill—the so-called “Lawmaker Education & Advocacy Day (LEAD) on Carbon Pricing”—where 75 major U.S.based companies leaned on Congress to pass meaningful climate legislation, including putting a price on carbon emissions. Exelon, Gap, General Mills, Johnson & Johnson, Kaiser Permanente, Levi’s, Nestlé,

Nike, Microsoft, PepsiCo, Shell and Tesla were among the 21 Fortune 500 companies participating in the event. Along with these big players, dozens of small and medium sized companies as well as several trade associations spanning economic sectors joined the effort. All told, the companies involved represent all 50 states and more than a million U.S. workers, not to mention combined annual revenues of nearly $2.5 trillion. Businesses don’t have to be part of one of

American businesses on their own have the collective economic power to help the U.S. meet its Paris climate commitments—and then some—even without the help of the Trump administration. If a Democrat is able to unseat Trump in 2020, businesses can expect a whole raft of new climate-related legislation that they will have to comply with if they aren’t already going down the path to greener profits. Those businesses already ready are poised to succeed in a fast-warming world. SIMBOLISMO ASTRAL DE LOS PLANETAS Y LOS ASTEROIDES Mario Jiménez Castillo El Observador.

The orders are from the following court or courts (specify county and state): b. Family: County/state: Same Case No. (if none): Same 2. CHILD CUSTODY VISITATION (PARENTING TIME) a. I request that the court make orders about the following children (specify): Child’s Name: Anthony Louis Capone Date of Birth: Legal Custody to (person who decides health, education, etc.): Mother Physical Custody to (person with whom child lives): Mother b. The orders I request for child custody and visitation (parenting time) are: (2) As follows (specify): Pursuant to the 5 Year Restraining Order protecting myself and the minor child, I have temporary sole legal and sole physical custody. Father has no visitation. I am requesting that this become an permanent order given Father’s lack of involvement and lack of contact with the minor child for over 10 months. c. The orders that I request are in the best interest of the

children because (specify): Father has not seen the minor child since July 2018. He has been in and out of jail and has put no effort into exercise supervised visits when he had them. He now has no visitation per the order made by Judge Pegg on 4/30/19. 7. DOMESTICE VIOLENCE ORDER a. The Restraining Order After hearing (form DV-130) was filed on (date): 5/2/19. 8. OTHER ORDERS REQUESTED (specify): Change the minor child’s surname from Anthony Louis Capone to Anthony Louis Chu. 10. FACTS TO SUPPORT the orders I request are below. The facts that I write in support and attach to this request cannot be longer than 10 pages, unless the court gives me permission. See Attached Declaration Date: 05/10/2019 Samantha Chu /s/ Samantha Chu ATTACHMENT 10: FACTS TO SUPPORT DECLARATION IN SUPPORT OF MOTHER’S REQUEST PETITIONER: Michael Capone RESPONDENT: Samantha Chu CASE NO.: 18CP000502 I. STATUS QUO/PROCEDURAL POSTURE 1. Petitioner, Michael Capone (hereinafter “Father”) and I dated for a few years and were never married. We have one minor child together, Anthony Louis Capone, (DOB 06/12/18). We separated shortly after Anthony was born in July, we both filed Petitions to Establish Parentage. I also filed a DVTRO on July 16, 2018 which was granted and has been in effect ever since. 2. At the initial hearing on my DVTRO on August 10, 2018, Father was provided with supervised visitation 2 times per week for up to 2 hours. Father never exercised any visitation. 3. After numerous violations of the DVTRO, Father was arrested and was in custody from sometime in October 2018 until approximately April 19, 2019. To my knowledge, he pled guilty to the charges involved with the restraining order case and a 5-year criminal protective order was issued with me as the protected party. It has been 10 months since Father has seen our son. 4. On April30, 2019, trial on my DVRO request was held. Father failed to attend despite having been present when trial was set, and I was granted 5-year Restraining Order. Our son is a protected party and, due to Father’s history, no visitation is currently ordered. II. REQUESTED ORDERS: 1. I am requesting to change our son’s name from Anthony Louis Capone to Anthony Louis Chu. 2. I am requesting permanent sole legal and sole physical custody with no visitation to Father. III. SIGNIFICANCE OF SURNAME 1. When our son was born, I had concerns about not including my surname in our son’s legal name. I felt pressured by Father to use the name Capone and to use

JUL 05 - JUL 11, 2019 Father’s middle name, Louis. Given Father’s history of anger and abusive behavior, I did not feel as though I had a say. 2. Now that Father and I are no longer together and his actions over the past 10 months demonstrate that he is mot committed to providing for our son or having a relationship with him, I would like our son’s name to include my surname so that he more closely identifies with me and the bond we have created. 3. While my hope is that Father can better himself and be a Father figure to our son, that is simply not the case, and I believe my son’s strong bond with me should be reflected in his name. Given that our son is solely in my care, I would like him to grow up sharing my name as well. Further, I believe keeping Anthony’s middle name the same as Father’s middle name continues to keep that bond with Father if at some point down the road, the Father-son relationship can be repaired and the two of them can be reunified. IV. PERMANENT CUSTODY AND VISITATION SHOULD BE ORDERED. 1. Our son will be one year old in June. Father has not seen our son since he was less that 1 month old. It is due to Father’s own actions that he was in jail for many months. At the DVRO hearing on April 30, 2019, I was granted temporary sole legal and sole physical custody of our son and no visitation was granted to Father. The Court made a Family Code section 3044 finding and Father was ordered to participate in Parenting without Violence class (or 52 week batterers intervention program if ordered as a condition of his Criminal case). Father has a lot of work to do to be able to reconnect with our very young son. I would like to be able to move on with my life and be able to obtain a parentage Judgment with long term orders. I don not have the money to keep fighting with him in Court over many years. 2. I am requesting permanent sole legal and sole physical custody of our minor child. I am also requesting no visitation for Father until he can show a change in circumstance such that implementing visitation would be appropriate. V. CONCLUSION Based on the above, I respectfully request that the Court grant my request to change our son’s surname to Anthony Louise Chu and a permanent order on custody/visitation so that I can finalize this aspect of my case. Date: 5/10/2019 /s/ Samantha Chu July 5, 12, 19 and 26, 2019 CITATION TO PARENT Superior Court of California County of Santa Clara Case No. 18AD024948 In the Matter of the Adoption Petition Of JOSE LUIS QUINTERO AHUMADA, Adopting Parent FROM: THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA TO: JESUS CANDELARIO

BELTRAN By order of this court you are hereby advised that you May appear before the Hon. Lori Pegg, Judge presiding in Department of the court located at 201 N. 1st St., San Jose, CA 95113, on August 12, 2019, at 10:30 A.M., then and there to show cause, if any you have, why GLORIA BERENICE BELTRAN should not be declared free from your parental Control and custody for the purpose of freeing GLORIA BERENICE BELTRAN for placement for adoption. The following information concerns rights and procedures that relate to this proceeding to declare minor free from your parental control and custody as set forth in Family Code Section 7860 et. Seq.: 1. At the beginning of the proceeding the court will consider whether or not the interest of the minor child requires the appointment of counsel. If the court finds that the interests of the minor do require such protection, the court will appoint counsel. The minor will not be present in court unless he requests or the court so orders. 2. If a parent of the minor appears without counsel and is unable to afford counsel, the court must appoint counsel for the parent, unless the parent knowingly and intelligently waives the right to be represented by counsel. The court will not appoint the same counsel to represent both the minor and his parent. 3. The court may appoint either the public defender or private counsel. If private counsel is appointed, he or she will receive reasonable sum for compensation and expenses, the amount of which will be determined by the court. That amount must be paid by the real parties in interest, but not by the minor, in such proportions as the court believes to be just. If, however, the court finds that any of the real parties in interest cannot afford counsel the amount will be paid by the county. 4. The court may continue the proceeding for not more than thirty (30) days as necessary to appoint counsel to become acquainted with the case. Date: June 13, 2019 /s/ A. in support and attach to this request cannot be longer that 10 pages, unless the court give me permission. Attachment 10. (See Attachment 10) Date: April 25, 2019 Silvia Velasquez Salguero /s/ Silvia Velasquez Salguero Short Title: Velasquez v. Salazar ATTACHMENT 10 TO FL-300 Facts to Support Requested Orders CASE NO: FLIN1901507 PETITIONER: Silvia Velasquez Salguero RESPONDENT: Angel Salazar Martinez MC-025 Attachment (Number): 2.c. and Attachment 10 My name is Silvia Velasquez Salguero. I am the mother of Ivan Salazar Velasquez and if called to court and were sworn under oath, I would testify to the truth of the facts obtained in this declaration. I make all statements based on my personal knowledge and belief. I am a citizen from Guatemala and married the respondent in this case, Angel Salazar Martinez in the year 2000, though we started our relationship in 1996 and had our first child in 1997. I was a victim if domestic violence during that relationship and I separated from my child’s father and went to live my mother briefly when my youngest son as on a few months old. I then decided to move to the United States and left my two sons with my mother. Eventually my mother became ill and could not care for the child, so he was sent to live with his father, Mr. Salazar Martinez. I provided financial support for both of my sons during all the years that I have been apart from them and called them almost everyday. Mr. Salazar Martinez has gone on to have several relationships and had several children with other women. Due to the difficulty of raising and supporting so many children, especially young me who could easily be recruited by dangerous gangs, he decided to send my sons to live with me in the United States. I did not agree on my child coming because it was very dangerous, but he sent him anyway. In early September 2016, respondent paid a smuggler to guide my son to the United States. He was not accompanied by any close family members. The child was placed in grave harm on a long journey to the United States. My child was detained by immigration at the border and eventually released to my care. Since he has been here, he has been healthy, and going to school regularly without fear of being harmed by gangmembers. His father kept in touch initially, but since September 2018 he has not been in contact. My eldest son was detained by immigration in July 2018 and by the time he was returned to Guatemala in October 2018, he learned his father had left to the United States. My eldest son spoke to his

grandmother and the only information she provided is that he is living somewhere near San Francisco California. I believe that he doesn’t want his mother to tell us where he is staying because he is afraid that I will ask him for financial support now that he is here. Since his father has not reached out to him to visit or provide support, and because Guatemala is such a dangerous place to live in at this time, it is in the best interest of my child that he be placed under my legal and physical custody at this time. CONFIDENTIAL REQUEST FOR SPECIAL IMMIGRANT JUVENILE FINDINGS- FAMILY LAW FL-358 PETITIONER: Silvia Velasquez Salguero RESPONDENT: Angel Salazar Martinez Case No. FLIN1901507 1. LGBT COMMUNITY DEMANDS ITS RIGHTS WITH MASSIVE MEXICO CITY MARCH EFE

Leon, Baja California and Puebla accept marriage equality by order of the Supreme Court.

M

exico City - The Mexican LGBT community showed this Saturday how much it has advanced in demanding its rights with a huge march in the capital of a country where hate crimes against its members persist.

But though progress has been made, violence against the LGBT community is far from finished, and Mexico has the second-largest number of homophobic hate crimes committed in Latin America after Brazil.

Waving the rainbow flags of sexual diversity, around 65,000 people, many wearing colorful disguises, set out in the early afternoon from the Angel of Independence monument to the Plaza de la Constitucion, known as the Zocalo, in downtown Mexico City.

The report "Extreme Violence: The Murders of LGBT People in Mexico," by the civil organization Letra S, shows that during the government of Enrique Peña Nieto from January 2013 to December 2018, the number of victims rose to 473. And since President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador took power on Dec. 1, 2018, 28 people of the LGBT community have been slain.

Attorney Antonio Ramirez told EFE that the demonstration aims to "proclaim the rights of everyone, of every human being, not just of gays." He thought the participation of different judicial associations supporting the march and raising "the gay flag, which represents sexual diversity internationally, tells us that little by little the community's rights are being recognized." Lucia, a 19-year-old student, said the progress made in recent years "is tremendous." "The marches get bigger all the time, with more people coming out to support them,"

the young woman said. As in other countries, the LGBTI Pride march commemorates the 50th anniversary of the clashes that followed police repression on June 28, 1969, at the Stonewall gay bar in New York City. The protests that followed are widely considered one of the founding events of

the movement defending gay rights in the United States and later in the entire world.

The attorney Ramirez told EFE that it is too early to evaluate the few months in office of the present government, but "during the last administration more states began to legislate in favor of securing equal rights for all."

Today the law in Mexico City and the states of Coahuila, Campeche, Chihuahua, Colima, Michoacan, Morelos, Nayarit, Hidalgo, Quintana Roo and Baja California Sur recognize same-sex marriages. Other states like Chiapas, Jalisco, Nuevo
