The current overcrowding of California State Prisons began when Governor Reagan closed mental health facilities. Today Los Angeles County Jail is the largest mental health therapy organization in the state, because that is where individuals with mental health disease get needed therapies. Advocates against ‘unusual punishment’ are winning their law suits. In fact, federal courts have ordered the State of California to relieve the present overcrowded state prisons by releasing 10,000 inmates. Some eight months ago, while asking the Federal Court to modify its court order, Governor Brown said, “We can’t pour more and more money down the rat hole of incarceration. We have to spend as much as we need, but no more, and I think we have hit that point.” Recently, Governor Brown indicated a willingness to spend hundreds of millions of dollars in the expansion of the existing California State Prison System. This indicates building more prison capacity which increases overhead and personnel expenses. The average cost of incarceration is $45,000 per year per inmate. Prison capacity for 10,000 inmates is very expensive. The incarceration of 10,000 inmates would be $450,000,000 per year. Prisoners are aging, so a prison hospital has been built, but not opened, because of staffing challenges. Therefore, alternatives must be used to reduce existing prison overcrowding. Why not plan to release to local jurisdictions the inmates who were sentenced

for minor offenses, and who are not sexual predators, violent, or drug addicts? The application by local probation departments of the latest personal monitoring devices, (such as ankle bracelets which allow electronic tracking) , permits transferred prisoners to be ‘paroled’ to his/her local community where he/she can perform community volunteer work, be home to do parenting of children, be a partner to a spouse or significant other, and undergo a variety of ‘wrap-around mental health services along with social behavior modification training. This can be done at a cost which is much less than the usual $45,000 per year per incarcerated prison inmate. Think of the differences: The released prisoner is kept in a community environment where he/she can continue to be part of the community and family. Reduction of the high social cost of incarceration can be reduced. Families are not broken up; parenting skills and parent-child relationships can be sustained; and low cost guarded prisoner monitoring can be 24/7/365 per year. The only ones benefiting from the current practice are members of the California Correctional Officers Associations. The positive social outcomes are maximized. Since 65% of all inmates are persons of color (Hispanics or African-Americans), it is no wonder that these communities experience the most disruption of families. The recent ‘Realignment Program’ which transferred certain inmates from state prisons to local county jails has been a successful ‘pilot project’ which forced local social workers, mental health personnel, probation officials, and county correctional officers to work in a collaborative manner. The assessment of each inmate ensured that he/she was a ‘non-violent’, non-drug addicted, and non-sexual offender. This
group of inmates are the ones who benefit the most by serving their sentences ‘at home’. These inmates must be medically and psychologically assessed to enable formation of a behavior modification plan. Current advances in the physiology of the human brain permit all sorts of improvements in behavior. The community outcomes are often quite positive and humane. Families learn to live and face the challenges together. The kids get to have their parent as a mentors and guides. A very important happening is that the training of a new criminal, whose criminal knowledge and skills are improved by associations in prison, is totally prevented when an inmate who has been sentenced for a minor criminal infraction is ‘kept out of prison”. Information already exists which supports the application of “therapy and rehabilitation’ approaches for needed behavior modifications. These programs require social workers, mental health specialists, pharmacologists, psychiatrists, psychologists, and others who end up being gainfully employed without the need for costly prisons. A competent probation officer can monitor up to 100 ‘realignment clients’ per month. Before California builds more prison capacity, other forms of custody, coupled with rehabilitation programs, must be considered. Innovative forms of ‘custody’ are less costly and feasible given today’s advancements in medications, understandings of the human brain, and IT technology. What is necessary is the expansion of capacity to provide local monitoring, along with programs for behavior assessment and modification. First expand those alternatives which achieve humane behavior modifications before expanding existing California State prison facilities.

Oakland CALIFORNIA The University of California launched Promise for Education, a six-week crowdfunding campaign that will bring together students, faculty, alumni, celebrities, influencers and supporters to raise money for UC student scholarships. The concept of Promise for Education is simple. Individuals make a personal promise – run a marathon, adopt a pet, volunteer, grow a beard – set a crowdfunding goal ($50, $100, $1,000 or more), then they share their promise through Facebook, email and other social media channels. Their friends are directed to PromiseforEducation.org, where donations can be made to see the promise fulfilled. All donations go directly to scholarships and grants for UC undergraduates with financial need. Finding creative new ways to increase private support for student scholarships has taken on increasing importance in recent years as state funding for UC has been dramatically cut. Promise for Education is the latest addition to the university’s Project You Can campaign, a systemwide effort to raise $1 billion for student support through 2014. To date, the campaign has raised more than $700 million. “As stewards of one of the world’s premier public university systems, we have a duty to make an excellent education accessible to all eligible Californians,” Daniel M. Dooley, UC systemwide senior vice president for external relations, said today during a discussion of the program at a UC Board of Regents meeting. “We’ve

established this program to ensure UC’s doors continue to remain open to the next generation’s leaders and to underscore the role we all play in helping young people achieve their aspirations and in advancing California’s culture of innovation and civic engagement.” To encourage participation and engage the public in the effort, celebrities and notables including Jamie Foxx, Gov. Jerry Brown, David Spade, Matt Barnes, Wilmer Valderrama, Gabrielle Union, Sasha Alexander, filmmaker Catherine Hardwicke, rapper and spoken word poet Watsky, lead singer of the iconic California band the Beach Boys Mike Love, and UC Regent, legendary producer, studio executive and philanthropist Sherry Lansing, are appearing in a public service announcement and/or creating promises. “Promise for Education is about championing a cause and committing to a goal, which is something the creative community values dearly,” said Jay Sures, a UCLA alumnus who is partner/board of directors at United Talent Agency and vice-chair of the Entertainment Industry Foundation, a charitable organization that collaborated on the campaign and helped rally the Hollywood community in support of UC. “By making a simple promise, together we can help deserving Californians pursue their goal of a world-class UC education and support our future leaders, entrepreneurs and innovators.” Promise for Education was created in partnership with noise, a creative agency focused on engaging 18- to
34-year-olds. Numerous sponsors are supporting Promise for Education, including Facebook, Bank of America, Spotify, and muzik, the creators of the world’s first SmartHeadPhone. “We are excited that Facebook can play a role in supporting an innovative program like Promise for Education,” said Libby Leffler, strategic partner manager, Facebook. “Millions of college students and alumni use Facebook every day. We’re thrilled that our platform provides the opportunity for supporters of Promise for Education to share their passion and commitment to the University of California.” “Helping low- and moderate-income students to become tomorrow’s leaders with a world-class UC education is a goal we all share,” said Janet Lamkin, Bank of America’s California president. “As an extension of our longstanding partnership with the University of California on business, agricultural, environmental and other programs, we’re proud to partner with the university on the Promise for Education campaign.” The dollars raised by Promise for Education will provide direct financial aid scholarships to undergraduate students from California who have a demonstrated financial need and will be in addition to dollars students receive through UC’s traditional financial aid programs. BUSINESS
(BPT) More and more, Millennials are on the road for work. In an average month, one in four business-traveling Millennials travel overnight for work at least once per week. As the line between “personal” and “business” grows thinner and thinner for this generation, Millennials are increasingly finding adventure through business. More than any other group, Millennial business travelers are more likely to add on extra days to their business trip for leisure travel (84 percent) according to the Hilton Garden Inn Discovery and Connection Survey. Millennials are funding these adventures through their business trips, too. The vast majority of this group (85 percent) is more likely to use reward points from their business travel to book a vacation, compared to a year ago.
EL OBSERVADOR | www.el-observador.com
As the economy improves, business travel across the nation is on the rise. According to the Global Business Travel Association, U.S. business travel is expected to grow 5.1 percent in 2013. As more Millennials hit the road for work, they are keeping top of mind a few, simple business travel perks to fulfill their appetite for personal adventure and discovery: * Fly for free - Those flying for business can earn airline miles in their name. These business miles quickly add up, allowing travelers to upgrade seats or add another destination without accruing additional cost. Business travelers can then use these miles to bring a friend or loved one on the trip with them - quickly transitioning from business to family vacation or romantic getaway once the weekend hits. * Earn hotel perks - Frequent stays in hotels offering
rewards programs can grant business travelers benefits like free overnight stays, late checkout, and complimentary breakfast. These extras turn a business trip into much more, especially when additional nights are used to extend a business trip into a vacation. Some hotels have seasonal programs, such as Hilton Garden Inn and Hilton HHonors Triple Your Trip promotion, which offers guests around the world the opportunity to earn double or triple HHonors’ points while enjoying the signature Hilton Garden Inn Bed n’ Breakfast deal that includes breakfast for each adult staying in the same room, and free meals for kids 12 and under. * Discover local hidden gems - Cities often encourage business travelers to experience the local culture while in town and provide pack-

age deals with discounts to restaurants, tickets to local shows or events, helpful tips to find transportation in the city and even sightseeing opportunities to explore during free time. This becomes even more common when a city is hosting a large business gathering, such as an industry convention. Millennials continue to be at the forefront of achieving work-life balance - utilizing business travel to discover new cities, explore local cultures, taste authentic cuisines and connect with new people across the country and around the globe.

AMERICAN COUNSELING ASSOCIATION While there has been growing attention in recent years to issues such as underage drinking, college binge drinking and drunk driving incidents, for many of us there may be real issues related to alcohol consumption that are more personal and closer to home. Yet most of us have little awareness of the signs that point to problem drinking, or what to do when such signs begin to appear. Problem drinking, even when it doesn’t involve driving incidents (though, unfortunately, it often does), can affect family life, work performance and a variety of other important personal relationships. It can be a major factor that leads to divorce or even life-threatening incidents. How to tell if alcohol has become a problem for you? It isn’t always an easy question to answer if you consider yourself just a social drinker.
But try asking yourself the following questions: -Have you ever awoken in the morning and found you can’t remember parts of the previous evening? -Have people close to you complained about your drinking? -Do you find it difficult to stop after one or two drinks? -Have you lost friends because of your drinking? -Has drinking begun to cause problems between you and your family? -Has alcohol gotten you into trouble at work or school? -Do you get into physical fights when you drink? -Have you lost a job because of drinking? -Has drinking caused you to neglect family, work or other obligations? -Have you heard voices or seen things not really there after heavy drinking?
A “yes” answer to any of these questions is a clear indication that you should seek a professional evaluation. A professional counselor can provide such an evaluation. Many counselors specialize in assessing and treating problem drinking. Your local mental health center or hospital should be able to provide a list of such counselors. Or check your local yellow pages or online for professional counselors certified in addiction counseling. It can be a big and difficult step to recognize that you may have a drinking problem. And it takes strength to take action to deal with the problem. When problem drinking is recognized early, and professional assistance is sought, it can usually be treated successfully. But when problem drinking is ignored, the outcome is almost always going to be the painful consequences that come with excessive drinking.

Promueve cultura a través del baile y la música Promoting cultura through dance and music
Cinthia Rodriguez EL OBSERVADOR Opera Cultura, the Latino opera company that brought the production of “La Llorona” to San Jose, is getting ready to welcome audiences at the Mexican Heritage Theater for ‘Zarzuela and Beyond’ at 7:30pm on September 28, 2013. ‘Zarzuela and Beyond’ is a concert to highlight the great music by Spanish speaking composers. They will be presenting excerpts of Spanish operas from the late nineteenth century and the early 20th century. In addition, there will be new and original work by Opera Cultura’s very own artistic director, Hector Armienta. “They can expect to feel that pulsating rhythm and they can expect to be exposed to other kinds of Spanish and Latino musical influences. To be excited and exhilarated,” said composer Hector Armienta. “There is a culture that they are a part of.” The production will feature soprano Alexandra Sessler, who will sing music from Spanish operas. It will also include world famous flamenco dancer La Tania. Armienta will accompany them both. At one point they
will all share the stage to perform “Zapatiado,” where Sessler will sing, La Tania will dance and Armienta will play the piano. All three artists have been working on the production for more than half a year. Sessler and Armienta have been fundraising and performing some of the Zarzuela repertoire. The process also included watching La Tania dance. She will perform a piece titled “La Mujer Tormentada,” where Armienta will try to imitate the rhytms of flamenco. During the last few rehearsals they’ve been working on synchronicity. “It’s a very exciting process,” said Armienta. “Especially for those Spanish speakers to be able to hear it in their own language and being captivated by these beautiful arias.” As explained by Armienta, zarzuelas are part of a legacy, and part of the history, of opera music that’s written in Spanish. This music is not just from Spain; it’s also from Cuba and South America. The intended audience will have that connection. It will be their stories being performed. There are very few companies that present Spanish music or Latino music. With that in mind, Opera Cultura
wants to be known for presenting work by Latino and Hispanic composers. It was created to provide a forum for other Latino composers like Armienta to have their work on stage, which is not always available.
The opera company is planning a zarzuela festival for 2014. They are also working on a full-length opera called “El Gato Montes.” They have acquired the rights to develop “Bless me Ultima” into an opera and are working on ‘Tales of Pilgrimage’.
‘Tales of Pilgrimage’ is a collaboration between Opera Cultura, School of the Arts and Culture at MHP, Teatro Campesino, and Father Jon Pedigo of Our Lady of Guadalupe. That production will take stories from the residents of East San Jose on issues like immigration, violence, poverty, and aspirations to becoming us citizens. The final product will include an opera and a march to the plaza to commemorate Cesar Chavez on March 29 & 30, 2014. The participants will get to see the opera.
Tickets to ‘Zarzuelas and Beyond’ and be purchased online at www.operacultura.org or for more information call 1-800-838-3006.

San Jose CALIFORNIA At a time of increasing demand for public services and limited resources, it is important for all levels of government to consider innovative ways to become more effective and efficient. The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) and the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) District 4 are breaking new ground with an unconventional solution to accelerate the project delivery process to deliver benefits to the public more quickly and cost effectively. VTA and Caltrans have executed an agreement to establish a new business model called the Innovative Delivery Team (iTeam) Demonstration Program. The iTeam is intended to create an environment to reinvent how highway projects are delivered in Santa Clara County. “Successful partnerships create successful public transportation projects,” said Caltrans Director Malcolm Dougherty. “By increasing communication, sharing resources, and partnering closely with local agencies like the VTA, we can overcome obstacles and deliver much-needed projects faster.” The iTeam presents the opportunity for VTA and Caltrans to innovatively think and test out ideas for more streamlined decision-mak-
said Michael T. Burns, VTA General Manager. “This allows more projects to be built with the same amount of money and the public to realize project benefits sooner, such as reduced congestion, increased mobility and enhanced safety.”
ing, improved processes and communication, better use of new technologies, and enhanced training. One key feature of the program is that it will prioritize staff resources locally by having a core group of experienced Caltrans employees co-located at VTA’s offices in San Jose instead of at Caltrans Headquarters in Oakland some 40 miles away. This will facilitate both organizations to work side by side and provide a stronger focus on local roadway projects in the 15 cities and the county. The new model will speed up work processes and approvals to move project development forward more efficiently. “Building upon our already close working partnership with Caltrans to plan, design, and, in some cases, construct highway improvements, we expect that the iTeam Demonstration will get us to a point where we are delivering projects in half the time,”
Assembly member Rich Gordon was key to the success of the iTeam Demonstration Program, authoring legislation to facilitate the effort. “I am delighted that Caltrans and VTA are partnering to implement the iTeam. This new agreement will dramatically improve coordination between the state and local transportation partners in Santa Clara County. It will ensure enhanced training and support of local agency staff, improve quality control, and ensure projects here are completed faster and cheaper,” said Gordon. “As our transportation needs continue to outpace reduced state and federal revenues, we can expect our region’s infrastructure will increasingly rely on locally generated transportation funds. This agreement between VTA and Caltrans is yet another example of Silicon Valley forward thinking, and represents an innovative government approach to addressing modern transportation problems. I am proud to have worked with both sides to help make this a reality.”

Roddy Scheer & Doug Moss EARTHTALK Research indicates that, indeed, Americans girls and boys are going through puberty earlier than ever, though the reasons are unclear. Many believe our widespread exposure to synthetic chemicals is at least partly to blame, but it’s hard to pinpoint exactly why our bodies react in certain ways to various environmental stimuli. Researchers first noticed the earlier onset of puberty in the late 1990s, and recent studies confirm the mysterious public health trend. A 2012 analysis by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found that American girls, exposed to high levels of common household chemicals, had their first periods seven months earlier than those with lower exposures. “This study adds to the growing body of scientific research that exposure to environmental chemicals may be associated with early puberty,” says Danielle Buttke, a researcher at CDC and lead author on the study. Buttke found that the age when a girl has her first period (menarche) has fallen over the past century from an average of age 16-17 to age 12-13.
Earlier puberty isn’t just for girls. In 2012 researchers from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) surveyed data on 4,100 boys from 144 pediatric practices in 41 states and found a similar trend: American boys are reaching puberty six months to two years earlier than just a few decades ago. AfricanAmerican boys are starting the earliest, at around age nine, while Caucasian and Hispanics start on average at age 10. One culprit could be rising obesity rates. Researchers believe that puberty (at least for girls) may be triggered in part by the body building up sufficient reserves of fat tissue, signaling fitness for reproductive capabilities. Clinical pediatrician Robert Lustig of Benioff Children’s Hospital in San Francisco reports that obese girls have higher levels of the hormone leptin which, in and of itself, can lead to early puberty while setting off a domino effect of more weight gain and faster overall physical maturation. Some evidence suggests that “hormone disrupting” chemicals may also trigger changes prematurely. Public health advocates have been concerned, for example,
about the omnipresence of Bisphenol A (BPA), a synthetic chemical in some plastics, because it is thought to “mimic” estrogen in the body and in some cases contribute to, or cause, health problems. BPA is being phased out of many consumer items, but hundreds of other potentially hormone disrupting chemicals are still in widespread use. Dichlorobenzene, used in some mothballs and in solid blocks of toilet bowl and air deodorizers, is also a key suspect in triggering early puberty. It is already classified as a possible human carcinogen, and studies have linked prenatal exposure to it with low birth weight in boys. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recently made screening Dichlorobenzene for hormonal effects a priority. Parents can take steps to reduce our kids’ so-called “toxic burden”: Buy organic produce, hormone- and antibiotic-free meat and dairy and all-natural household cleaners. And keep the dialogue going about healthy food and lifestyle habits so kids learn how to make responsible, healthy choices for themselves.

“Most dieters are using outdated or inefficient methods to reach their goals,” says Dian Griesel, Ph.D., coauthor of “TurboCharged: Accelerate Your Fat Burning Metabolism, Get Lean Fast and Leave Diet and Exercise Rules in the Dust.” Dian Griesel, and co-author Tom Griesel, are attempting to debunk the myths many people believe about weight loss. “Many dieters see slow results due to bad practices rooted in misguided belief,” says Tom Griesel. “But if you get the basics right, rapid fat loss is not difficult to achieve and you will see your body transform much more quickly.” If you are not satisfied with your results, the writing duo is offering five suggestions for why you may not be losing fat fast enough: • Wrong goal: If your goal is an arbitrary number based on your scale, you are already setting yourself up to fail. Scale weight doesn’t tell you anything about your actual body composition -how much fat you have and how much you’re losing. Your scale weight could fluctuate for several reasons, such as hydration level, water weight or muscle loss. Setting the right goal and monitoring changes in your body composition is the first key to success. • Water retention: Proper hydration is critical to fat loss and overall health. However,
PHOTO SOURCE: (c) Pressmaster - Fotolia.com too little or too much water can cause problems. Water intake requirements are influenced by several factors, like weight and activity levels. A good starting point is to consume 1/2 ounce of water per pound of current body weight. Drink at least 16 ounces first thing in the morning -- pure water is best -- and more if you are thirsty. • Too much exercise: Excessive exercise creates stress and can be counterproductive when you’re restricting calories, causing loss of muscle mass. Low-intensity activities like walking -- along with minimal strength training to retain muscle mass -- is all that’s needed. • Too much of the wrong thing: Diet is the most efficient way to create a caloric restriction, maintain blood
sugar levels, which are conducive to fat loss, and provide all the nutrients you need for optimal health. If you’re not seeing positive changes in body composition, the problem is almost always your diet. • Stress and lack of sleep: Chronic stress can have an adverse effect on hormonal balance, which can hinder fat loss and cause loss of essential lean body mass. Stress and lack of sleep disrupt many delicate physiological functions. Regularly practicing some method of relaxation and getting seven to nine hours of sleep every night will make a big difference in your fat loss efforts. Don’t ditch your diet before seeing the results you want. By working smarter, not harder, you can achieve your goals before losing motivation.

‘Rock the Bells’ music festival. The event took place at Mountain View’s Shoreline Amphitheater, where thousands of music fans donned street wear and smiles as they jumped around, bobbed their heads, and drank free Monster Energy Drink to the

groovy tunes of their favorite rap artists. The event brought more than 50 of the best performers of the past, present and future of the genre and mixed them through out the two day festival, providing a very
diverse fan base of many ages and ethnicities. The headliners of the event included Kid Cudi, Wu-Tang Clan, the A$AP Mob, and Kendrick Lamar among many others. Saturday’s show included 26 different acts, ranging from Grammy award winners Common, Bone ThugsN-Harmony, and Kid Cudi to up and coming artists such as Flatbush Zombies, Tyler the Creator, and A$AP Mob. Most of these newer hip hop artists are referred to as “alternative”, because their music tends to have influences gathered from those born into the “internet age” and the access to a nearly unlimited amount of types of music online. Older Hip-Hop tends to rely on soul, funk and even country music samples and rhythm sections from vinyl, as opposed to digital music and electronica. The array of differences is what makes the ‘Rock the Bells’ festival inviting to younger crowds as well as the established fans who have been attending the show since its inception in 2004. Now in its 10th year, Rock the Bells has evolved from a classic Hip-Hop music festival to a “Coachella of Rap”, condensing 34 years of the genres existence into a day or two of festivities mixed in with lifestyle clothing companies, tech companies unveiling their newest tech-
nologies (usually music related) and various food trucks feeding the hungry crowds. The tech aspect of the festival allows its own app, used to personalize ones experience, and take video, pictures and upload them to the festivals server, creating a mosaic of data and experiences into an online memory of the festival. It’s a way to forever encapsulate the thousands of shared experiences into one locale. Musically, main attractions were something to behold. This was the meat of the two day shows, each showcasing the top tiers of Hip Hop of today and yesterday. Kid Cudi, a half African-American, half Mexican rapper/actor/producer, singlehandedly took the crowd soaring through his eclectic catalogue of music, which began in 2008 with his free and critically acclaimed debut “A Kid Named Cudi”. His charismatic performance was only energized by the crowds’ volumes and praise. His visually striking set, unlike other acts which featured little to no personal touches on the stage, (which isn’t to say their performances weren’t spectacular on their own), was of a moonlike terrain complete with fake space rocks, (which were many times kicked around the stage), light effects, and a centerpiece which was a cave that bore Cudi’s logo. The themes of many of his
albums are of personal reflection as well as an ongoing storyline of a man on the moon. So, in this case, the space theme really worked to this effect. Sunday’s final performance by the Wu-Tang Clan was also filled with ludicrous energy by the legendary 9-person rap group from Staten Island New York. One member, Ol’ Dirty Bastard (ODB) came in hologram form; his death in 2004 prompted the groups’ hiatus from the spotlight. After years of solo work and a few albums, they decided to perform with their lost member through the use of hologram technology. Members Method Man and The RZA spoke to the crowd, instructing them to use the lights of their cell phones. Technology, they said, would help to bring back their friend ODB. After thousands of bright little lights illuminated the darkened amphitheater, ODB appeared in the middle of the stage. The awe inspiring use of technology and music allowed the 8 living members of the group to perform with the entire WuTang Clan. This “gimmick” revitalized the crowd’s energy and moved the employees, photographers, and journalists at the event. It was something that brought a very wonderful close to Sunday night’s ‘Rock the Bells’ performance. Here’s to seeing what 2014 brings.

(NAPS) In addition to planning for their own retirement, many baby boomers are facing the challenge of caring for their parents or other family member. Assessing when someone needs more than just an occasional visit to see how he or she is doing is not always easy. Here are some questions that may help you determine if your loved ones are in need of care.

•Have they started to miss appointments? •Is their house dirty or cluttered or is laundry piling up? •Is there spoiled food in the fridge or expired food in cabinets? •Have they lost weight or are there any other signs of a poor diet? •Are they showing a decreased ability to keep up with chores, shopping and errands? •Are they forgetting to take medication or taking more than prescribed?
•Have they let their grooming slip?
Two Types Of Home Care Once you have determined that your loved one needs more professional care on a more consistent basis, the question becomes, ‘What kind of care?’ Experts contend that there are basically two types of home care. There’s care provided by paid health care
professionals who are state licensed, work per the orders of a physician and can deliver medical care in the home. This includes care delivered by nurses, physical therapists or social workers. The second type of care in?cludes that delivered by aides, homemakers and companions who are there to help with nonmedical daily activities so a senior can stay at home, independently, for as long as possible. Many seniors can benefit from this
