Quintessence Defined Quintessence is a bridge. It documents why thousands of students have walked through the Main Doors at Hillcrest, leaving family and friends on the Front Steps, as students look for different type of training in high school. The word quintessence comes from the Greeks. It speaks to the fundamental elements in the universe. Greek philosophers believed there were five essential elements in the universe: fire, wind, water, air, and ether. The word quintessence sums up the five essential elements. The Quintessence publication speaks to the essential elements at Hillcrest. We define these elements as faith, friends, mission, academics, and athletics. Faith is identified as the spiritual disciplines we practice together. Quiet times, prayer days, worship services, and devotions will mark this section. Friends are a hallmark experience at Hillcrest. This section will mark some of the activities and experiences we have that unite us as a school.
Mission speaks to how students are prepared for a life of communicating Christ. Many times this includes how we unite other nations and speak of Christ with each other. The Academic section will show that Hillcrest is more than just weekend activities. We really believe that as we’re in the classroom we are actively studying God’s world. The Academic section will reveal this. Athletics are an unique and fun part of the Hillcrest experience. We are all Comets. This section will show how we have unity and excitement in encouraging our friends to do their best. The Journalism Class created this instagram-like publication to document the first few weeks at Hillcrest. In the coming months they will practice more writing disciplines. In the future the group will expand their writing to feature articles and student profiles. We are excited to document the 2015-16 school year for you, and invite you to journey with our class in their education in journalism.
