“Socially constructed the space in which we experience public life in cities. The right to be in these spaces, to use them in certain ways, to invest them with a sense of ourselves and our communities” __ZUKIN,1995
SEASONAL MARKET AND URBAN PUBLIC SQUARE ABOUT THE PROJECT A public space is collage of multiple activities. Since ages, these public squares have been a means of public gathering and social interactions. A public square is well constituted with different activities along with locally driven markets which are integral part of the square. The markets have always served as the centres for trade and economy. This locally driven markets serve as the icon of the city's culture. Ahmedabad blends together harmoniously with its ancient heritage and its vibrant present. The city's prosperous and eventful past and present is embodied in its rich kaleidoscopic of history, art and culture, rich architecture, and imposing monument.
LOCATION With the fast-growing city and rapid development, these locally driven markets have started losing their importance. This has greatly affected the local vendors, artisans, and the craftsmen. “THE SEASONAL MARKET AND URBAN PUBLIC SQUARE" along the banks of River Sabarmati is an attempt to rethink on the concept of a public space by studying different public places, markets etc. the thesis attempts to promote the local vendors, artisans, and craftsmen and to provide a unique experience to the people of Ahmedabad by analysing the site, its contexts, the users, and the vendors to design a successful public space. The thesis also lays emphasis to reflect the culture of the city through its Architecture.
SITE
The site is located at the eastern banks of sabarmati river front of ahmedabad city, having the context of old walled city and the pedestrian bridge connecting the new city and the old city.
SITE The site is surrounded by such complex cluster has a strong tendency to be converted into public space, also institutional context that gives the site a cultural importance. The land use pattern around the site shows that the site is surrounded by 75% residential and rest 25% with commercial, institutional and religious buildings
SITE DESCRIPTION
GOVERNMENT PROPOSAL ISSUES OF THE CURRENT SITE PLAN :
Site A The site is a development land proposed by the government. This land will be auctioned to the builders to make commercial structure. Site Area : 16,548 Sq. m /4.08 acres. Proposal: To set up a commercial structure with contemporary market linked withGujeri market.
Site B The land is proposed to form a exhibition space. This land is todeveloped by the government itself Site Area: 36,304 Sq. m . Proposal : To setup a recreational facility along with temporary exhibition center and landscape which blends with the commercial development.
Site C • The Gujeri market (Sunday Market a.k.a. Raviwari)
Sie t Planning: • The site is divided into two parts which are on different levels where the lower level is assigned to the Sunday Market, while the higher level is the land provided for development. • The Level difference creates visual obstruction between the two spaces. so, there is no interaction between the spaces. • No Multi-functionality :The sunday market asits name is only active on sundays but due to no other multi functional activities remain dysfunctional during the other 6 days • Future Proposal Fo r the commercial Development : The site is proposed with a 25 floor busine ss and commercial center. The site located in the east Ahmedabad has a heritage importance attached to it. the building will over shadow the existing context .

Food plaza: this is a major requirment as the site loops with different activity, the space for a pause is required for the people. ii. Live performance: any active public space gets live due to the liv e counters or performances , may It be mus ic, DanceDrama , etc.
WHAT TOPIC EXPLAINS? iii. Traditional Mart :Traditon : i is a important part to the city, so things associated with it has a huge importance like cloths, footware s ,jewellery, crafts, earth work etc. with constantly growing malls full of brands and contemporary stuff, there is a need to develop a mart which is locally driven and has atradit ional touch. iv. Seasonal Mart: This would be a sort of walk-in mart which would change as per seasons and could be booked by different vendors for monthly duration. v. Recreational Facility: Keeping every age group in mind, there is a requirement of a recreational space which works well for all age group.

3. FINAL OUTPUT
• Roof as an element of merging both market and public square. • Application of folded roof.
2. VISUAL CONNECTIVITY
DESIGN OBJECTIVE •Easy access to all the spaces in the site. •Social and interactive environment. •Visual connectivity between road and market place. •To design market place such that it can merge with the public square. •To provide public spaces at the higher level than that of roads and market, to have an fabulous experience with the nature.
• Level of seasonal market and public spaces both given equal importance. • Tried to maintain visual connectivity between road and river front.
• Keeping in mind the free sociability and access as the key points of public spaces here i tried to merge both the spaces and made easy accessibility in all possible ways. • This option completes all my design assumptions in terms of light, accessibility, sociability and visual connectivity.

MASSING EVOLUTION
VERTICAL LIVING The studio explored the topology of high-rise buildings as a premise for mainstream housing development for future. The design approach intervened to generate livability in vertical blocks. With growing development coupled with shortage of land, developer-driven housing purely delivers isolated apartment towers having stacked floors in every part of the city, excessively consuming our urban experience and spaces. By analyzing the existing conditions, students observed manners in which conventional high-rise blocks have very little to do with how different profiles of people living together, apart from their The focus was to work towards design solutions that can be part of mainstream high-rise developments to create living spaces that boost physical and mental well-being, and allow integration without sacrificing privacy. Also, to address the need of vertical community living environment that caters to changing social, economic, technological and environmental dynamics and shifts. Throughout the studio unit, the dimensions of professional practice were employed as a methodology to conduct individual work while applying the aspects of real world design practice in

COMMUNITY HOUSING LOCATION Hodka village is located in the district of Kutch in the state of Gujarat in India. It lies at the distance of 63 km from Bhuj. The name Hodka is derived from the gujarati word ‘Hodi’ which means boat. Hodka is first believed to have inhabited around 300 years ago by the Halepotra clan. Tourists are recommended to take the overnight camel safaris, the most famous attraction in the village. The village is slowly becoming hot as the rural tourism destination. The colourful attire of the people, rich art and craft and strong cultural background of the village is what enchants the tourists.`
INTRODUCTION The structure and pattern of houses in the village never fail to impress the visitors. The people of Hodka village use dung and natural dyes in the earth tones to decorate their houses. All the houses are nicely decorated and finely painted. The village is quite famous for the leather work.
PROGRAMME To design a community housing for the people living in the Hodka village of Kutch, Gujarat. The design should be done in accordance with the climate beliefs. Occupation and the context of Kutch.
A site of 10.000sq.m was introduced near the water body present in the village. Ii should be designed in sucl1a way that it can be divided into more than one clusters and gathering space housing unit should include at least one bhunga; "o circular house form with conical roof."ond a pakka house using locally available materials. Each unit includes two bhunga houses and two pakka houses. Pakka houses are the combination of rectangular and circular forms. Pergolas were designed between the two pakka houses so that the ladies can use the semi open working space and can also enjoy the shadow of pargolas.
DWELLING A Main occupation is leather work; i.e: making leather shoes, chappel and decorative leather purses. DWELLING B Main occupation is animal husbandary and agriculture. DWELLING C Main occupation is camel safari and tourist guide.
ANALYSIS OF SETTLEMENT-
BHUNGA AND PAKKA HOUSES
Hodka village is believed to have been set up by the “holepotro” clan from sindh ho ere cattle herders in search of pastures. The meghuals traditional leather and embroidery handycrafts persons from further north have settled in hodka over time. Hodka is a village positioned in bhuj lock of kutch. The village has 399 homes. According to census 2011 hodka’s population is 2132 out of this . 1074 are males wile the females count 1058. Herewith the village has 472 children in the age group of 0-6 years. Literacy rate in hodka villagers is 2132. whereas 1547 are unemployed out of 585 working individual persons are entirely dependent agriculture.
Bhungas are single cylindrical structures put close to each other to form a house. In common terminology, Each Bhunga would be equivalent to a room in a house. The walls of Bhungas are very low. This helps the stability of the structure during earthquake. This is possible due to the conical shape of the roof of bhunga, which comes quite low at the periphery while still forming high ceiling near the central usable space. Roof of the bhunga is made out of thatch and is light weight. Lightweight roof is also very helpful against the lateral forces of the earthquake and causes less damage. Bhungas are independent circular structures and do not share common walls with any structures. Thus there is no impact of load of one structure on the other. WALL SECTION DETAIL

DESIGN CONCEPT Main idea behind the design was to create a locality which benefits them in all the possible ways and bring a change in their thinking without really changing their way of living and traditions. Gathering space is designed where people con celebrate festivals together and the space for the bazar also can be used as traditional amphitheater is designed near lake side to enjoy the peace and the beautiful nature. It can be directly accessible through bazar.

• Unutilized space has been enriched by vendors which does not look good and also sometimes create unnecessary traffic. • Lack of parking facilities which leads to on street parking. • Clogging and over lo wing of water on the roads.
The roads width accommodates different commercial activities. Easy accessibility to the road makes it prominent. The vacant plots and the loose fabric along the road can be redesigned to give a character to the street. Being one of the major artillery road, can facilitate major commercial buildings. The unutilized land can be created into a space for contemplation and combining the whole area into one which may even solve most of the problem like parking space and vendors.
WHY THIS SITE? This site gives us an opportunity to create a synergy between economy and residences, using the potential of area’s transportation network by providing job opportunities and affordable residential living for people working in nearby urban areas.
SITE EVOLUTION
ACTIVITY MAPPING
INSTITUTIONAL STUDIO LOCATION AND CONTEXT The site is located on the bank of Sabarmati river situated in the center of the Ahmedabad City of Gujarat state, India. It is well known for its architectural essence of a vast history. The Site forms the epicenter for the urban development and its heritage value. Basically site includes the fort wall forming the division boundary between the old and new city. This is a Contoured site and has a great contextual importan]
DESIGN BRIEF The program is to design an Performing Arts Center for physically disabled children in the heart of the city of Ahmedabad that building typology and see how it bends with the context.
ANALYSIS The site is 75M long and 50M wide one has a contoured slope of 3M from the front wall to the front. The site is open on all three sides :md is covered by brick fort all on the forth side (rear side). Just behind the old brick fort wall lives economically backward community who con easily access the because of the presence of a arched opening in the fort wall which is included in the boundaries of the site.
INSTITUTE
SITE PLAN
As the site is between the old and modern city of Ahmedabad and also the new developing area near the river fronts at the ban of Sabarmati river; I thought Ahmedabad has no institute of Performing Arts for physically disabled people. Hence this institute can also develop a strong bond between normal and disabled people.

DESIGN CONCEPT
MASSING AND SPACING
As wheelchair users need smooth and easy circulation and that is main point to be focused on ;hence I started working on the symbol of focus i.e; circular tubes, as it is in circular form through which Icon create a smooth and strong circulation path. Later, I realized that circular form becomes more compact according to the area of site give; for the functions to work with.Thereafter I chose the arched port of the circle which gave openness to the spaces. Metamorphism process was used in the final form by sliding the tubes. hence negative spaces were created on the eastern side of the site and then eastern side was flattened n sliding(stagering) was done only at one end of the arch.
The concept was to design a Performing Arts Center For Physically Disables.. Through which they can develop their personality as well as can bring out their talents and prove themselves. Faculties teaching here would also get an opportunity to teach performing arts to the people with disability and can help them to stand up high in the world. Normal People also can join this institute which will create a amazing bond between both the types of people .
Four arched tubes creates the main massing of the building. main high lighting design element of the building is a massive stone wall which gives the building a introvert space. only fourth tubes are added to the first fioor, which seems to be excluded outwards from through the stone wall which catches the whole attention on the front elevation. stone wall also represents the old brick fort wall with contrast material.
