At the present time the closest vaccine hub is at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital and Beerwah Surgery, Simpson Street, Beerwah. Queensland Health aims to give every eligible Queenslander the opportunity to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as soon as possible. These vaccines will be available in phases as are deemed people who are most at risk from the disease. . The groups are Phase 1a, Phase 1b, Phase 2a, Phase 2b and Phase 3. Who owns that road? HAVE you ever wondered if a particular road belongs to council or the State Government? Good news, the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) has added a new feature to their QLD Traf c website, 'Road Lookup' – visit qldtraf c.qld.gov.au/lookup to try it yourself.
New Traf c Signs on Postman’s Track, Conondale
I AM pleased to advise new signage has been successfully installed at Postmans Track, Conondale. The rst sign advises road users to turn around, as the route is not suitable for trucks, buses, caravans and trailers. The second sign advises road users it is a steep, winding, narrow climb. I am con dent they will positively impact driver behaviour at this location.
Pedal power needed
Another tip is that TMR generally controls roads which connect towns and often roads named after towns are TMR roads. The feeder roads are usually council controlled. When a TMR road is also the main street of a town, while the actual road is theirs, the car parks and pathways are usually maintained by council. I hope this helps you in identifying which organisation to contact should you need to report any issues. To report matters regarding council roads visit http://www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au where you can lodge an eRequest online or chat with a Customer Service Of cer using Council’s Live Chat.

Living with Flying Foxes For about two years now there has been a large ying fox colony living on the trees that border Obi Creek at the rear of Lawyer Street. This colony has an estimated 50 to 60 thousand ying foxes. The grey-headed ying fox is a megabat native to Australia. It is one of the largest bats in Australia with a wingspan of over 1 m. At night the Grey-headed Flyingfox searches for food and may travel 50 km to its feeding areas. It eats fruit from a range of native and introduced species, particularly gs, and for this reason it is sometimes called 'Fruit Bat'. Whilst ying foxes play an essential role in maintaining the health and variety of forests on the Sunshine Coast those who are living or working nearby to these native animals can be challenging. They are noisy, extremely smelly and we worry that they carry disease. Like all wild animals, Flying foxes may carry diseases,
but the risk of spreading those diseases to humans is extremely low. In fact, they pose no major health risks unless you are scratched or bitten by one. If you are bitten or scratched by a bat, wash the wound thoroughly, apply antiseptic and seek immediate medical advice about receiving injections to protect you against Australian bat lyssavirus. They cause a number of negative problems for those residents and workers. he problem will only get worse over time because development of residential areas for buildings is causing habitats to be destroyed forcing the ying foxes into residential areas. All ying fox species are protected in Queensland under the Nature Conservation Act 1994. Whilst the problems caused by the ying foxes are the responsibility of the Queensland Government. Any proposed management actions at Flying fox roosts must comply with the Queensland Government's Department of Environment and Heritage Protection but the state government has handed the
problem to local authorities and thus the Sunshine Coast Council is the lead role for roost management of this bat colony. The colony behind lawyer street have been living in this area for about two years. According to Sunshine Coast Council environment of cers these ying foxes are nomadic and whilst the colony may remain the individual bats move from colony to colony. Any attempt to relocate a bat colony can only be made when none of the bats are not pregnant or rearing small bats, thus the window to attempt to shit the bats is only from about April to June each year. The bat colony behind Lawyer Street is effecting a number of businesses and residents in a number of differing ways. Juan from Maleny Accident Repair Centre said that he is having serious problems with bat droppings and urine accumulating underneath the roost on cars that are parked in his business premises. This is causing him extra expense and

6 Steps to take after a Minor Car Accident
If you want a fair dinkum opinion if something is working I always thought you asked someone independent to carry out that task, not rely on people who have a vested interest.
Stop the car and breathe. Accidents can happen. Turn on your hazard lights to prevent a secondary accident from occurring. Make sure everyone’s OK and then move your car off the road if it’s safe to do so.
Once again proof that the capability of the smash repair industry has gone beyond the point where it can be saved.
Swap details with all drivers, passengers and witnesses (full names, registration details, addresses, contact numbers and licence) and take photos.
We have pride in our work so you can be assured of a quality repair on your vehicle.
Don’t admit fault to anyone – your insurer will work this out later. When you’ve collected the other drivers details, contact your insurance company and let them know what has happened.

Following a recent community consultation the Queensland Government is poised to pass laws t that will make it illegal for businesses to sell a range of plastic products, including straws and cutlery. The ban could start as early as September. By 2025 the plan calls for all products on supermarket shelves to carry the Australasian Recycling Label, and for l00 per cent of packaging to be recyclable, reusable or compostable.
Meanwhile, toss parsley, Parmesan, lemon juice, and remaining 1 Tbsp. oil in a medium bowl; season with salt, pepper, and more lemon juice, if desired. Serve steak topped with parsley-Parmesan salad.

Maleny RFB is part of Rural Fire Service Queensland. The Maleny Group covers over 100 sq kilometres and have 3 re ghting trucks and 1 Command Vehicle. The group also assists other volunteer groups. We are always looking for more volunteers so if you think you can help come along and join our friendly group. Some good news is that the new Maleny H.Q. for the joint Emergency Service groups is beginning to come together. Earth works is well progressed and the remainder of the project can now begin. All groups are looking forward to having the new premises as their permanent home with all the necessary services.
This week members from Maleny and Kawana State Emergency Service honed their skills in rst aid and triage on a wet and cold night. It is important that local groups train to work as a team so that in larger events relationships have been developed to ensure an ef cient service. Massive thanks to the Maleny RFB for providing some of their members as casualties to give the situation more reality. By involving other groups such as the Rural Fire Brigade volunteers again gives each group some knowledge about the operating procedures of the other groups incident operations. It also builds up personal relationships so that when groups work together there is knowledge about each others skill levels. Continual training is necessary to keep members skills up to an ef cient operating level.

Truthful then asked, “But how long will this all take?” Instead of the titles Miss, Mrs or Mr the newer term "Mx" avoids specifying gender at all.
To which the Businessman replied, “Fifteen or twenty years.”
Some people prefer not to use pronouns at all, using their name as a pronoun instead.
“But what then?” The businessman laughed and said, “That’s the best part. When the time is right you would announce an IPO and sell your company stock to the public and become very rich, you would make millions.”
Staff have been asked to 'correct' themselves if they use the wrong terms. I am sorry, but being an old codger and being a part of “Humankind instead of mankind” I nd it hard to understand the rational behind all of this new age language and thinking, except the part about treating others with dignity and respect.
“Millions? Then what?”
Irrespective of all other matters or conditions treating others with dignity and respect should be Rule No 1.

Early Settlers to the Maleny and Hinterland areas
Early settlement of the Maleny and surrounding areas started about 1879 when land selection started and over the following twenty odd years families selected land in the area. Selectors were required to meet certain government conditions to be able to retain use of that land.
As quickly as the timber was cleared weeds were quick togrow, so fertile was the area. Corn ourished as did the other crops.
It was during the period around WW1 there was a lot of antigerman feeling thus the Teutoberg area’s name was changed to Witta.
Cattle were introduced to the Maleny plateau by the Dunlop family who has established their lease in the Bald Knob area.
Whilst some people believe that the name of Witta was also named after a region in Germany, but it more widely recognised that the name came from the Aboriginal Gubi-Gubi group’s language, Wetya which meant “dingo”.
Selectors did not have the facilities that we have today. It was a three day journey for them to go shopping for basic needs to the nearest store which was at Mellum Creek.
Timber was clear felled and crops such as corn, potatoes and cattle feed were planted. Selectors were required to live continuously on their land and to complete certain improvements to the land. Improvements included fencing, installing water assets, building houses and farm sheds and other farm improvements.
The Nothling family established vineyards, ran dairy cattle and grew other crops such as corn, potatoes, oats and bananas.
In 1887 a group of German nationals led by Carl Nothling settled land at Teutoberg. This area now forms part of the Witta Curramore area.
Cheeses also became important products produced by the settlers. In 1910 the Manitzky Family won rst prize at the Melbourne Show with their cheese entry. That was a great prize for Maleny dairy farmers.
As part of this community Nothling established the rst Post Of ce in the area.
So that cropping could be better managed timber was clear felled and the stumps were removed so that ploughing for crops could be planted.
Descendants of those original german families are still very prevalent in the Maleny and Witta areas, names such as Nothlings Tesch - Vendrieke - Sommer Bergann and many others. These families established the Lutheran Church soon after their arrival. This church still operates at Witta. The Maleny Provisional

Sustainable Living & Aquaponics IS OUR AQUAPONIC FISH BAD TO EAT? We are eating healthy spray free vegetables from these systems but are we eating healthy sh?????????.

If we are not feeding our native Aquaponic sh their natural food source, logically thinking, we're not eating healthy sh. Some sh food has GMO products, land animal ingredients or arti cial colours or preservatives in it, so it's a long way from being a natural food for native sh in our systems and that's what we are eating.
Aquaponic sh a natural organic food source and produce truely organic vegetables from our system.
When comparing price, make sure you compare the apples for apples, the quality of what you are getting and the total landed cost. I am trying to get my head around this, whilst I'm not pushing any particular product, because I pay the same price as everyone else. We have calculated at the moment, it costs us $2.80 per day, 3 cents per sh, to feed our

For us it takes about 13 - 16 months for the sh to mature, but plate size is suggest after 12 months for the Jade Perch.
I have spoken with this company and negotiated 5%

Who
Remembers
this?
Watson's bus on the corner of Maleny/Landsborough Rd & Hovard Rd 1946. For those with a bit of amnesia! Walter and Christina Watson moved to Maleny in 1944 with their ve children Doug, Dawn, Thelma, Nev and Glenda. They purchased a local coordinated goods transport and bus service from Harry Lyon, which included a 1937 Bedford Truck, which was converted into a bus by Athol Hedges, who later became Domino Hedges, a well-known Motorbody Builders at Northgate. There were two bus trips per day and besides passengers, the mail was collected from mailboxes enroute and delivered to Landsborough Post Of ce. Incoming mail was sorted and then delivered on the return trip to Maleny. In late 1954 they built the present Garage and Workshop which is situated in Maple Street at the corner of Fig Street, Maleny. Brothers Nev and Doug continued to operate the garage and transport company well into the 1990’s Since then the petrol station has been operated by a number of other locals and is still in operation today.
