This year’s fall sale is upon us again and brings a marking partnership that combines Mid South Cattle, Neal Ranch and Soileau Cattle company. After long deliberation and thoughtful discussion, we have joined forces to bring you an offering this fall that raises the bar to an all-time high here in St. Francisville. We look forward to seeing our cattle loving partners. It’s great to showcase our final product that encompassed years of planning and attention to detail. At sale time we also evaluate our programs and plan for our future. Sale time is exciting for us! We love to evaluate our genetics and decide how we can further improve our offerings.

This fall we continue to see the confidence in the cattle market and demand for quality beef near all-time highs. Producers are marketing feeder calves as well as breeding stock at near historical high prices. Cattle producers have anticipated this market for a while so enjoy the benefits of your hard work! We can only hope by sale time we will have rain and cooler temperatures with the sale moving to later in October.

Both programs have developed bulls on grazing pasture with a hand fed supplement. We adjust depending on their needs at different times. Our goal is to raise them slow and steady to prevent problems. Our end-product is a bull ready to work for you and built to last

We are extremely proud of our herd health program. We continue with our testing for Leucosis and Johne’s in the registered herd, including the entire offering. We also test any commercial cattle used in our embryo transfer program. This comes at a significant cost to us however, we want our animals to stay in your herd. This is accomplished by selling a truly healthy animal. We try to have 100K genomic panels on our sale offerings as well as parent verification.

We will have a select group of open females from the heart of our commercial division. Their mothers were 100% born and raised here on our farms. Their sires were chosen for their genetic value, and most are now sired by bulls born and raised on our farms. The commercial genetics we have will excel in any program. All cattle have been inspected for health and fertility by our veterinarian, are current with annual vaccinations and come with interstate health papers. All bulls have been Trich tested and passed a BSE within 30 days of sale.

BREEDING GUARANTEE

All bulls are guaranteed as breeding bulls through the 1st breeding season. If a problem should arise, please contact any of the above numbers and we will offer a replacement bull of equal or greater quality. The legacy of MSC Ms CrossFit 329E8 continues this year with the Macallan bull. This high-end herd sire prospect offers a pedigree stacked with predictability and proven marketability. The hype around the Blue Blood is REAL! His progeny exceeded the expectations of even the harshest critics, and we love what we see when me mate him with some of our best Monument daughters. This proven mating has already produced a female that was featured in the 2024 Genetic Edge sale and commanded $17,000 when the gavel dropped. On paper he offers top 10% WW, YW, TM, and REA while combing that with a top 1% ranking for IMF. His mother the, BWCC Ms Monument 192F52 was a past selection of ours at Blackwater and to date she has proven to be one of the most influential females within our growing program. This pair of full brothers sired by the MC Big Tex541F2 bull that commanded $75,000 through the ring are as consistent as you could hope for in a pair of flushmates. Their dam was always a favorite of nearly everyone that toured the pastures in St. Francisville. The bottom side of the pedigree traces back to 10A20, a full sister to the dam of Monument. 10F2 is also a full sister in blood to a female that recently sold for $40,000 at Phillips Ranch, also a crowd favorite. This pair offers a blend of hard to find genetics on the top side with one of the most elite phenotype and performance mating’s on the bottom side.

These Big Town flushmates have a star studded collection of names throughout their pedigree. Known for their combination of growth and trait leading carcass traits, this mating did not disappoint in the least. At the ground, they are big footed and correct; on the profile they both are masculine and extended in their look and finally on paper they offer top 10% WW and YW with top 4% REA and top 15% IMF. We lead off our full year-old line up with a pair of bull sired by the $85,000 Special Reserve sons out of one the best Crossfit daughters to ever walk the pastures here at Mid South. Their striking phenotype is hard to miss, once again if you need consistency in your calf crop, this pair should be on your short list this October.

Lot 63 - The 103 cow family here in Bunkie is one of the sneaky good set of females we have. His sire traces back to the $76,000 468D22 who has proven to be one of the big impact females in the breed. EPD EXPLANATION

Registration Number: Bulls noted with “R” number are Registered Brangus. Those noted with a “UB” number are Ultra-Blacks, indicating they are a Brangus-Angus blend. Those noted as UB are second cross Ultrablacks. “AX” recorded bulls are appendix registered purebred Brangus that have non-typical Brangus color pattern.

Polled/Scurred/Horned: Denotes bulls that are either smooth polled or have the presence of scurs or slick spots. Those bulls noted as “scurs” typically have had scurs removed post-weaning. Horned bulls have presence or horns.

Genetic Conditions (GC): Indicates genetic condition status with “Free” indicating tested free or pedigree free of currently known genetic conditions. Prefixes noted with a “C” indicate that given animal carries a non-lethal recessive gene for that given condition.

INDIVIDUAL MEASURES

Birth Weight (Act. BW): Actual weight at birth, expressed in pounds.

Scrotal Circumference (Adj. SC): Testicular circumference, measured in centimeters, and adjusted to 365 days of age.

EXPECTED PROGENY DIFFERENCE

Genomic Enhanced Expected Progeny Difference (GE-EPD): The genetic predictor of how future progeny of each animal are expected to perform relative to the progeny of other animals listed in the breed database. These EPDs through DNA technology are genomically enhanced for more reliability and higher accuracy levels.

Percentile Ranks: Ranks each given GE-EPD trait against the breed population for non-parent animals, active sires or active dams and expressed as a percentage ranking in that population. As an example, 1% is higher than 50%.

GE-EPD Accuracy: Since all bulls selling in this catalog are non-parent, their accuracies are the lowest calculated by our national sire evaluation program.

Heifer Pregnancy (H Preg): Predicts the probability that a female will have a calf as a two-year-old. Expressed as a with the higher number more desirable.

Stayability (Stay): Measures the probability that a cow will still be in the herd at six years of age. With the higher number being more desirable. Terminal Index (Term): Evaluates a sire for use on mature cows with all offspring put on feed and sold in a terminal end point scenario. The higher the number, the more desirable.

Fertility Index (Fert): Developed for cattle raised in a general-purpose production system to produce reproductively sound replacement females or bulls that will sire reproductively sound replacement females.

Calving Ease Direct (CED): Expressed as a percentage and indicates the influence of the animal on calving ease in females calving at 2 years of age. The higher the number the more desirable for calving ease.

Weaning Weight EPD (WW): Expressed in pounds, is a predictor of an animal’s ability to transmit weaning growth to its progeny.

Yearling Weight EPD (YW): Expressed in pounds, is a predictor of an animal’s ability to transmit yearling growth to its progeny.

Milk EPD (Milk): Predicts a sire’s genetic merit for milk and mothering ability as expressed in his daughters compared to daughters of other sires. In other words, it is that part of a calf ’s weaning weight attributed to milk.

Total Maternal EPD (TM): Expressed in pounds, a genetic predictor of weaning weight by blending a combination of maternal milk and weaning weight value.

Scrotal Circumference EPD (SC): Measured in centimeters at a yearling time, predicts testicular size.

Ribeye Area (REA): Expressed in square inches, is a predictor of transmitting ability of ribeye size and overall muscle mass which is a key component in USDA yield grades.

Intramuscular Fat (IMF): Expressed as a percentage, is a predictor of transmitting ability for marbling or intra-muscular fat correlating to USDA quality grade at harvest time.

GE-EPD VALUES & PARENT VERIFICATION ( • PV • SV • DV)

By sale time we will have a complete set of GE-EPD values for every bull and it will be noted on a supplement sheet. Nearly every bull has current GEEPD values and more than 90% of the females have current GE-EPD values. Every animal in the sale will be sire verified and if something is missing this will also be noted on sale day supplement sheets.

MULTIPLE SIRES IN OUR BREEDING HERD

Most of our females have been naturally exposed with two natural service sires. We continue to determine the viability of profitability of running multiple sires during breeding season and then DNA calves for sire determination. Interesting and continuing project to determine which particular sire in a given group has the desire and ability to rule his pasture. The resulting natural service sired calves from these sale females will have to have DNA samples sent to labs for sire verification.
