Lynda, I and The Fenco Crew are extremely excited about the offering in our 2nd Annual Phillips-Fenco Bull Sale. Although it is only our second bull sale, we have been breeding and developing our Brangus herd of top quality genetics for many years now. In addition to being a seed stock producer, we are a Florida commercial cow/calf operator that retains ownership of Brangus commercial cattle all the way to the processor in Kansas, so we understand both ends of the business. The packers are demanding that Florida cattle hang on the rail more like the Midwest cattle, well guess what? Our cattle are outperforming in most categories. Fenco’s latest group of cattle yielded 64.6%, (above avg of 63%) and graded 91% choice/prime and commanded over a $75/ head grid premium. Great bulls will pay for themselves very fast at that rate. Now for the good news from the feed yards; our Florida cattle have a lower death loss then the ones that they are getting from the farm 100 miles down the road...., they tell me that Brangus cattle have the will to live, while some straight Angus calves give up easily.

Before all the genetics can help you, we must provide you with a bull that can breed your cow herd out in the big pastures that are the cornerstone of most cow/calf operations. We develop our bulls at our Floral City operation in the summer heat on Bahia grass pastures, while we do have to supplement them to get them ready for the sale, we do this by feeding them at least an ½ mile from their only water source, our bulls travel several miles a day. Because of this extra travel we require from Fenco bulls, we catch most issues early on, so you don’t have issues later.

I would like to thank Phillips Ranch for hosting this sale again at their incredible facilities, and Saddle Hill Cattle Company for adding some incredible genetics to the sale.

Buyers may purchase bulls through Phillips-FENCO personnel or designated sale consultants at auction without viewing the cattle. For sight unseen purchases, the buyer has the right of inspection at the time of deliver and if the bull is deemed to be unsatisfactory, it may be loaded on the truck and returned at no obligation to the buyer. 30-30 WILL HIT THE MARK!

30-30 is one of the most exciting herd sire prospects to hit the breed in a long time. Royally bred, 30-30 derives his name from the combination of two powerhouse 30 cow family lines that have contributed so many top end genomics to the Brangus Breed. The story of the 30 cow families that culminated in this mating started all the way back to the Sand Hills of Nebraska at Connealy Angus Ranch in 1985 when Miss BB Bravo 30T8 was born as part of the Brinks New Genetics program. Vern Suhn built his 30 line off a great Geronimo daughter that then produced the prolific and impactful donor, Suhn’s MS Duke 30M. At the same time, Ken Hughes at Camp Cooley Ranch built that family off a different daughter of the 30T8 cow, the 30Z4 donor cow who had extra growth built in. Through the years, great cattle from both the Suhn herd and Camp Cooley lineage ( with strong additions by Lake Majestic, Salacoa Valley, T3 and Quail Valley Farm) built the value and validity of the power of the 30 cow family brand. 30-30 is a full flush brother to the exciting weaned heifer calves that sold in April at the Phillips Female sale to Chimney Rock and to GKB each for $15,000. Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder. The auctioneer will settle any disputes as to bids, and his decision on such matters shall be final.

TERMS

The terms of the sale are cash, check or money order at the conclusion of the sale. Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold, but it shall be the obligation of the seller to see that animals are fed and cared for until loaded for shipment or until the expiration of 48 hours after the sale, whichever occurs sooner. After 48 hours a maintenance fee of $5.00 per day will be assessed until pickup unless Phillips-FENCO sale staff arranges shipment.

SIGHT UNSEEN PURCHASES

Buyers may purchase bulls through the owners or personnel at auction without viewing the cattle. For sight unseen purchases, the buyer has the right of inspection at the time of delivery. If the animal is deemed unsatisfactory, it may be reloaded on the delivery truck and returned to the owners at no obligation to the buyer. All transportation expenses will be the responsibility of the seller. If the animal is deemed unsatisfactory within one week of the purchase, the buyer may at their expense, return the animal to the owner’s ranch for a full refund of the purchase price.

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY

A transferred certificate of registry will be furnished to the purchaser for each registered animal once proper settlement has been made.

HEALTH

Health papers suitable for interstate shipment will be furnished on all animals.

GENETIC CONDITIONS

All carriers or potential carriers of any known Genetic Conditions are noted in this catalog. All animals not noted as tested, have not been tested and sell as is with no further guarantees.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Any changes from the information of any kind in this catalog will be provided in a sale day supplement sheet or announced from the auction block and such information shall take precedence over cataloged information.

BREEDING GUARANTEE

All animals are guaranteed to be breeders with the exception of: a) calves under 12 months of age; b) animals shown by purchaser after sale in which the guarantee (if any) shall be between the seller and the buyer; c) injury or disease occurring after the sale; d) gross negligence or willful misconduct on the part of the purchaser; e) death by any reason. Any bull which settles cows by natural service and passes a fertility test made by competent veterinarians, mutually agreed upon by the buyer and seller, during any six month period of trial (provided for in paragraph 2 of the section of these sales terms and conditions entitled “Options and Privileges of Return or Adjustment”) shall be considered a breeder. All partial interest bulls are guaranteed to produce freezable quality semen. This is not a life insurance policy. Seller will not replace a dead animal if it is killed or dies for any reason. We would suggest that normal care still needs to be exercised toward these animals and that yearling bulls should be fed so they can continue to develop properly.

OPTIONS AND PRIVILEGES OF RETURN OR ADJUSTMENT

All claims for adjustment or refund must be made in writing within six months of the sale date. In the event an animal is claimed to be a non-breeder, the animal may be returned to owner’s ranch, if in good condition and complying with the health requirements of their state. The seller shall be entitled to a six month trial following the return of the animal in which to prove that the animal is a breeder. If at the end of six months the seller is unable to prove the animal is a breeder, the seller shall at the option of the buyer replace the animal with another of equal value or issue a credit for the initial selling price. If the seller proves the animal to be a breeder, it shall be the obligation of the purchaser to take delivery of the animal and pay all expenses incurred for transportation. If an animal is sold and at a later date proves not to be eligible for registration under association rules, the seller shall be obligated to make a satisfactory adjustment on the purchase price to the buyer, refund the purchase price or issue a credit for the initial selling price upon the return of the animal to the farm of the seller. If an animal is sold and through DNA is proven to have incorrect parentage as represented by the certificate of registration, and for which the parentage can be determined, the seller shall be obligated to make a satisfactory adjustment on the purchase price to the buyer, refund the purchase price or issue a credit for the initial selling price upon the return of the animal to the farm of the seller.

RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS

The above terms and conditions of sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and seller of each animal and shall be equally binding on both. Other than the guarantees and warranties stated above, no other warranties or guarantees are expressed or implied. Each sale or resale of an animal constitutes a separate transaction. Neither bull owners nor any other person connected with the management of the sale, assumes any liability, legal or otherwise.

The Brangus Value Project

Everyone knows the value of a Brangus cow. The Brangus Value Project tests the value of Brangus steers.

Ninety research steers sired by five widely-used Brangus and Ultrablack sires were fed and harvested in southwest Kansas in the winter/spring of 2022.

Performance was compared against a southwest KS benchmark of same-weight steers placed on feed at the same time.

The steers were sold on a carcass merit grid.

The results didn’t surprise us because we look at Brangus data every day. But, some people may not realize what modern Brangus and Ultrablack cattle can do beyond the ranch gate.
