The Entrepreneur’s Source on Examining Your P.O.D. The first step to launching your veteran-owned business is to identify your Possibilities, Options, and Dreams, then take time to start putting systems in place and asking yourself questions to identify what possibilities and options are the best to capitalize on, and how to get started.
Possibilities: Daydream back to your childhood days where the possibilities for your future seemed as if they were limitless. You believed that you could do or be anything and had the ability to focus on your ultimate goal without fearing the hurdles that stood in your way. Entrepreneurs should use this same mindset when questioning one’s possibilities.
Options:
Have you fully considered
all of your unique opportunities? First, you should investigate the options that exist in your current career. Is there room to mature professionally, or does your career path seem to be stagnant or sinking? If you find that you aren’t satisfied with the options that are provided in your current job, then you’ve likely realized next move should be transitioning from Employment to Empowerment. Identify what you didn’t like about the options that You 1.0 had
and brainstorm what options align with what you would like to be in You 2.0.
Dreams:
What future are you
aspiring to? No dream is too big when fantasizing of what you’d like your future to hold. Would you like to have the flexibility to attend all of your son’s basketball games? Do you want to provide yourself the opportunity to retire early? Are you looking to have the means to travel the world? Well, these dreams may not be too big to achieve with business ownership as a vehicle. Applying your time is the first of many steps to becoming an entrepreneur. However, doing so isn’t always easy on your own, and that’s where an alternative career coach can come in handy. If you’re looking to move from Employment to Empowerment in by this time next year, schedule a free business start up consultation.

First Command FINANCIAL COACHING THROUGH ALL STAGES OF LIFE
The seeds of First Command’s commitment to serving the financial planning needs of American military families were planted in the early 1950s, when Air Force Lt. Col. Carroll Payne had the occasion to work closely with the families of several crew members killed in a training flight. Saddened by the survivors’ financial difficulties, Lt. Col. Payne began thinking about how he might be able to help other military families avoid the same fate. In 1958, he began laying the groundwork for the company that would become First Command. Our mission hasn’t changed. Our focus continues to be on building trusting Client-Advisor relationships by meeting face-to-face with servicemembers, federal employees and their families to learn what’s important for them and

According to historic tenets instilled during the drafting of the Declaration of Independence, the American flag “bows to no man or king”. The American flag became the symbol for the freedoms the brave leaders, civilians, and soldiers of the American Revolutionary War fought for. Each part of the American flag actually stands for something that reflects the enduring spirit of this nation’s people. So why does it appear to fly backwards on the US Army Uniform, Government vehicles, and even on the space shuttle?
11
Flickr / Program Executive Office Soldiers
History: The reverse flag concept dates back to the Army’s civil war when both cavalry and infantry units would charge ahead. One person was always the flag-bearer leading the headlong charge into battle. When moving forward, the canton – or star field – is always to the front as the red and white stripes flow to the back in the breeze. The concept behind the flag appearing to look ‘backwards’ on Army uniforms is to make it look as though the flag is flying forward as the Soldier moves forward. If the blue were facing to the rear, it would give them impression of ‘retreating’ or moving backwards. It should also be noted that military flag patches are often trimmed with gold borders. 12
This is in imitation of the gold-fringed flag, also known as the U.S. military flag. According to an executive order signed by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1959, the gold-fringed flag (and, by extension, patch-sized replicas) are to be used exclusively by the armed forces.
Honor: American military uniforms feature the U.S. flag, which is worn facing backward. Although the debate rages on about which shoulder the flag patch should be worn, the place of honor for the American Flag is always to the right of other military branch or State flags, hence the reason for the right shoulder.
Army Regulation 670-1 The U.S. Department of Defense has declared American flag patches must be worn so that the cantor or star field faces forward, or to the flag’s own right. When carried with an organization flag as in the March of the Colors, the U.S. flag is carried to the right of the line of march. The organizational flags are dipped to salute the reviewing officer at a parade or during the National Anthem, but the American flag is never dipped in salute. Specifically, Army Regulation 670-1 paragraph 28-18 governs the wear of the U.S. flag on Army uniforms. 670-1 states, “the American flag patch is to be worn, right or left shoulder, so that the star field faces forward, or to the flag's own right.” When worn in this manner, the flag is facing to the observer's right, and gives the effect of the flag flying in the breeze as the wearer moves forward.
Upcoming Changes to the Army Uniform: The Army combat uniform uses hookand-loop-backed attachments to secure items such as name tapes, rank insignia, and shoulder patches and tabs, as well as recognition devices such as the American flag patch and
the infrared (IR) tab. Two U.S. flag insignia are authorized for wear with the ACU: full-color and subdued IR. The U.S. flag insignia is worn on the right shoulder pocket flap of the ACU coat. Unit patches are worn on the left shoulder, while combat patches are worn on the right. In July 2011, coinciding with the Army's Birthday, it was announced that effective immediately, the Army Patrol Cap, or "PC", would replace the black beret for wear with the ACU, and that name tapes, rank, and skill badges can optionally be sewn on. In the field, the jacket may be replaced by the flame resistant Army Combat Shirt when worn directly under a tactical vest. Most soldiers operating in Afghanistan are issued a "MultiCam" pattern better suited to that country's terrain. The Army has announced the replacement of the Universal Camouflage Pattern for the ACU in favor of the Operational Camouflage Pattern (OCP), which is similar to MultiCam. Current plans call for a full transition to the OCP by the autumn of 2019.

Hidden Keys to Home Ownership Transitioning from the military often includes looking for a new place to live—typically off base. Depending on your personal life goals, owning a home versus renting may be more beneficial in the long run. Mortgage interest—for the time being—is tax deductible. If your home goes up in value, you can cash-in on the investment. Improvements to the home can reduce your tax liability. Owning a place for your life to happen may be the ultimate dream—traditionally referred to as the American Dream.
Breaking away from the comfort of allowance pay combined with the responsibility of a new house payment might be a startling reality. Veterans have multiple resources, organizations, and people dedicated to help them own a home. When buying your next home, save thousands of dollars by first understanding the benefits of veteran home buying programs.

GAIN A COMPETITIVE EDGE
Understand Your Skills Through DNA Behavior Knowing your persona can help understand how others perceive you. Knowing this information can change your life. Depending on when you entered military service, you might have taken a personality test to help best determine what job you would be suited for while in uniform. For those who didn’t take a personality test, the idea of taking one to help you decide what to do with your civilian career might seem a little strange. It might surprise you to know that there’s been significant research surrounding the efficacy of personality tests. These tests are a method of assessing your sets of likes, dislikes, and patterns. Most assessments are introspective self-reporting surveys that helps a person determine strengths and talents. When compiled, the information can give you insight into traits and characteristics that you might otherwise overlook.
Personality Determines Everything Translating Skills For transitioning service members, a personality test can help you understand how you can best translate the skills you developed and culled in the military into an engaging and exciting career.
21
The Big 5 If you’re a science buff, you might be familiar with the Big Five Personality Test. It’s one of the most widely known tests that is supported by academic psychology research. This test measures for the five personality traits that are most commonly used in testing methods. It’s easy to take and consists of fifty items that are rated on a scale ranging from agreement to disagreement.
Apply the Answers If results will aid in understanding of how you’re going to best fit into the civilian workforce and can help channel some of your efforts into areas that might be most appropriate given your interests and strengths. Of course, it’s important to remember that these kinds of tests aren’t totally accurate all of the time. You’re going
to get out of it what you put into it, so the more authentic and honest you are with the answers, the more likely you’ll be able to use this resource to your advantage.
