OFFICIAL PUSHES FOR PAPERLESS DOCUMENT MANAGEMENT FOR CITY EMPLOYEES Business professionals and city officials are realizing that going paperless isn't as much of a challenge as some critics would have the public believe. Streamlining the document delivery and sharing process is growing more sustainable and reasonable than printing tangible alternatives that end up getting lost on a cluttered desk. Electronic workflow eliminates many of the extraneous, tedious tasks the average office employee regularly performs. Taking proactive measures After experiencing the exasperation of receiving physical invoices and notifications, one city official took the initiative to push her office toward paperless document management. According to the Post Star, Judy Cologero, Industrial Development Agency chairwoman for the city of Glens Falls, N.Y., recently announced at the organization's board meeting that she will no longer be receiving agendas, minutes, reports and other records in paper format through the U.S. Postal Service. In an effort to show her fellow board members how efficient the process is, Cologero told the news source that all Industrial Development employees will email documents to her, which will be downloaded to her tablet. The chairwoman claimed that the electronic workflow solution reduces paper and postage expenses and is easier for staff to utilize. "We're going to do this as a trial over the next couple of months and then we're going to have a little education session," said Cologero, as quoted by the news source. Tablets paving the way Cologero's mobile device is compatible with document management software, allowing her to read reports from anywhere inside or outside of the office. Tablets are becoming more ubiquitous in contemporary office settings, prompting technology developers to participate in the growing market. Recently, Sony released Digital Paper, a device that allows professionals engaged in paper-heavy industry to view, annotate and share forms electronically. Claiming that the innovation will appeal to a wide array of communities, ranging from legal to government agencies, Digital Paper Solutions director Bob Nell noted that the mechanism has a 13.3 inch display that shows full-screen views of PDF documents, eliminating the need to zoom or scroll down when reading a page. The organization plans on showcasing its new product at the American Bar Association's Tech Show in Chicago in an effort to appeal to law firms, which consume an incredible amount of paper.
