Remembrance Month!
ovember is a month of change; leaves have fallen on the ground and we change our tires for the winter months that lie ahead. But it really is a lot more than that, isn't it? We take this time to remember our men and women who gave their all for our country and the freedom that we enjoy today. Most of us know someone who serves or has served in the Armed Forces, whether it was in World War I, World War II, Korea, Afghanistan or all the many peacekeeping missions. My dad served in Europe, as did my uncles and other family members. Family members on both my dad and mom's side served in World War II.
My mother-in-law's dad served in World War I. In November, we remember the sacrifices that our Veterans made so that we could enjoy our freedom. Many of our veterans were not drafted, although some were, but many just volunteered. My dad and uncle were a couple of them; my dad joined the Northshore Regiment, Pictou Highlanders; my uncle, Albert Leonard Wood, joined the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Flight Sergeant. Albert was a tail gunner on a bomber Lancaster. He was killed when his plane was shot down over Bremen, Germany on July 25, 1943. My dad, Robert Allan Wood, was wounded in Cannes, France where he took shrapnel to the leg. They both sacrificed so much, as did many others, for us and our freedom that we have today. Thanks to all of our Armed Forces that have gone overseas to fight evil and tyranny. November,
November 2021
His Sacrifice for us! therefore, is a time to put on our poppies and remember all those who sacrificed themselves for us. There is no greater love than that. John 15:13 says, "Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends." The following is a story of a First World War soldier, Cpl. Harry Miner, who was born in Cedar Springs, Chatham-Kent, Ontario. Harry earned the British Empire's highest military award for bravery, the Victoria Cross, as well as the highest French citation, the Croix de Guerre. Harry was recognized for his brave actions in the battle of Amiens, on August 8, 1918. Even though Harry had multiple wounds, including a very serious wound to the head and to his shoulders, Harry would not withdraw from the battle; he refused medical help. Instead, Harry chose to ignore his horrible wounds. Harry would then rush a German
machine gun post, where he killed the machine gun crew, then turned the gun on the enemy. When Harry ran out of ammunition, he tossed the machine gun aside and attacked two more enemy positions while killing a few more enemy soldiers in hand to hand combat, before being hit by a grenade, where Harry died from his wounds. That is the sacrifice that the soldiers made when they volunteered and went overseas to fight for their country. Some would come back with life altering wounds, some even with wounds that no one could see, but they knew they were different, and some died on the battle field making the ultimate sacrifice. I'm not sure what their sacrifice reminds you of, but it sure reminds me of what happened almost 2,000 years ago, outside the gates of Jerusalem, where Jesus was whipped, beaten and crucified on a cross, where He died for your

sins and for mine as well. Let's go and look at why Jesus had to become a perfect sacrifice for us. The many focal points of the Gospel is the sacrifice of Jesus Christ for our sins and that He rose again three days later. Jesus took our sins, the sins of mankind, upon Himself on the cross. Without this pure act of love from the Son of God, we wouldn't have any hope. When John the Baptist was in the Jordan river baptizing people, he saw Jesus walking towards him. In John 1:29 he said, "The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!" The "Lamb of God" goes back to the time when Israel was being delivered out of the hands of ancient Egypt under the direction of Moses. Now before the 10th plague that brought the death of the first born, Israelite

families were told to kill a lamb and brush the blood on top of the door frames of their houses. The lamb that was to be slain for the purpose of the door frame was called the Passover lamb. This ceremony was known as the Passover. That first Passover in Egypt, God accepted the blood of the Passover lamb on the door frames of the Israelites' houses in place of their first born. Now the first born of the Israelites that rejected that notion and did not put the blood on the door frames would not be saved from death. The blood from the lamb had allowed the Israelites to escape the penalty of death that came upon the land in Egypt. Exodus 12:21-24 says, "Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel and said to them, "Pick out and take lambs for yourselves according to your families, and kill the Passover lamb. And you shall take a bunch of hyssop, dip it
in the blood that is in the basin, and strike the lintel and the two doorposts with the blood that is in the basin. And none of you shall go out of the door of his house until morning. For the Lord will pass through to strike the Egyptians; and when He sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the Lord will pass over the door and not allow the destroyer to come into your houses to strike you. And you shall observe this thing as an ordinance for you and your sons forever." The Passover was supposed to be a yearly festival, a celebration in Israel so that they would remember how God delivered them from death. The Passover from the Old Testament was a prelude to the New Testament, as Jesus Christ then became the Passover lamb for all of His church. I Corinthians 5:7 says, "Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump,
since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us." Jesus Christ became the propitiation sacrifice for our sins, because without Jesus Christ sacrificing Himself on the Cross, there would be no forgiveness for anyone. 1 John 2:2 says, "And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world." We now go back to the book of Genesis to see why Jesus had to become the perfect sacrifice. After Adam and Eve sinned against God, they found themselves removed from the Garden of Eden and there were angels placed at the entrance so they could never enter again, Genesis 3:24 says, "See He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life."

Access was no longer possible to the tree of life. Their relationship with God was changed forever; sin had now entered into human life and caused a separation from God. God is perfect and righteous and sin is the total opposite of God, it's filthy and dark and ugly; it leaves you feeling down, depressed; it's heavy on your soul; it destroys you from the inside out; it is a terrible stain on God's perfect creation. Sin is the cause of all pain and suffering and this world is filled with evil. People ask, "Where is God through all the world's pain and suffering?" This might be why some people don't believe in God. It's because God cannot tolerate or look upon sin; He cannot accept or co-exist with sin. There is unrepentant sin in people's lives; God will not answer them or have anything to do with them until they repent of their sin and give their lives to Jesus. That is why when Jesus was on the cross, He could no longer see God the

Father and He cried out to Him. Matthew 46:27 says, "And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?" that is, "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?" God will not tolerate unforgiven sin as Isaiah 59:1-2 says, "Behold, the Lord's hand is not shortened, That it cannot save; Nor His ear heavy, That it cannot hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear." God is a just God; He will not just remove awful disease of sin; He has to totally remove it and cleanse us from all it's evil effects in our lives. This is the exact reason why the sacrifice of Jesus Christ had to happen. Jesus had to pay the ultimate price, the penalty for all of our sins. They were all put upon Him on the cross and He became our Lord and Savior. The Gospel contains all the information we need about how
humanity can be forgiven, and once again we can walk with God everyday and, thanks to all that Jesus did for us on the cross, we can now receive the promises of life in heaven with the Lord after our physical death. The apostle Paul is telling us about how the foundation of the Christian message is one of total reconciliation. Paul says to us in 2 Corinthians 5:18-19, "Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation." God has authorized that separation to be healed through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross. It was God's unimaginable love for all of us that moved Him to give His own Son as a sacrifice for mankind. John
3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." The plan for our salvation is God's plan. Also the method in which He chooses for the removal and forgiveness of our sins was from a member of the God Head or family, the Word who came down and became flesh. John 1:1-2 says, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God." Also John 1:14 says, "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth." Jesus Christ would come to earth as a baby, God born in the flesh. He came down to us, so we could go up to be with Him. He went willingly on the cross to die for our sins, as Philippians 2:5-8 says, "Let this mind be in you as it was in Christ Jesus,

who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross." Through the death of Jesus Christ, God demonstrated to us the depth of His love for us all and the horrific nature of sin. If God had dealt with the sins of the world in a casual way, it would have sent a message to the world that rebellion and the rejection of God's laws were not that big of a deal. But by sending His only Son, Jesus Christ, to be mocked, beaten and crucified on the cross, the price of our forgiveness was very costly for God. This powerful demonstration shows us that evil does matter and it was defeated at the cross. The details of Christ's crucifixion was prophesied in the Old Testament as Isaiah 52:14 said, "Just as

many were appalled at you, his appearance was so disfigured that he did not look like a man, and his form did not resemble a human being." Jesus was scourged and severely beaten just before His crucifixion. This was prophesied by Isaiah; he said He would be almost unrecognizable and that it was the most horrific beating that any man had ever survived. He was beaten for all of our transgressions and He gave His blood as the complete sacrifice for all of us, to reconcile us, so we could be with the Father God, by offering Himself on the cross. This was God's will and His plan to bring humanity to be forgiven, and have eternal life with Him. Isaiah 53:45 says, "Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we
are healed." Because of Jesus' sacrifice, God will now allow us to come into His presence if we acknowledge and accept what His Son did for us. If we acknowledge our sins, 1 John 1:9 says, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." Acts 26:20 says, "but declared first to those in Damascus and in Jerusalem, and throughout all the region of Judea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent, turn to God, and do works befitting repentance." Then God
Page 7
will forgive our sins. God promises to forgive us and freely give us the gift of the Holy Spirit through baptism. If we do these things, God will forgive and forget all of our sins. Hebrews 8:12 says, "For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more." Have you thought any more of where you will end up when you pass away? There is only one of two places, heaven or hell. Please, act now; give your life to the Lord Jesus Christ and He will clear your sins and you will have eternal life with Him in heaven.

Echoes of an Angel
A boy who lost his eyes, but could still see
Book by: Aquanetta Gordon with Chris Macias Written by: Lynne Wood
E
choes of an Angel is a true story written by Aquanetta Gordon, the mother of Ben Underwood, a very remarkable boy who lost his eyes to cancer before he was three years old. Thanks to his loving mother, Ben could still see. On the morning of Ben's surgery, her heart was very hopeful. She felt the Lord's presence and He told her three things: Ben will live and not die; Ben will see again and this isn't for you. Even though she was just beginning her walk with Christ, she had faith he would live. Aquanetta didn't know then how Ben would see again, but she trusted the Lord that he would. She didn't understand the part, "this isn't for you," until years later. After the operation when Ben woke up and cried, "Mom I can't see anymore," she thought her heart would break. She told Ben, "You can see, only differently. You can see me with your nose, with your hands and with your ears; that means you can still see me." That would be the last
time Ben would say he couldn't see. Many people criticized Aquanetta for being hard on Ben, but they soon came to realize after observing Ben, that he was enjoying life. Ben was full of the Holy Spirit; he was always happy. One day, his teacher asked him why he was happy and always smiling. His answer was because he has Jesus in his heart. Aquanetta is a single mom raising five children; she treated them all the same . Ben was never given special treatment because he was blind; she always told him you can do anything. Through his
mom, he actually learned to see with sound; he could do anything a sighted person could. Ben had three brothers and one sister. They taught him to ride a bike, play ball, climb trees and he earned a yellow belt in karate. What an amazing young man; nothing would stop him, except a fear of water, which he overcame and learned to surf. Ben had many friends, including Stevie Wonder, who he met at a convention. They became very good friends who would be there for one another. Aquanetta told Ben, "Your gift is for the benefit of other people
to show them that with faith in God, anything is possible." That's when she realized what the Lord meant when He said that Ben's blindness wasn't for her. Ben was a bold witness for Christ; he would tell anybody about the Lord. Unfortunately, his cancer returned; it was very aggressive. It never bothered Ben; he trusted the Lord completely. His mom was understandably quite upset, but Ben simply said, "This is God's will." Ben told his mom, "Be happy for me, no tears: I'm going to be with the Lord." Ben's funeral was on what would have been his seventeenth birthday. Over two thousand people, including Stevie Wonder, came to pay their respects to a young man who touched so many lives. I just gave you a glimpse into Ben's life; what an inspiration he was. I know this book will inspire you, as Ben did with so many people. Psalm 138:3: "In the day when I cried out, You answered me, and made me bold with strength in my soul."

n Ecclesiastes, one of the books of the Old Testament, King Solomon suggested that there is a rhythm to our existence: the call to plant, to love, to live, to work and then to enjoy the fruits of our labor (Ecclesiastes 3:1-13). This message centers on God's authority in heaven and earth and denotes there is a chosen purpose for everything we experience in our lives. It also makes us realize that some elements of our existence are beyond our control. We cannot conquer time; God is the One who appoints each moment. Each season has its appropriate time in the cycle of life. Nothing stays the same, and we must accept and adjust to the flow of God's design. Some seasons are difficult and although we may not understand what God is doing, we must trust in His sovereignty, knowing that He is working out His good purpose. The Bible says that Jesus has lighted every man that has come into the world. Psalm 19:1 says, “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the skies proclaim the work of His hands.” The whole Bible is a

Time testament that God is waiting for His children to seek Him. He gave us a free will; we are masters of our own eternal
God because He is our Creator and He gives life and takes it away. We don't know the day or the hour that we will pass,
destiny. We choose to be saved or not be saved. God is willing to bring us up to the level of blessing He promised, as soon as we are willing to surrender our hearts and souls to Him and live for Christ. James 4:810 says, "Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Be afflicted and mourn, and weep lest your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He shall lift you up." We need to remember that all our best laid out plans are always subject to the will of
and after death comes the judgment, which is why the day of salvation is such an urgent call. In Luke 12:16-20, Jesus tells a parable of the rich fool, who thought he had plenty of time to enjoy life. But God had news for him: "This very night your life will be demanded from you" (verse 20). Proverbs 27:1 says, “Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.” We don’t know what will happen tomorrow, which makes putting off being saved very critical. We are told in James 4:13-14: “Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will

go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” God wishes that none perish. The Bible urgently appeals to us to repent without delay. God wants all of us to be saved. The right 'time' is now. We can only live our lives one day at a time. Yesterday is already gone and tomorrow is not promised. We have today; this present moment - to be saved by the grace of God. Every time a person says 'no' to what's right, when we refuse to listen to God and insist on going our own way, our hearts and minds eventually become calloused and hard until we are numb to God calling us onto Himself. It becomes easier to say 'no'. The harder a person's heart becomes, the more 'force' God applies to bring him to repentance. Just look at the severe plagues in

Time Egypt, where Pharaoh's heart continued to harden…the plagues continued and worsened, until his very own son was taken from him. Those who refuse to repent and turn to Christ in faith will suffer eternal consequences. Hell is a real place and mankind in his sin is in a dire situation. Why would anyone delay repentance? For the unsaved person, now is
the time to wake up out of your sleep, before you pass the point of no return. In Romans 1, the apostle Paul shows how the wicked made a choice to reject God, and that choice put them on a downward spiral of increasing darkness and decreasing hope. As the godless run farther and farther from God, God intervenes less and less and eventually gives them over their own
wicked ways, meansing that God completely abandons them. We shouldn't delay repentance, especially when we know the difference between right and wrong, because once we know that something is a sin, we are responsible for our actions and the state of our hearts. This is a dangerous spiritual condition to be in. When we delay

repentance, we also delay certain blessings from God. He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy (Proverbs 28:13). Call on Jesus and ask Him to save you before it is too late. Jesus promised: “For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened” (Matthew 7:8).

Actor Josh Brolin now celebrates his sobriety of 8 years
ctor Josh Brolin is celebrating 8 years of being sober, as he thanked God, his family and friends for being there with him on his hard, long journey. Josh is known for his many movie roles, such as "Avengers and Dune." Josh who is 53 years old, said sobriety is similar with knowing there is a recognition of the presence of God. "Sobriety is knowing that God is in everything and that it is made up of every color and mixture of color that exists. Thank you, God, family and friends for the most punk rock sobriety imaginable." Josh said that, "Sobriety is finally loving without every thought being about how it only affects you. Sobriety is a moment of being able to love and be consumed by the glee it brings someone else. Sobriety is knowing the difference between selfishness and integrity. Sobriety is knowing the moon late at night, when she was there with you in your toughest hour,
and now again, her witnessing your greatest joys." Josh also wrote that sobriety is having
the original they are growing into." "Sobriety is climbing in your truck for a 6 am call, after eight years of
his children looking at him, trusting him, seeing it in their eyes, and the way they stand before him. "They know they are not being cultivated into some idea, but celebrated for
sobriety and there being a card from your wife telling you how grateful she is for you having made the decision to put it down and to live instead, accompanied by a collage board of
your children, that was created because of that decision. Sobriety is about living better than your remembrance of what your greatest drunk ever was, an everyday malleability into gratitude for what is. None of this is deserved. All of it is perception. Deeply grateful." Josh checked into rehab in 2013 and used declarations of love, trust, life, and his children to describe his sobriety. But Josh has said that he is not a "religious person." "Everywhere we have traveled, the one place Kathryn and I always found a great solace in were chapels. Not being particularly religious, but a God feeling heavily inundating our lives, chapels have always been the sanctuaries where we felt most connectedly free to give thanks." Josh and his wife named one of their daughters Chapel Grace. This was a reminder of God's manifestation that he felt when he knelt.

Disturbing new trend!
Almost 70% of born-again Christians believe that there are other ways to Heaven
S
ome born-again Christians make up almost 70% who disagree with the Bible and the biblical position that Jesus is the only way to Heaven, according to a new survey from Probe Ministries, a nonprofit ministry that is trying to help the church by refreshing the minds of Christians with a Christian world view. This survey looks at religious mindsets and their beliefs towards cultural attitudes. They polled 3,106 Americans of the ages 18-55; they were from all religious groups which included 717 participants who said they were bornagain Christians. The born-again Christians were recognized on their reply to the question that asked, "Do you have a personal commitment to Jesus Christ that is important in your life today?" They were also recognized by what they believe in and from what happens after you die. Born-again Christians agreed that, "I will go to Heaven because I did
confess all of my sins and I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior." Regardless of this claim made by the born -again Christians in this poll, all of those between the ages of 18 to 39, who was with some kind of religion, about 1 out of 5 strongly disagreed with those who said that Muhammad, Buddha and Jesus all taught valid ways to God. Sixty percent of them said they shared their faith with others with the purpose of converting them. Steve Cable, who is the senior vice-president of Probe Ministries said,
"If you think that there are multiple ways to Heaven, why would you want to go out of your way to convert someone to your religion? Of course, you could be sharing with an unaffiliated person who needs to choose a valid religion." The survey also saw that some of the top reasons born-again Christians gave for why they don't tell anyone about their faith was because of pluralism. When born-again Christians explained why they don't tell others about Jesus, they gave three reasons: 1)
"They can get to Heaven through different religious beliefs," 2) "We shouldn't impose our ideas on others," 3) "The Bible tells us not to judge others." Steve Cable, said, "At first glance, this may seem surprising. But in a culture where pluralism is a dominant part of all religious groups, it begins to make sense. And the pluralistic reasons were dominant, attracting around two thirds of the population across all religious groupings." Steve also stated that pastors and their churches really need to teach all of their congregations that Jesus is the only way to Heaven. Their are roughly about 176 million American adults that say they are Christians, but only 6% or 15 million actually had a strong biblical world view. Another shocking figure was that over half reject quite a bit of biblical teachings. This includes the existence of the Holy Spirit.

World War II veteran who is also a Pastor from Texas has been inspiring many people with his perseverance. He is also crediting Jesus for his long life. Jack Hetzel is an author and a Pastor and he is turning 100 years old on November 18th. He has met presidents, fought for America during World War II, he has started businesses, written eight books and he has preached the Gospel of Jesus Christ for many years. A few months ago, Jack made headlines as he received his high school diploma at the age of 99. As Jack prepares to celebrate his 100th birthday, he is giving all the thanks to God for all that he has done in his life. Jack said, "I believe I'm going to go to 112, but I'm ready to go anytime. God has been so good to me to live 100 years." Jack also told about his military history. He said he was in the army during World War II and
he fought in five well known battles. Jack preaches at Big Sandy United Methodist Church in Texas and spent time leading other churches in past years. Jack said, "After being in the military, I finally agreed with God that it was time for me to preach. If God puts something into a person, why would you retire from it? I don't minister; I am a minister. I don't like to vacate. I like to do what I'm doing." Jack's strong spirit and his willpower aren't only noticeable in his
pastoring, but also when he realized his dream of attaining a high school diploma. A lot of people Jack's age would have just given up on their high school diploma, but Jack kept pushing forward. Jack did receive a GED in 1948, but he always wanted a high school diploma and now Jack earned that this past summer. Jack said, "It's very exciting. You see when you have little education and then you have to come up through life and you have to front life with little education,
you have to learn somehow." Jack's biography on his business website says Hetzel and Hetzel Enterprises; this business is a land management company. Jack only had a third grade education and yet he still achieved so much during his life. Jack's biography says, "With no more than a third grade education, Jack became an instructor of 'Military Science' at Texas A&M University. Since retiring from the military, Jack has always been involved with entrepreneurship creating many successful businesses and non profit charities which are still in operation today. Jack is happiest when helping people in need." Jack has lived an amazing life and lived it well and his story is inspiring, to say the least. It leaves us all with something to think about and to obtain like perseverance and a strong faith in Jesus Christ.

Austin Carr Retires
November 2021
Austin Carr totally trusts in Jesus Christ as he decides to retire from the NFL
ustin Carr, a former New Orleans Saints wide receiver, has announced his retirement from the NFL. He also said that "he is totally committed to following God's voice and what He tells him to do." Austin shared the news of his retirement on an article he wrote, saying that he is very confident in the future plans that God has in store for him. Austin said, "After much prayer and consideration, I've decided that it's time to turn the page on my career in the NFL. It feels surreal to be moving on from this 20 year stint of lacing up the cleats every fall, but I'm committed to following the voice of God, and it has become clear that up ahead He has a new and exciting future prepared for my family and me."
Austin also expressed on how thankful he is towards all the people and fans who have been an influence to him throughout his football career. Austin took the time to thank his agent, all his coaches and teammates that he has had during his playing career. Austin talked about the sacrifices that his family made while he was playing youth
football. He said, "To my family, words cannot express how grateful I am for your love, sacrifice and support from youth football practices on Springs Road to the Superdome on Sundays." Austin also took the time to thank his wife. He said, "Erica, she has played so many roles and put on so many hats for my sake." Austin also thanked
God for how He has always been there to protect, love and guide him. He said, "You are eternally worthy of all glory, honor and praise from these undeserving lips. Truly, I can sing with the psalmist, 'Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to Your name give glory, for the sake of Your steadfast love and Your faithfulness!'' Psalm 115:1." Austin finished by saying that he knows it can be difficult at times to let go and lean on faith in our Heavenly Father, but remember, He knows what is best for us. He said, "A wise man once said, 'If you want to walk on water, you have to get out of the boat.' It's not always easy, but it's always right for us to put our total trust in Jesus Christ. Here's to the next season of life, stepping out onto the water of His calling."

racy Ham was born on January 5, 1964 in Gainsville, Florida. He is a member of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame; he was also a specialist on the running of the option offence while he played in college at Georgia Southern. Tracy's skills and athletic strength had led him to be drafted by the Los Angeles Rams during the 1987 draft, which he was picked in the 9th round. The Rams had seen Tracy as a running back but he still wanted to continue playing quarterback. Tracy then decided to head north to the CFL where he signed a contract with the Edmonton Eskimos, who are now the (Elk) in 1987. Later that year, Edmonton would go on to be eliminated by the eventual Grey Cup Champions, Saskatchewan Rough Riders, with an upset win in the Western Final during the 1989 season. But Tracy would be named CFL's Most Outstanding Player. During the season, he passed for 4,360 yards and 30 touchdowns,
and incredibly he also added 1,005 yards rushing with 10 rushing touchdowns. Tracy with his athletics and speed would go on to help redefine the position of Quarterback in the CFL during the 1990's. Tracy brought the position of Quarterback with the rushing threat to a whole new level, with other great CFL quarterbacks like Dough Flutie and Damon Allen. During the season of 1993, Tracy was moved to the Toronto Argonauts in a 10 player trade. Now under a new coach, the run & shoot offense was a disaster and the team struggled terribly that year. By the end of that season, it looked like the interest of Tracy had stumbled alot around the league, except the late coach Don Matthews saw something still there in Tracy and brought him to Baltimore, as the CFL had expanded to the United States in 1993. Tracy was a veteran with lots of experience in the CFL, and their success would bring a championship that year as the Baltimore Colts became the 1995 Grey Cup Champions by beating the Calgary Stampeders. After the ending of the American franchises in 1995, the Baltimore Colts were moved to Montreal where Tracy was the face of the Alouettes. Tracy would play until he retired at the end of the 1999 season. Throughout his career, he

Tracy left his mark in the CFL; the results were fantastic over his 12 year football career. From 1987 to 1999, he accomplished 40,534 passing yards which is currently seventh of all time. He also threw 4,943 times with 2,670 completions, 164 interceptions and 284 touchdowns. Tracy's 8,043 rushing yards currently places him in the tenth all time and second among quarterbacks. Tracy also recorded 1,059 carries with 62 touchdowns. Tracy was honoured by being elected into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame for the Class of 2010. Tracy has devoted his time to many charitable organizations, which includes the Children's Hospital in Macon and Bethesda Home for Boys in Savannah. When Tracy lived in Statesboro, he was a member of the Whitesville Full Gospel Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and a member of the finance committee. Tracy still attends the church when he is in Statesboro.

Bible Study...Psalm
salm 23:4: "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me, Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me." Psalm 23 was written by David, a shepherd in his youth, who eventually became king of the ancient nation of Israel. In Palestine, the sheep districts consisted of wide open, rolling hills, split here and there by deep ravines, where many wild beasts, the enemy of the flocks, would be lurking. A shepherd in Bible times carried a rod and a staff to protect his sheep. The rod was a short, thick, heavy stick which was worn at the shepherd's belt which could stun or kill a ferocious beast that was attacking a vulnerable little lamb. Sometimes, a shepherd had to use his rod to knock a stubborn ram on the head in order to get his attention and keep it from danger. The staff was a long, lightweight pole with a curved end, or crook, and the shepherd used

it to move, count and examine his sheep as they filed past the comforting shepherd's crook, and into the sheepfold for the night. Just as the rod and staff were used as weapons to protect the sheep, David knew the Lord protected him in the same way that a shepherd protected his sheep from any
we're comforted to know that He's fully capable of guiding and sustaining us. We can rely upon the word and promises of God, knowing that His grace is sufficient for us, and that He will make even death itself work for our good. We are as defenseless as sheep against the wiles of the devil, but we take
danger. The valley of the shadow of death may denote the most severe and terrible affliction that the psalmist could ever come under. David was writing about God's provision in the hour of fear or death. When death is at our doorstep, we can pass through that valley without fear because we know our Shepherd is with us, and
comfort in knowing our Shepherd will walk beside us all the way home. Jesus is our Good Shepherd and He's with believers at all times. He promises to be with us always (Matthew 28:20). He is with us when we walk over rough ground as surely as He is with us "beside still waters" (Psalm 23:2). Jesus said, "I give them eternal

life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand" (John 10:28). Psalm 23:1-3 depicts a very tranquil scene of green pastures and still waters, a sharp contrast to the somber passage portrayed in verses 4-6, but carries the assurance that the Lord protects His sheep and fills their days with His blessings. In the middle section of this Psalm, David changes from talking about his Shepherd, Who leads and guides him, feeds and waters him, protects and revives him, to addressing the Shepherd Himself: "for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me." Quite often, the last days of a Christian are the most peaceful days of his life. Many saints have reaped more joy and knowledge at the end of their lives than they had ever known while they were alive. This verse tells us that we walk through "the valley of the shadow of death," not "the shadow of death," for death itself has been

removed, and only the shadow of it remains. It was once said, that in order for there to be a shadow, there must be light somewhere...that light being our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He is the light of the world. John 8:12 says, "Again,

Jesus spoke to them, saying, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." This twenty-third psalm will never wear out; it is as sweet in a believer's ear now as

Movie in Review...Courageous Legacy Remembrance Month!
“10th Anniversary”
T
his is a highly emotional, and at times, a funny movie that is also very uplifting. The movie starts as Nathan Hayes stops at the gas station and begins to fill his truck up with gas. When Nathan turns his back to pick up a squeegy, a gang member jumps into his truck and takes off with it. Nathan begins to run after his truck, where he manages to grab on to the gang
member through the window. This then begins the hold-your-breath as Nathan fights for control of the truck. The truck crashes into the ditch and the gang member runs. As we find out, Nathan let him go because in the back seat was his son. As we find out as he is questioned by the Albany Police, Nathan has just transferred there to Albany, a small town where he grew
up, from the Atlanta Police. The Albany Police department are good officers, as they're friendly and easy to get along with, but they are facing problems there, especially from a growing gang. Adam, who is played by Alex Kendrick, is the leader of the three friends with the police force. Now Nathan is joining the group. Although Adam is a good police officer, he is not so much at the home front as a dad. He doesn't want to run with his son in the father and son race, and he doesn't want to dance with his daughter in the parking lot, more out of embarrassment, although he will go on to regret that. Now the sad part of the movie is when Adam's daughter is in a car accident and passes away as a result of her injuries. Adam, his wife and son have a hard time dealing with this terrible accident. As time goes on, Adam realizes that he needs to be a much better father to his son. Adam is aware of the fact that he hasn't been a good enough father. His three police officers

and his carpenter, who is working for him, also come to the same understanding that they need to become better fathers themselves. All of them realize that they are also facing enormous problems in their lives that need changing before they can become good fathers. The rookie officer had his child out of wedlock and left, so he has never seen his child. Shane, Adam's partner, has been through a divorce and only sees his son when he can. Each individual father has many issues to confront in their lives to be better fathers. Some of the problems can seem to be overwhelming, but the end of the movie will make you want to not only stand up and cheer and praise the Lord, but also make you to be a much better father yourself. Courageous Legacy will help make you a better father, just like the movie Fireproof helped people understand one another to make a better marriage. This movie is heart breaking at times, and will make you laugh with great humor as well.
