Our Protection!
Our assurance of protection: Psalm 91
Owner/Publisher: Rob Wood
W
hen we look for protection from God, we need not look any further than the Psalm book. I like many of the Psalms, but my favorite one for protection is Psalm 91. It has everything in it, and it shows everything that God does to protect us. All we need to do is have faith; it's a great Psalm to believe in. Psalm 91: He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him I will trust. Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, and
under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day, nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday. A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you. Only with your eyes shall you look, and see the reward of the wicked. Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, even the Most High, your dwelling place, no evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; for He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. In their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone. You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, the young
lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot. "Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him, and show him My salvation." I remember how my mother and father was always there for me, my brother and my sisters. They would take care of us, feed us, clothe us and of course, they would protect us, and they did a really good job of all of those things. Now if our earthly parents did all that for us, can you imagine what our Heavenly Father can and WILL do for us? All we have to do is just have faith that He will do all of these things for us.
We can see in the scripture of Psalm 91 how God will protect us. Donna and I always read this scripture first thing in the morning, before we leave the house. It gives us assurance that God is there with us, as He says that He will never leave us or forsake us. It says in Deuteronomy 31:8: "And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you or forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed." Here are a couple of stories about people who believed in God's word of Psalm 91: Sergeant George Harold Barclay was from Brownwood, Texas and he served in World War II in General Patton's 320th infantry of the United States Army, Company E. Continued fear eliminated any expectation of ever

returning to his wife and baby daughter. The same fear kept his wife terrified when she would see a Western Union truck deliver letters of war casualties. Once, a Western Union messenger came to her door by mistake and she said that she froze with terror. Sometimes, as many as six weeks would go by without a letter, during which time the media reported that half of Harold's company had been killed. The Battle of the Bulge saw the whole outfit cut off from the rest of the army. Finally however, a letter came from Harold saying that God had given him Psalm 91, and he now had absolute certainty that he would come home without even an injury. So certain was he of this promise in Psalm 91, that when the medics said they needed volunteers to go to the front lines to bring back the injured, Harold volunteered and made repeated trips under extreme

enemy fire, saving many lives. The citation for the Bronze Star Award that he received said, "For bravery," but Harold insisted that it wasn't bravery, since he knew nothing would happen to him because of the covenant promise God had given to him in Psalm 91. When he came home without a scratch, it was obvious that angels had indeed bronzed him up in their hands, allowing no evil to befall him. Another short story is one that Corrie Ten Boom wrote about a prisoner of war. Many people came to know and trust the Lord during World War II. One was an Englishman who was held in a German prison camp for a long period of time. One day, he read Psalm 91. "Father in Heaven," he prayed, "I see all these men dying around me, one after another. Will I also have to die here? I am still young and I very much want to work in Your kingdom here on earth." He
received this answer: "Rely on what you have just read and go home!" Trusting in the Lord, he got up and walked into the corridor toward the gate. A guard called out, "Prisoner, where are you going?" "I am under the protection of the Most High!" he replied. The guard came to attention and let him pass, for Adolf Hitler was known as "the Most High." He came to the gate, where a group of guards stood. They commanded him to stop and asked where he was going. "I am under the protection of the Most High!" All the guards stood at attention as he walked out the gate. The English officer made his way through the German countryside and eventually he made it home to England, where he told how he had made his escape. He was the only one to come out of that prison camp alive. How do you see God? Do you see Him as your protector? Or do you see Him now
Page 5
that you are saved and don't need to bother with Him as much? First of all, you have to be living in God's will; it is the only way. If you are living in His will, you will have the peace of God come over you, like a warm blanket of love. You will be able to go about your life in peace and be in His strength with everything you come across. John 14:27 says, "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." The Lord also says in John 16:33: "These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." Now this doesn't mean we will never have problems, because we will, but the peace that God gives us is different. It's like, no matter what happens to us, we know that He is

here with us, right beside us in all things. Psalm 91 is how God tells us to run to Him and seek His protection, by doing so, we shall be saved from all destruction and crisis. When we go to God and pray the words from Psalm 91, it turns into a powerful shield of protection from the fears of this world. The last two years we worked our way through a pandemic, something that no one saw coming. It kept us from seeing our family and friends, and made things so hard for so many, especially if you lived alone. This world can be so confusing and frightening for so many of us. It's hard at times not to be anxious or find ourselves worrying over things. We don't need to look too far, we can just go to our Bibles or on our news feed to find the Psalm of protection. Psalm 91 is our 9-1-1 call to God Himself. This Psalm is packed with all statements

and promises of the protections from God. With the mess that the world is in right now with the virus and war, this Psalm really speaks loudly of God's presence, His power and all of His protections against fear. Fear is the very thing that God doesn't want overtaking us. When we start to fear, it shows that we are living in the flesh and not the spirit and then we start to rely on our own, and we start trusting Jesus less. Paul, the Apostle, always encouraged Timothy; he told him that he should always hold on to faith, and keep strong moving forward. 2 Timothy 1:7 says, "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of sound mind." Psalm 91 is truly a Christian's battle call. In the midst of the craziness of this world or anything else that we may face, we do have the right to be a little concerned, but we do not have the right to worry or show fear. In the Bible,
March 2022
Our Protection!
there are 365 verses that are about fear. Jesus tells us not to worry. Matthew 6:2534 says, "Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Therefore do not worry, saying, What shall we eat? or What shall we drink? or What shall we wear? For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father
knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble." God doesn't want us worrying or fearing anything, because these emotions start to take over us and they become king over us. Instead, we need to lean on Jesus, who is our King. So many Christians are now praying this prayer of Psalm 91. Why are they? They are because the power of this Psalm is a reminder for them, that no matter what happens in their lives, whether they lose their job, have a financial collapse, whether it's a disease like cancer, a virus or as of now a war, GOD IS STILL IN CONTROL. In the first two verses of Psalm 91, we find out who God is, because He tells us exactly who He is:
March 2022
"He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust." Right in the first two verses are four of God's powerful names: the Most High, the Almighty, the Lord, my God. In these first couple of verses of Psalm 91, God reassures us beyond a doubt that we are serving a mighty God. It also reminds us that, though we are living in a fallen world, He is still right here beside us, never leaving us as Deuteronomy 31:6 says: "Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them, for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you." Even in these difficult times we are facing, especially with the war in Ukraine and NATO beefing up its presence in Europe, we are reminded that God is our shelter,

our protector, our deliverer from all that is thrown at us in a day. We are also reminded that God is in control of everything; there isn't anything that gets by Him; He knows it all and sees it all. Psalm 91 is God's way of saying to us that whoever comes to Me and seeks My divine protection will be saved from crisis and destruction. When we pray to God the words of this Psalm, it becomes our shield of protection from fear and that is very powerful. As I mentioned a few pages ago, some people have mistakenly thought the teaching is an unconditional promise and proof that life will be easy and smooth, that we will never face hardship, or any illnesses, difficulties or suffering at all. This is why so many walk away from the faith after years of being told this, only to find out that is not the truth. The truth is that even the disciples had hardships and tough times, but while they
were here on earth doing the Will of God, they were protected from death until it was time for them to go home to the Father. God doesn't promise us that we won't get sick or witness loved ones getting sick with illness or anything else that happens in life. But what God does promise is to be with us and protect us from fear. The promises and plans that He has for all His children offers us the comfort that He is in control. Psalm 91 also talks about not letting any virus near our dwelling to keep us safe. I have heard this a
Page 7
few times in the past from Dr. David Jeremiah and I really love it. It sums up perfectly what I have been talking about here. "A Man of God, who lives in the will of God, is immortal, until God is through with him, and brings him home." We all need Jesus Christ. He died on the cross and was risen three days later for us all. He is the only way to heaven, as John 14:6 says, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." He is the only way; He stands between you and God, so come to Him today.

The Jordan River Rules
The same God, who led you out, will lead you on
Book by: Robert J. Morgan Written by: Lynne Wood
T
he Jordan River Rules is a very good read written by Robert J. Morgan. This book talks about the God given strategies for moving forward. I'm sure you all know how God parted the Red Sea when He led the Israelites out of Egypt, but did you know that forty years later He parted the fast moving Jordan river to lead them on to the promised land? So many people think the Bible is just stories written by men that don't pertain to us today; that's simply not true. Yes, the Bible was written by men who were guided by the Holy Spirit, and God is speaking to you from the pages of the Bible. The Jordan River Rules is based on the first six chapters of Joshua in the Bible. God told Joshua He would never leave or forsake him. Joshua believed in God and he did everything God told him and God led him as He promised. God knows our future and He will always be with us, to lead us on and encourage us forward. Some people also believe that God could never forgive their sin; that is also false. If God forgives anything, He forgives everything; all you have to do is ask and believe.
In the pages of this book is the story of Rahab. She was a prostitute in the city of Jericho. This city had sunk so low, it was beyond saving except for a prostitute and her family. Joshua sent out two spies to check out the city of Jericho and report back. God guided the two men to Rahab's house and they entered. She had heard the stories of how God parted the Red Sea for them and she longed to know their God. The town people came to her door. They wanted the spies, but Rahab
had hid them on the roof. She told the men of the town they had gone out of the city. At night, she went up to the roof to help them escape. Rahab asked them to show kindness to her and her family as she had shown kindness to them. The two spies told her to gather her family with her and tie a red cord in her window and they would be saved. When Joshua and the Israelites took Jericho, they spared Rahab and all her family because she helped them. Later, Rahab married an Israelite named Salmon; they had a son, Boaz. Boaz married Ruth and her son was Jesse. Jesse's youngest son was David who would become King of Israel and the forefather of Jesus Christ. God can use anybody for His purpose. One simple act of kindness started the genealogy of Jesus Christ. So remember, as you go about your day, one small act of kindness can change history. This book has many wonderful stories of how to be kind, compassionate, strong and courageous. Remember, you're not in control; He is. Trust in Him always and He will lead you forward. Psalm 31:24: "Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all you who hope in the Lord."

Who am I?
J
ohn 1:12: "But to all who did receive Him, who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God." I remember when I was a young teenager, I was very awkward, trying to figure out who I was, trying to find my way in life. Peer pressure was always forefront, wanting to be 'cool' with my friends, wanting to fit in by acting or speaking in such a manner that was not desirable according to my parents' standards, but sometimes I didn't care. My priorities were not in line with what they thought were important, and that didn't matter much to me either. I was stubborn, rebellious, inconsiderate and self-centered. When I became a Christian, I viewed myself as a faithful member of a Church, a good mom and wife, and a conscientious office worker. I clung to these identities, but little did I realize it, I was building my foundation of selfworth on sand. The
Predestined for Adoption problem was, when I let these things identify who I was, I fell short... big time, because every day, at least one of
being a 'child of God,' the stronger my selfworth became. And the stronger my sense of self-worth became, the
these identities was threatened. There were times I yelled at my kids (or tried to yell at them, as they would say lol), and other times I was not as understanding as I should have been with my husband. I attended church regularly, but didn't always apply what I learned in my everyday life. I just couldn't measure up, and because my identities became my source of happiness, I was miserable. In my pursuit for contentment in life, I discovered that the more I rooted my identity as
less insecure, defensive and fearful I felt. And the best part of it all, is that being a 'child of God' can never be threatened. There is nothing I can do to make me more of a child of God by my own merits, no more than I can become less of a child of God by my mistakes. 2 Corinthians 6:16 says, "For ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them." With the Holy Spirit abiding in me, I am filled with truth, I can be a beacon of light to the world, I can love the way that Christ loves me
and I know a peace that the world cannot give. I still stumble and fall. There are times when I feel worried and scared, even angry or sad. And my stubbornness surfaces from time to time (just ask my mother!), but the more I identify as being a child of the King, as a child of love, forgiveness, long suffering and kindness, the more my self-worth grows, because it's built on the Word of God, which is everlasting, unchanging, good, pure and true. This new sense of identification takes away any tendency to be hateful or bitter, but to love every individual I come into contact with. As a child of God, my desire is to live my life in such a way that is pleasing to my heavenly Father. 1 Hebrews 12:911 says, "Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to
March 2022
His Grace Magazine!
Page 11
Who am I? them, but He disciplines us for our good, that we may share His holiness. For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it." Some people believe that everyone is a child of God. This is not true. We are all designed by God and loved by Him, but we can only become His children when we are adopted by Him. Ephesians 1:5 says, "He predestined us for adoption to Himself as sons through Jesus
Christ, according to the purpose of His will." Also, Romans 8:16-17 says, "The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs - heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with Him in order that we may also be glorified with Him." Jesus taught that becoming a child of God means that we must experience the new birth, as John 3:3 states: "Jesus answered him, 'Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the
kingdom of God.'" Being a child of God means our sins are paid for and our fellowship with God has been restored through Jesus Christ. We have access to the throne of grace through prayer. Hebrews 4:16 tells us, "Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need." God hears the cries of His children. He sets about transforming us through the power of the Holy Spirit. A child of God has an eternity in heaven
“And I will be a Father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to Me, says the Lord Almighty.”
(2 Corinthians 6:18)
guaranteed, for Jesus has already paid the price for every person who trust in His death and resurrection. John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life." We were created to live as children of God! Sin broke our relationship with Him, but Christ restores us to that original relationship when we repent of sin and place our faith in Him. Live for Jesus now and eagerly await spending eternity with Him in Heaven!

Reading Scripture!
See how studying the Word of God through Scripture can lead to better Health and Hope
W
ith the war raging in Ukraine and Covid, so many people have had battles with their mental health, including stress, anxiety, anger, depression, even unforgiveness towards others in their lives. Many doctors are saying emotional health is directly involved with physical health. But research tells a different story for those who know the Word of God. It shows that people who are reading scripture everyday have altogether improved health. John Plake, from the American Bible Society, says findings from a recent study has shown that deeper commitment with reading the Bible can have a great effect on people, including their health. John says, "In the midst of a pandemic and this sort of once in a century disruption we've been experiencing in America, we were interested to know, how does the Bible help people? We were extremely heartened to
realize that in the midst of languishing and the struggle that the nations' been in, people who are deeply connected to the Bible and to Christian community are remarkably resilient." John also said that stress levels have risen dramatically since Covid: "Stress levels are extremely high. Every indicator of stress that we looked at, and there are 10 of them in the study, was up when the pandemic was really starting to take hold and people's lives were being disrupted. Stress hasn't gone down, it's actually up. We saw that 48 percent of Americans
say they've experienced a significant, traumatic event in their lives." Now research tells us that people who are connected with strong Christian people who are deeply connected with God's Word were more prone to overcome many challenges in life. John says, "What we discovered was if people were scriptureengaged, meaning more than just putting in time to read the Bible, but a consistent interaction with the Bible, that begins to shape people's choices and transforms their relationships with God, with themselves and others. When deeply
engaged with scripture and allowing it to touch their hearts, we see significantly decreased levels of stress." He also said, "We see increased levels of hope. Some of the highest levels of hope for the future are among people who are closest to the Bible. Then lastly, we see among people who have been traumatized that people who are scripture-engaged are more likely to forgive those who might have hurt them. Even if those people didn't ask for forgiveness." John said that the highlight in 2020-2021 was that the American Bible Society had a sizable increase in Bible users. He said, "We saw an increase on the order of 12 million people who are now using the Bible at least occasionally that weren't before, from about 169 million people who use the Bible at least occasionally to 181 million people that were recorded in January 2021. That's really good news."

She said, "I cannot believe I had a moment like this, I got the golden ticket and I'm heading to Hollywood." Betty walked into her audition with her crown from Miss American in her hand as she came to perform her first song, "A Moment Like This" by Kelly Clarkson, a 2002 American Idol Alumni. When she finished the song, the judges asked her to sing a country song. Betty then chose

God gave me. I don't know why, maybe part of it is just the pressure to always have something bigger and better on the horizon."
Betty also said, "Part of it is that I know deep down I'm just a normal girl from a farm in Georgia and I just feel like I'm not worthy of it all. That's why I'm always so thankful because I don't feel like I deserve it. No matter what, I just focus on giving all the glory to God because without Him, I am nothing." Even though Betty had said all that, she still is very proud of all her accomplishments that she has achieved in winning golden ticket to Hollywood. Russian Forces Stall
Putin is growing desperate as Ukrainian Troops reclaim some key cities near Captial
T
he Ukraine forces have won a key victory with a counter attack and reclaiming the strategic town of Makariv, which is an important suburb in western Kyiv. This is allowing them to stop the Russian forces from surrounding the capital. This big win comes as Russia is continuing to have setbacks on the frontlines. A senior United States defense official said the Russian military has lost ten percent of its combat ability in the Ukraine and the soldiers are running out of fuel and food. He said, "Putin is desperate. It's very clear. In less than one month, three times the number of tanks has been destroyed in Ukraine as were destroyed during a decade in Afghanistan." With the Russian invasion completely bogged down, there are now fears that Russia might be thinking of using chemical weapons. A Russian official had refused to rule out that they may even use nuclear
weapons. Dmitry Peskov, a Kremlin Spokesperson said, "If it is an existential threat for our country, then it can be used in accordance with our concept." In southern Ukraine, the Ukrainian military still have a hold of the besieged port city of Mariupol, regardless of the constant strikes that hit the city and a cruel
siege, as the Russians have cut off all the essentials such as water, communications and electricity. Some heartbreaking drone videos are showing a series of huge explosions at a steel plant and the total destruction of many buildings in the city of Mariupol. Ukrainian President Zelensky said that there
is nothing left of this city. Well over 200,000 people have escaped Mariupol. There are only about 100,000 still remaining and they are now trapped there. Ukrainian authorities said that Russian soldiers have taken away 15 rescue workers from a humanitarian convoy that was bringing in food, water and other supplies for the people in Mariupol. As reported by the UN refugee agency, ten million people have now left their homes in the Ukraine, along with over 3.5 million looking for refuge in neighboring countries. Poland has taking in the most refugees, as more than 2 million have crossed their border. United States President Joe Biden is in Brussels for a NATO summit. He will be talking about keeping U.S. soldiers in eastern Europe for the long term. After that, he will be heading to Poland to talk about the growing humanitarian crisis of refugees.

The hospital will include treatments for children and adults, a delivery room, and intensive care unit, and a first aid area. The Minister of Health Nitzan Horovitz said, "We are acting on our moral duty, we increase the humanitarian aid and we extend our help to the Ukrainian People. The Ministry of Health sent aircrafts

with medical equipment and medicines and now we will also establish a field hospital to aid the refugees on the scene. The Ministry of Health and the State of Israel
stand clearly on the side of the Ukrainian People. We shall continue to assist, as much as needed, in saving the lives of civilians whose lives were destroyed in
a moment." Israel's field hospital will be run by Israel's Sheba Medical Centre, Clalit Healthcare Services and Medical staff form other hospitals. United Hatzalah, one of Israel's emergency services, has already set up another field hospital in Moldova. The Sheba Medical Centre is now working on putting up another field hospital in Warsaw, Poland, where all the Jewish Ukrainian refugees are, as they wait to fly to Israel.
Russia strikes a Holocaust Memorial Site
sraeli and Jewish leaders are condemning a Russian strike on the damaged Holocaust Memorial site in the Ukraine capital, Kyiv. The site marks the massacre of thousands of Jews during the second World War in the hands of the Nazis. The Russian missile that targeted the TV tower in Kyiv, also
hit the Babyn Yar Holocaust Memorial Centre. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said, "To the world, what is the point of saying 'never again' for 80 years, if the world stays silent when a bomb drops on the same site of Babyn Yar? At least 5 killed." There are nearly 34,000 Jews buried there in a mass grave;
they were murdered in a 48-hour span during 1941 in Kyiv. Natan Sharansky, the chairman of Babyn Yar Holocaust Memorial Center said, "Russian President Vladimir Putin seeking to distort and manipulate the Holocaust to justify an illegal invasion of a sovereign democratic country is utterly abhorrent. It is symbolic that he starts attacking
Kyiv by bombing the site of the Babyn Yar, the biggest of Nazi massacres." The US Holocaust museum was "outraged" by the damage to "one of the largest mass shootings during the Holocaust." Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid said that Israel will help repair all of the damages from the blast.

Ben Roethlisberger

Ben is putting God first after his retirement, He said he needs to 'Thank the Lord.'
P
ittsburgh Steelers quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger retired after the end of the regular season this year. When he retired, he offered thanks to God. Ben said, "First and formost, I need to thank the Lord for all the many blessings He's bestowed on me," as he went through the ways that he is grateful for almost twenty years of football with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Once again, Ben talked about God, as he expressed so much thanks for his playing career for his protection playing the game and for the people he met. Ben said, "Football has been a gift, and I thank God for allowing me to play it, surrounding me with great people and protecting me through until the end with love and honor." The former NFL star quarterback said that now that he has taken off his helmet and hung up his cleats, he plans on being there for his family. He mentioned his wife, parents, sister
and children. He said, "To my wife, Ashley, our children, Benjamin, Bailey and Brodie, you lift and inspire me and give my life purpose. I am so thankful for your love and support. I love you so much." Ben also thanked all of his fans for their support through all the years that he played in Pittsburgh with the Steelers. Ben said that playing football will be for always one of his favorite memories. "Putting that jersey on every Sunday with my brothers will always be one of the greatest joys of my life. I retired from football a truly grateful
man." In an on-field interview a few months ago before Ben retired, he caught the attention of everyone when he said that God has extremely blessed him. He said, "I'm just so thankful for the fans and my family, obviously. The good Lord has blessed me in so many ways." Ben has been very open about his faith in Jesus Christ and all of his struggles that he has faced. He talked during the event ManUp that was held in Pittsburgh back in 2020, discussing such issues as alcohol and pornography. Ben said athletes are human,
just like everyone else. "We sin, like everybody else. I am no different. We make mistakes. We get addicted to things. We sin. We're human. I think sometimes we get put on this pedestal where we can't make mistakes. I've fallen as short as anybody. I've been addicted to alcohol. I've been addicted to pornography, which makes me then not the best husband, not the best father, not the best Christian I can be." But regardless of your struggles, Ben said it's still possible to overcome all these obstacles and move forward with God. "You have to dedicate yourself and understand that you can get out of it because of the grace of God and Him saying, 'Listen, you're good enough for me the way you are. You don't have to be perfect.'" We congratulate Ben Roethlisberger on his great career with the Pittsburgh Steelers and as he begins his new life after football.

Dave was a big part of the Giant's God Squad
ave Dravecky was born on February 14, 1956, in Youngstown, Ohio. He is known as a Major League Baseball Player, a motivational speaker and an author. Dave is also known for not having a full baseball career, instead of having a successful career playing ball on the field. Dave started his Major League Baseball career with the San Diego Padres in 1982. The season of 1983, he was named to the National League All Star team, as he had a fantastic season with 14 wins. After almost 6 seasons with the San Diego Padres as a starter and a relief pitcher, he was the main part of a huge trade with the San Francisco Giants. As a pitcher with the San Francisco Giants, Dave was known to the press as they jokingly mocked him as a member of the God Squad, this group of the Giants' pitchers who were not shy about telling everyone about their Christian faith. They would rather stay in their hotel rooms and hold a Bible Study than go out partying.
During the season of 1988, the doctors had discovered a cancerous desmoid tumor in Dave's pitching arm in October of that year and he had to have surgery, where they removed half of the deltoid muscle in his pitching arm. Dave received the devastating news that he would never pitch again. But he was determined to make a comeback to baseball and he worked really hard on rehabbing his arm. In August of the 1989 season, he made his return to Major League Baseball, even though the doctors wanted him to wait to pitch until the 1990 season. Dave won that first game back by beating the Cincinnati Reds 4-3; he pitched eight innings that game. Dave then followed that great start with a game in Montreal to play the Expos, he again pitched great going three no-hit innings, but he started to feel strange in the 5th inning as his arm started to have a tingling sensation. In the sixth inning, he started off a bit shaky as he allowed a home run to the leadoff hitter. Then Tim Raines came up and as he threw the first pitch to him, his humerus bone snapped, and the sound which sickened everyone was heard throughout the ballpark. Dave then fell on the pitchers mound in excrutiating pain; he had broken his arm between the shoulder and elbow,

ending his season and his career. Dave had two more surgeries following the break, but doctors still feared that the cancer would spread through his body. Dave then chose to save his life and had his left arm, shoulder blade and part of his collarbone removed. Many people in Dave's situation might turn against God at this point and become very bitter about losing their career, having it taken away from them in this manner, but this was not Dave. He quickly started a new career of motivational speaker, sharing his first hand account of God's love for him from the very day he accepted Jesus as his personal Savior in the minor leagues, this through all of his trials, to the blessings in his life today. Dave says that he has grown more through all of the bad in his life than he ever could have with the good. Dave has written two books about his battles with cancer and his attempts to play baseball after he received his cancer diagnosis. The books are called "Comeback;" it was written in 1990 and "When You Can't Come Back," was written in 1992 and was coauthored with his wife, Jan. In Dave's books, he confesses to the truth that without Jesus, he is nothing.

Synergism
Important things in life are simple; It is us who make them complicated and profound. When we can't see how the pieces fit together, Feelings of doubt and frustration abound. All our circumstances manifests His will; They will be divinely used by the Lord. We have the assurance that nothing can touch us Until it passes through the will of God. Nothing is beyond the overriding scope Of His unfailing providence; All things are purposed for our good Within the compass of our existence. Hatred, violence, death and grief... The world is filled with all sorts of evil. But God uses every one of these things To affect His own good for His people.

Synergism
The Lord takes all that He allows To happen to his beloved children; Persecution, sinful failure, lack of faith, And ultimately turns them into blessing. God will weave all hopelessness together With every other facet of our lives to produce, Within the knowledge and range of possibility What He knows to be the very best for us. How incredibly important it is to know That every aspect of our lives is in God's hands; We can claim a new power in our lives, A force that will calm the turbulence. When you start to see life like this, That happenings are part of His ultimate plan, We have immense freedom in our spirit, Even though we may not totally understand.
(Romans 8:28) “For we know that all things work together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose."

Proverbs 11:13
March 2022
Has your Tongue been checked lately?
roverbs 11:13: "A talebearer reveals secrets, but he who is of a faithful spirit conceals a matter." What does it mean to be a talebearer? According to MerriamWebster Dictionary, a talebearer is one who spreads gossip or rumors; a tattletale. This person loves the power and intrigue of revealing secrets. Talebearing is telling anything about another person, even if it is true, that isn't necessary nor helpful to their reputation. It is not safe to be close to someone who trifles with the happiness of another soul, because as soon as he betrays the confidence about one person to you, you can be sure he will then turn around and betray your confidence to someone else. The way that we talk about other people reveals our character and heart. Luke 6:45 says, "A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good, and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out
of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks." It is so easy for us to sin with our mouth because we find it very difficult to refrain from critical and negative comments about someone we may not particularly like. We tend to lash out with hurtful words, instead of holding our peace, moving to pity and praying for that person. Even those who
neighbor. Wise men do not despise others in their hearts or slander them with harsh words. What we say and how we say it manifests wisdom, or the lack of it. What we say reveals how much we have let godly wisdom truly mature in us. In James 3:3-12, we learn of the power of the tongue and how it has destroyed many marriages, ruined friendships and produced
deserve to be despised, they are not our personal enemies - they are God's enemies. Romans 12:19 says, "Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, "Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord."" In Proverbs 11, Solomon warns against backbiting and insulting our
harm; yet through it, we can accomplish great good. God meant words to have power. He spoke the world into existence. Jesus used them to calm storms and heal the sick. In the same way, our words can have a positive or negative effect on others, depending on what we choose to say. We praise our heavenly
Father with our tongue, and out of the same mouth, we curse men who are made in God's likeness. God can no more accept words of love and devotion from a mouth full of insults and hatred than we can accept drinking water from a polluted well. We learn from Ecclesiastes 5:3 that, "Too much activity gives you restless dreams; too many words make you a fool." God hates evil speech about others, and He condemns backbiting, slandering, malice, and other related sins. Jesus tells us in Matthew 5:22: "But I say, if you are even angry with someone, you are subject to judgment! If you call someone an idiot, you are in danger of being brought before the court. And if you curse someone, you are in danger of the fires of hell." Even when someone is cursing us, we need to remember Solomon's advice to return a blessing for their curse; show yourself a child of the King. 1 Peter 3:9 says, "Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary,

repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing." The second greatest commandment tells us to love our neighbor (Matthew 22:39), and to love our enemies as well (Matthew 5:43-48). This leaves no room to hate or speak evil of anyone! Titus 3:3 tells us, "For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another." But when we grow as Christians in the likeness

Proverbs 11:13 of Christ, by the grace of God, and with the Holy Spirit abiding in us, we strive to live in the spirit, bearing His fruits of love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. God has forgiven me of all my weaknesses, sins, flaws, and infirmities. They are washed away by the blood of the Lamb and are as far from me as the east is from the west. Psalm 103:8-12 confirms this: "The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse,
nor will He harbor His anger forever. He does not treat us as our sins deserve, or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His love for those who fear Him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us." When Jesus was abused, scorned and spit on at His trial, He could have easily rebuked them, but instead, He remained silent. And on the cross, while the Roman soldiers gambled for His clothing, the
Page 25
religious leaders mocked Him, and the crowd blasphemed Him, He prayed," ... Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do," ... a prayer of unmatched mercy and love. We are to follow the very steps of our Savior, striving to be noble Christians, ruling our tongues, even when we suffer wrongfully at the hands of others. Ask ourselves if our words are gentle and full of mercy in any given situation. Do they resist anger and encourage peace? If they do, then our words reveal a heart that is full of our Savior's goodness.

Break Every Chain
“Breaking Free”
T
he movie, Break Every Chain, is based on a true story of Police Officer Jonathan Hickory from West Virginia, which stars Dean Cain and Ignacyo Matyni. The movie starts off with a flashback of Jonathan's childhood. Jonathan loves his father and loves doing things with him, but he finds it so hard to understand his feelings regarding his

father when he becomes sick. When Jonathan's father passes away, his lack of communication with him just incites his anger and frustration towards God. After Jonathan joins the police academy, he meets Stacy, the girl of his dreams. Regardless of the things in his past, Jonathan is very excited about the beginning of his new career as a police officer and his
new life with Stacy. After Jonathan graduates from the police academy with ease, he decides that it's time to marry Stacy. As they now begin their new life together, they are both optimistic of the future. But on Jonathan's first day on the beat, he starts to realize very quickly that the training to become a police officer is a whole lot different from being out on the street. After Jonathan's stressful first day on the street as an officer, Jonathan is severely bothered by the death and corruption that he is seeing. Jonathan's partner tells him how he copes with the stress of the job. He tells him that he is a Christian and he copes with everything by praying and that he reads his Bible, but Jonathan really doesn't want anything to do with God, as he is still bitter from his father's passing. After Jonathan's shift is over, and instead of going home, he decides to celebrate his first day on the streets and goes to a bar to have a few drinks. But as it happens, when you have a few drinks, they turned into many visits to the bar
for many more drinks and Jonathan started to become addicted to alcohol. Now Jonathan is also suffering from deep depression, and his wife Stacy starts to pray for him to start the healing process. Now Stacy tells Jonathan that they're going to have a baby and this helps lift him out of his depression for a short time, but the problem now is he just can't give up his drinking and he is now starting to become more of an alcoholic. But the ironic part of it all is that he becomes a decorated police officer, and Jonathan's career continues to move forward and improves, all the while his life outside of his career starts to fall to pieces. A personal tragedy now pushes Stacy and Jonathan to what may be the breaking point of their marriage. Jonathan needs to change, but rather than helping his family through the loss and start to heal, he just continues to turn to alcohol and away from God. Jonathan must decide whether he loses his job and family, or comes back to faith in Jesus Christ.
