OUR TEAM EDITORIAL

Great trees began as small seeds, and every significant achievement, enterprise, and company started from simple origins. As the year comes to a close, we want to focus on celebrating those small victories that drive our economies forward in big ways.

Our cover highlights an empowered mother and accountant, exemplifying professionalism and versatility and embodying the message, “A series of disciplined steps leads to a solid outcome,” as Hilda Hernández expresses in her column.

On another note, we showcase how the Academia de Hispanos Emprendedores has grown over 2024, and our center pages pay tribute to everyone who dared to study at this institution to propel their businesses in Clarksville.

Small actions from a community contribute to the advancement of this country, and that is why we close the year with a smile. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2025!

The Empowered Accountant Yarliz Rodríguez:

In the heart of Tennessee, a Hispanic entrepreneur is working to improve and grow financial outcomes for medium and large businesses. Yarliz Rodríguez, founder of Rodríguez Bookkeeping Services LLC, is a 32-year-old Puerto Rican whose passion and dedication are making a mark in Clarksville’s Hispanic business community.

An Inspiring Drive

Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Yarliz moved to the United States at age 12. “I’ve been here for over 22 years, but my Hispanic roots have always been my strength,” she shares warmly. After nearly a decade of working alongside María Jiménez, a prominent accountant in the community, Yarliz took the leap and established her own firm.

“It wasn’t an easy decision,” she admits. “As a mother of a young child, I had my doubts and fears. But María was my mentor and my biggest support. She said, ‘You’re capable, you

have what it takes.’ Her confidence in me gave me the push I needed to start,” she recalls. Yarliz began her business in December 2023 and it has been growing ever since.

Details That Make a Difference

Rodríguez Bookkeeping Services

LLC provides a full range of financial services: monthly accounting, tax preparation, new business registration, and comprehensive financial advisory. “What sets us apart is our personalized approach,” explains Yarliz. “As a small firm, I can give each client the time and attention they deserve. My clients can call, text, or email me, and I’m always available.”

This closeness has been key to her success. “Many of my clients appreciate that I understand not just the numbers but the context behind them,” she says. “I give them the freedom and trust to share their concerns. It’s not just a professional relationship; it’s a human one.”

This accountant admits, “Money is an important part of everyone’s life; it’s sensitive, and this career requires a lot of sensitivity. But even when you give your best and try to help, there are moments when clients have to pay, and some get upset, while others leave

happy,” she explains. That’s why she has learned not to take it personally and to move forward.

The Importance of the Hispanic Community

Yarliz is well aware of the challenges Hispanic entrepreneurs face in the U.S. “Language can be a barrier,” she says. “That’s why offering services in Spanish is essential. Many of my clients are not fluent in English, and knowing they can communicate in their language gives them peace of mind.”

Additionally, she understands the cultural and legal differences. “Hispanics sometimes don’t know the rules and regulations in this country. My goal is to guide them and ensure they comply with all standards, avoiding future issues.”

Both Hispanics and Americans have similar questions about finances and accounting, which is why “Each client is unique, and I like to understand their needs from the beginning,” she explains.

Balancing Motherhood and Entrepreneurship

Being a mother and entrepreneur is a challenge that Yarliz has tackled

“Having a reserve fund before starting a business is crucial. It provides stability as your business takes off.”

with determination. “My son is my driving force,” she proudly states. “Although it can be complicated, especially when you’re on an important call and your little one decides he needs your attention right then,” she says with a laugh after a few pauses to attend to her son.

She counts on the unconditional support of her husband, Fernando. “He’s my personal assistant,” she jokes with a smile. “We work as a team. When he gets home from work, I seize the opportunity to dedicate myself to my clients. It’s a balance we’ve achieved that works for our family,” she adds, noting her priorities: God, her family, and work, in that order.

“As mothers and professionals, it’s essential not to forget about ourselves,” Yarliz reflects. “Our mental health and well-being are fundamental for success in all areas of life. When we’re well, we can give our best to our families and clients.”

Entrepreneur’s Log

Yarliz has words of encouragement for those considering starting their own business. “No risk, no reward,” she says confidently. “If you feel in your heart that it’s the right time, go for it. There will always be fears and doubts, but you won’t know what you can achieve until you try.” She admits that she puts God first in everything, believing that if He allows something, it will surely be good as it offers learning, whether favorable or not.

She also emphasizes the importance of saving and financial planning. “It’s crucial to have a reserve fund before starting a business. This will provide stability while your business takes off,” and she applies this in her own life, as her husband’s steady job gave her the extra confidence to step out on her own.

Yarliz Rodríguez’s story is an inspiring testament to how determination, family support, her faith, and a passion for helping others can converge to create a successful business. Her dedication not only benefits her family but also strengthens the Hispanic community in Tennessee.

Looking to the Future

Planning ahead is a habit for this professional who, by managing her clients’ monthly accounting, can forecast estimates and advise monthly payments to avoid debt accumulation. “Don’t wait until the last minute to pay $10,000,” she shares as one of her strategies.

With a clear vision and unwavering passion, Yarliz plans to expand her services and continue supporting the Hispanic community. “I want to keep growing and help more entrepreneurs achieve their goals. Accounting isn’t just numbers; it’s understanding the stories and dreams behind each business.” With her unique policies, schedules, and

work methods, this entrepreneur aims to keep advancing with versatility in the coming years.

Having a Website is Essential. (Part II)

Digital Marketing Tool

A website is the foundation of all your digital marketing strategies. Whether you’re doing SEO (Search Engine Optimization), Google Ads campaigns, content marketing, or social media, your website is the ultimate destination where you direct traffic. Without a website, these strategies lose effectiveness and reach.

Competition and Advantage

Hispanic entrepreneurs need to compete not only with other Hispanic businesses but also with American-owned businesses and other communities. Having a well-

optimized website allows you to compete on equal footing. It’s not enough to have a great product or service; you need the visibility and accessibility of a website.

An Investment, Not an Expense

In today’s competitive business world, a lack of online presence can be the difference between success and failure. Hispanic entrepreneurs have the talent and determination to succeed, but they need to invest in their future and see the creation and maintenance of a website as a priority to position themselves and reach new levels of success.

Have you ever heard, don’t despise small beginnings? In order to build a great structure or raise one from the ruins, you have to start at the beginning. This beginning is not a quick result, but a series of disciplined steps that lead to a solid result. Alexandra Scott was diagnosed with cancer when she was less than a year old. When she was 4 years old, she had her first project to raise money for cancer research by starting a lemonade stand. By the time she

Beginnings

passed away, she had already raised over a million dollars. Today, Andy’s Lemonade Stand provides instructions and materials to help children have their own lemonade stand and raise money in the fight against cancer. Alex and his family were going through a very difficult time. The reality is that we know a lemonade stand would not provide hope in raising much funds. But with what they had, they started something that transcended and is still going strong. How many times do we minimize opportunities because they seem small and insignificant? I always think of the great business owners and organizations, and the people who are making a difference in society. They started their business with an idea. Many perhaps started in a small place, or with a few followers and even

a little money. What made the difference was the determination to persevere in a consistent discipline. They didn’t mind how small and insignificant everything was. As irrelevant as it may seem, these small beginnings prepare you for success. In chapter 4 of the book of Zechariah it says: “Do not despise these modest beginnings, for the Lord will rejoice when he sees that the work has begun and that the plumb line is in the hand of Zerubbabel.” The plumb line was a tool for building, and here we see that just grabbing hold of the tool made the Lord happy, because although it was a small beginning for the reconstruction of the temple, it was a start. Taking what you have in your hands and deciding to begin makes God happy. Do not despise what you have, decide to start building.

A New Generation of Hispanic Entrepreneurs is Rising!

The Academia de Hispanos Emprendedores proudly celebrates the resounding success of its first Entrepreneurship Program. From July to September, its participants immersed themselves in eight specialized modules, taught by experts from various fields, equipping them with the necessary tools to thrive in the competitive business world.

The classes, which covered key topics such as business model design, basic financial management, business taxes, digital marketing, leadership development, public speaking, human resources management, and digital and business banking, were a true treasure trove of practical knowledge. Each session was designed to tackle the practical and unique challenges that Hispanic entrepreneurs face daily on their path to success.

This pioneering program was made possible by the valuable support of the

TN Placemakers Entrepreneurship Fund, the ClarksvilleMontgomery County Economic Development Council, the Google Grant, and the Kleeman Recreation Center, which hosted the in-person sessions. The Academy especially acknowledges Mayor Joe Pitts for his unwavering support, which was instrumental in this achievement.

As a nonprofit organization, it extends special gratitude to its professors, who not only shared their vast expertise but also showed an unbreakable commitment to each student’s success. Their dedication left a lasting impact on this first generation of Hispanic entrepreneurs, who are now better equipped to face the business world.

In the words of María Jiménez, Director of the Academia de Hispanos Emprendedores, “Infinite thanks also to the students! Your dedication and effort have been inspiring.” The team extends its gratitude to everyone, including the Kleeman Recreation Center and its allies, who made this dream a reality.

“The Academy is deeply proud of the positive impact and specialized knowledge our instructors have provided to address the unique

challenges of Hispanic entrepreneurs,” expressed María Jiménez, General Director of the Academy.

This is just the beginning! We invite everyone to stay tuned for upcoming initiatives, as the commitment to empower the Hispanic entrepreneurial community in Tennessee continues.
