Historic New England envisions the Haverhill Center for Preservation & Collections as a catalyst for a local arts and culture district with global reach in downtown Haverhill, Massachusetts, with over 600,000 sq. ft. of developable space.

The establishment of this cultural district will serve as a catalyst, bolstering local and regional businesses, arts, environmental, and social institutions, while also attracting new visitors and revenue to the area. The expansion of the Historic New England Center for Preservation & Collections in downtown Haverhill will welcome visitors and offer exhibition spaces, fostering partnerships to develop residential, innovation, hospitality, and dining facilities.

Additionally, the Haverhill Center will contribute to an enhanced streetscape, featuring expanded public art, improved lighting, signage, and green spaces.

Historic New England – founded as the Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities in 1910 – is the oldest, largest, and most comprehensive independent preservation organization in the United States, welcoming the public to thirty-eight exceptional museums and landscapes, including several coastal farms.

The organization operates a major collections and archives center in Haverhill, Massachusetts, and has the world’s largest collection of New England artifacts, comprising more than 125,000 decorative arts and objects, and 1.5 million archival documents including photographs, architectural drawings, manuscripts, and ephemera. Engaging education programs for youth, adults, and preservation professionals, and award-winning exhibitions and publications are offered in-person and virtually.

The Historic New England Preservation Easement program is a national leader and protects 125 privately owned historic properties throughout the region.

For donors of unrestricted gifts or pledges of $250,000 and above who value meaningful public recognition for themselves, their families, or would like to honor the memories of loved ones, we have select naming opportunities available.

Donors of gifts and pledges of $50,000 and above will be recognized on our Welcome and Exhibition Center donor wall as Haverhill Center Catalysts for the visionary impact of their philanthropy, and as part of the Haverhill Center Founder’s Circle for their support of the Welcome and Exhibition Center—the first phase of the entire Haverhill Center endeavor.
