1942 American-Made West Africa 5 Francs Note
Own an interesting piece of monetary history! After the German occupation of France in 1940, French West Africa (Afrique Occidentale française, AOF for short) declared allegiance to Vichy France, who retained control until the Allied landings in North Africa in November 1942. With France still occupied and most of its resources plundered by Nazis or working toward the resistance movement, an American printing company, E.A. Wright Bank Note Company of Philadelphia, was contracted to produce currency notes for the region, as can be seen on the bottom of both sides of the note. 4½"x 2½".
