Welcome to White County, Indiana
W
hite County, Indiana, is a friendly place to live, work and visit. Located midway between Chicago and Indianapolis, our communities are examples of the American small-town spirit. Local neighbors talk with and help each other. Our residents know strong families are important, so our restaurants, shops and recreational areas are geared to them. Our business community shares that attitude. We welcome new companies from all over the world and help them succeed. After all, healthy, growing businesses mean a stronger local economy. And while the pace of life is relaxing, there’s plenty of fun and excitement for everyone. Knowledge and learning are important to White County residents and businesses. For children and young adults, we have excellent public schools that earn high ratings from the state. Our schools provide challenging instruc-

tion delivered by caring teachers to ensure that our young people develop the skills they need to be successful as adults. The pace of life is slow and easy in White County, but there’s plenty of fun and excitement. Lake Freeman and Lake Shafer offer many kinds of outdoor activities, including swimming, boating, fishing and more. Indiana Beach amusement park combines exciting thrill rides with musical entertainment, food favorites and quaint shops. Nearby Purdue University offers athletic and cultural events, and community festivals provide a great way to meet neighbors. If you choose to bring your family or business to White County, we will work with you every step of the way to help you reach your goals more quickly.
Regards, Randy Mitchell, president, White County Economic Development

daville is an unincorporated town on the county’s east side, and municipal means are taken care of by Lincoln Township Trustee Alan Sickler. About 461 residents live in the town, based on the 2010 census. It has its own a volunteer fire department, which often helps neighboring communities with emergencies, as well as watches over Idaville. Because Idaville is part of the Twin Lakes School Corporation, children from Idaville attend Eastlawn Elementary School in Burnettsville to the east and attend middle school and high school in Monticello.
Idaville
Idaville is known for its twice annual truck and tractor pull, which brings in thousands of tourists and competitors to the area in June and August. In the competitions, customized and tricked-out trucks and tractors compete on a 320-foot track with the vehicle pulling its load the furthest wins its driver the top prizes. The August pull is in its 69th year, while the spring event will

pocket park at 103 E. 3rd St., just off Market Street, the main thoroughfare through town that is also U.S. 421. Monon residents have been focused on reclaiming their heritage in the last few years, renovating the old Monon Theater at 421 N. Market St., as well as moving forward with a planned large splash pad at Monon Park. The park also has walking trails and multiple baseball and softball fields where tournaments are held. A former bank at the northwest corner of Market and 4th streets has now become an elegant community center with much of the original 1800s dĂŠcor intact.
