Hong Kong Arts Administrators Association was founded in 1985. Our mission is to promote, develop, represent and support the entire scope of the arts administration community in Hong Kong. The Association has been empowering its members and fellow arts administrators in Hong Kong through various channels to fulfill the three main areas of the Association’s work, which are: Professional Development and Training through courses, workshops, internship and mentorship, and our Annual Summit; Knowledge and Communication Platform through networking events, interflow programmes, the Internet and numerous other communication platforms; Advocacy by making active contributions to policy discussions. 1985

About Cultural Leadership Summit 2022

2022 Hong Kong Arts Administrators Association (HKAAA) presents the 12th Cultural Leadership Summit - “International Cultural Exchange”. The three-day online conference will be held during 17 19 August 2022.

The engaging roundtable discussions and closing plenary provide oppor tunities for expert speakers from various fields to discuss Hong Kong’s role as a vibrant hub for arts and cultural exchanges between China and the rest of the world, along with the prospects of cultural tourism to attract local and foreign visitors to Hong Kong.

由香港藝術行政人員協會(HKAAA 屆文化領袖論壇以「國際文化交流」為主題,將於)主辦、為期三天的第十二 8月17 19日 文化活動停擺,但不減藝術家透過不同形式、跨越地域界限呈現在網上舉行。全球一體化下促進了各地之間的國際文化交流,儘管疫情令很多藝術。是次論壇囊括工作坊及研討會,延攬了世界各地的資深藝術行政領袖及藝術實踐者,將集中與參與者探討三大範疇,包括學習鄰近地區的文化輸出及引進的成功案例、分享藝術家駐留及內地演出的發展方向,以及新時代下的文化交流模式。當中包括打破傳統模式的概念巡演(

Concept Touring ),以至開拓元宇宙 Metaverse 化藝術交流的重要紐帶,於文化輸出及引進的區位優勢及推動角在圓桌討論及總結環節,不同領域的講者將討論香港作為中外文生態,滋養大眾的藝術生活。)市場,引入另類文化交流的可能性,構建多元藝術色,展望更廣泛傳播香港的文化魅力至國際舞台;透過文旅結合,塑造吸引本地人及外地旅客關注的文化藝術都市。今屆的文化領袖論壇將提供一個互動的網上交流平台,匯聚參加者探討藝術帶來的各種機遇及可能,窺探發展趨勢,激發藝術的生機和力量。

Globalization has fostered international cultural exchange, and whilst many cultural events have ground to a halt under the pandemic, artists have remained active by presenting their work using various formats that reach beyond geographical barriers.

The Summit consists of workshops and symposiums, gathering seasoned arts leaders and practitioners from around the world to discuss topics focusing on successful regional case studies on cultural exports and imports, cultural exchange opportunities through artist residencies and the potential of Mainland China’s market, and new touring methods like “Concept Touring” and the Metaverse, creating a multi-dimensional art environment that enriches peoples’ lives.

This Summit will serve as an interactive platform for participants to explore trends and opportunities in the arts and stimulate arts develop ment in times of change.

In line with the Outline of the National 14th Five-Year Plan which reaffirms Hong Kong’s role as the “East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange”, HKAAA is committed to providing professional de velopment opportunities that drive the growth of the arts and cultural sector. The three-day workshops and symposiums of the Summit cover different topics, bringing artists, curators, arts managers, and funding bodies together to exchange ideas and strengthen our partnerships. We look forward to working together in building a diverse “East-meets-West” cultural hub.

On behalf of the Hong Kong Arts Administrators Association (HKAAA), it gives me great pleasure to welcome you all to the 12th edition of the annual Cultural Leadership Summit – “International Cultural Exchange”.

Bravo to my colleagues in the Summit Sub-Committee and the management for putting together the terrific agenda and speaker line-up. The theme for 2022, International Cultural Exchange, focuses on the latest cultural exchange methods, covering different exchange opportu nities and learning from success stories. Cultural exchange is not a new subject, but changes do happen all the time in its substance, form and model. 主席,藝術展覽公司、文化機構莎賓娜.巴瑞切提女士為意大利烏甸尼遠東電影節的創始成員兼 C. E .C.之主席,發行公司 Tucker Film之收購顧問,Ties That Bind聯合創始人兼顧問,以及弗留 莎賓娜利電影中心董事會成員。 1967年出生於烏甸尼,1994 年畢業於文學專業,其論文 是關於 Vito Pandolfi的電影 Gli Ultimi ,該電影於 90年代末進 行修復。自1991年以來,她一直參與 C. Festival Director, Far East Film Festival Sabrina Baracetti is the founding member and President of Udine Far East Film Festival, president of cultural organization C.E.C., an arthouse exhibition company, acquisitions consultant for the distribution company Tucker Film, co-founder and consultant for Ties That Bind and member of the Board of Directors at Friuli Cinematheque.

Sabrina was born in Udine in 1967 and graduated university in 1994 with a degree in Literature. Her thesis was on Vito Pandolfi’s film ‘Gli ultimi’, a rediscovery work which helped the subsequent restoration of the film at the end of the 90s. Since 1991, she has been involved in programming and promoting C.E.C. activities, and she became its president in 1995. In 1998, she coordinated a retrospective dedicated to the history of Hong Kong cinema, which evolved into the Udine Far East Film Festival under her direction the following year. Sabrina has been a member of many festival juries and a nomination advisor for the Asian Film Awards.

Mr Timothy Calnin 簡寧天先生 Director, Tai Kwun Arts 大館藝術總監 Timothy Calnin has held senior positions with leading musical and artistic organizations in Australia, Europe and Asia, including the Academy of Ancient Music, the Ulster Orchestra, the Broadcasting Cooperation and the Symphony Orchestra. In 2003, Timothy became Artistic Consultant of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra before being appointed its Chief Executive in 2005. During his six years in Hong Kong, Timothy expanded the Orchestra’s education, professional development and community programmes, taking the Orchestra on frequent tours to Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. In April 2017, Timothy was appointed Director of the Central Police Station, trading as Tai Kwun: Centre for Heritage and Arts and led the operations of Tai Kwun at the Central Police Station compound. In April 2020, Timothy became Director of Tai Kwun Arts, a new subsidiary company of Tai Kwun Centre for Heritage and Arts, which was formed to curate and produce Tai Kwun’s annual programme of exhibitions, perfor mances, talks, events and festivals.

Chan Oi Ying graduated from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (BA). She primarily studied Chinese calligraphy with Adjunct Associate Professor Tong Kam Tang Vincent as her advisor. She also studied ink-related courses like Chinese Landscape Painting and Xieyi: Chinese Expressive Painting. After graduating, Oi Ying continued creating Chinese calligraphy artwork and currently teaches calligraphy courses. In her works, Oi Ying emphasises the spirit of learning from the ancient masters and the classical method of learning calligraphy. At the same time, she also adds contemporary visual elements to calligraphy, including street art forms, collage and graffiti. Additionally, she has hosted TV programmes like the 15-episode RTHK programme ‘Breathing Aesthetics - Appreciation of Ancient Chinese Paintings’ and demonstrated calligraphy in 30 episodes of ‘Breathing Aesthetics Season 2 - “Brush Dance’.

Winsome Chow is the Chief Executive of Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC). Since joining HKADC in 2015, she has been introducing improvements to the Council’s long-standing grant schemes and devising new ones, like the Matching Fund Scheme that has helped arts groups to grow with the support of their donors and sponsors. She is keen to promote cultural exchange and has led over 700 arts practitioners to various overseas festivals, expos and arts markets in Australia, Canada, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands. In 2020 and 2021, she promoted 24 arts programmes in major cities in Mainland China with some in digital formats. To help artists and practitioners during the pandemic, she devised a Support Scheme to distribute the Government’s relief funds and concur rently sought sponsorship from the Jockey Club Charities Trust, engaging 68 arts organizations in a HK$25M project, ‘Arts Go Digital’. Currently, she serves on the boards or committees of several arts and cultural institu tions, sharing her experience and vision of arts administration.

A lifelong jazz fanatic, Adrian served as Executive Director of Jazz at Lincoln Center from 2007 to 2011. Prior to founding AEA, he served as Executive Director of The Conran Foundation in London, where he planned and managed the creation of the Design Museum. He began his career as a civil servant in the UK Treasury and the Cabinet Office, where he worked on service-wide efficiency reviews and privatization and ran the office of the Economic Secretary to the Treasury. Adrian received his B.A. (first class) and M.A. degrees at University College, Oxford, where he served as a College Lecturer in Politics and completed additional graduate work at London School of Economics. In 2007, she was appointed Director of Information Services and was the Government’s chief advisor on public relations and publicity matters. She was appointed Director of Leisure and Cultural Services from 2009 to 2014 to oversee the development and management of cultural, sports and recreation facilities in Hong Kong, including museums, public libraries and performing arts venues. As Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs from July 2014 to April 2018, she oversaw the formulation of culture, sports and district administration policies and was actively involved in the im plementation of the WKCD project, which includes the Hong Kong Palace Museum project. Betty was Head of the Policy Innovation and Co-ordination Office from April 2018 to November 2020 prior to her secondment to WKCDA.

The impact of art festivals has expanded beyond borders, and Fram was invited to be the artistic director for Shanghai Urban Space Art Season in 2019 and was appointed as artistic director for Tonglu Art Triennale, Zhejiang Province, China. He has been responsible for a wide range of art projects, such as the Antoni Gaudi exhibition that travelled to 11 Japanese cities in 1978-1979 and the Apartheid Non! International Art Festival (originally organized by UNESCO entitled Art against Apartheid). He has received high praise for his involvement in activities related to community development, such as his leadership in planning the FARET Tachikawa Art Project and the cultural activities he oversees at the Hillside Terrace. He has served as a general director and realized 3 art festivals (Northern Alps Art Festival 2020-2021, Oku-Noto Triennale 2020+, and Ichihara Art x Mix 2020+) in 2021, all in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2022, he is currently directing the Setouchi Triennale 2022 and Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale 2022.

Born in Niigata prefecture in 1946, Fram Kitagawa is a graduate of Tokyo University of the Arts. Since 2000, he has been the general director of the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale, a pioneer in rural revitalization through art, which has sparked the trend of art festivals throughout Japan, including Setouchi Triennale, where he also serves as the general director.

Teresa Kwong is a promoter, curator and producer for film and cross-dis ciplinary arts practices. Currently the Programme Director of the Hong Kong Arts Centre, she is committed to nurturing and promoting the next generation of arts talents. Teresa was awarded a Starr Foundation fellowship by the Asian Cultural Council to conduct research and undertake residencies at arts organizations specializing in film and media arts in New York (Eyebeam Art + Technology Center and Electronic Arts Intermix - video art distributor) and Los Angeles (REDCAT, the California Institute of the Arts) in 2007-2008. She is also one of the active independent film producers in town, working with up-and-coming filmmakers in Hong Kong and China since 2006. Her award-winning works as a producer include Liu Hao’s Addicted to Love (2010), Tsang Tsui-shan’s Big Blue Lake (2011) and documentary Flowing Stories (2014), Amos Why’s Dot 2 Dot (2014) , Napping Kid (2018) and Far Far Away (2021) as well as Ray Yeung’s Suk Suk (2019) which screened in the Berlinale 2020. Teresa has been invited to be the jury member of various in ternational film festivals and served as the selection committee member for the Hubert Bals Fund (Rotterdam) and Purin Pictures Grant (Thailand).

Ms Grace Lang 梁掌瑋女士 Programme Director, Hong Kong Arts Festival 香港藝術節節目總監 Grace Lang is the programme director of the Hong Kong Arts Festival and over the years has been responsible for co-producing many major events on the Festival programme. These include the first Asian city project of Der Fensterputzer(The Window Washer) by Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch in 1997, Dream of the Red Chamber by Bright Sheng and David Henry Hwang with the San Francisco Opera in 2017, and the Peking opera version of Princess Changping with the China National Peking Opera Company in 2018. In 2021, Grace produced the digital, COVID-19-safe version of Pathetic Fallacy by Anita Rochon with the Chop Theatre of Vancouver and produced the Asian premiere of Blindness , a sound installation by London’s Donmar SheWarehouse.hasbrought various major artists to China for the first time, including Canadian actor/director Robert Lepage, American/German director and playwright Robert Wilson, American choreographer, dancer and director John Neumeier, and Japanese Butoh dance icon Kazuo Ono. Grace attended St Stephen’s Girls’ College in Hong Kong and graduated from Wesleyan University in the USA with a Bachelor of Arts degree(High Honors). She holds a LRSM in Piano Performance and a Certificate in Arts Administration from the University of Hong Kong and the City, University of London. She has held positions at the Music Office of the Hong Kong Arts Centre and the Hong Kong Schools Music and Speech Association. In 2002, she was awarded the Medal of Honour by the Hong Kong Government.

Grace was a Mentor at the Atelier for Young Festival Managers in Singapore in 2011 and Edinburgh in 2014, a Jury Member of the European Opera-di recting Prize in Vienna in 2013, an Honorary Guest of the International Festival and Urban Development Forum and Arts Management Workshop hosted by the Tianjin Conservatory of Music and the Tianjin Cultural Centre in 2014, a Guest Speaker at the second China Performing Arts Leaders Advanced Seminar hosted by the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, and a Panel Speaker at the first World Opera Forum hosted by Opera Europa in Madrid in 2018.

Grace serves as an Expert Advisor to the Hong Kong Government’s Arts Capacity Development Funding Scheme, and has served on the Interna tional Advisory Board (Dance) of Denmark’s Hans Christian Andersen 2005 cultural event and on the Trustee Board of La Fondation des Artistes of the Consulate General of France.

He has been engaged in cultural and creative brand planning, cultural and creative industry commentary and art festivals and museum curation for more than 25 years. In addition, he has appeared on the front page of Shanghai Wen Wei Po twice and successfully triggered the discussion of ‘the cultural industry of one or more people’. From 2018 to 2020, Lee was the researcher for the project ‘City Cultural Exchange Network’ of Zuni Ico sahedron, Hong Kong and visited Berlin, Istanbul, Hanoi and other cities to conduct research. Since 2020, he has given more than 50 lectures on cultural and creative industries and art salons for institutions such as the Shanghai West Bund Art Museum, Oriental Sports Park and Get Advanced Research Institution. In 2019, he was the secretary-general of the prepara tory office of Shanghai’s ‘Future Cultural and Creative Tourism Alliance’. Joseph Lee is a Hong Kong-based choreographer and performer. He began his dance training at seventeen and graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and The Place, London Contemporary Dance School in the United Kingdom. Joseph is currently the Associate Artistic Director of Unlock Dancing Plaza, curating a series of contemporary dance programmes and platforms to foster artistic discourse in the performing arts field locally and internationally. He is interested in extracting, trans ferring and re-enacting bodily experiences which reveal the performa tive nature of everyday life in contemporary society, and he translates and re-organizes the experience and contexts within the physical body through live performance, writing, moving image and curation. Joseph’s work focuses on expanding the audience’s imaginary horizons of chore ography by creating and performing with the body and other alternatives. He is also keen on trans-disciplinary collaboration as a way to enrich and reflect on his own practices. Recent choreography includes Folding Echoes (2016), Drifting (2019), We Are Spectacles (2021) and Trajectory of Jumps Joseph(2022). won the Arts Development Award for Young Artist (2017) and the Chin Lin Foundation of Emerging Choreographer (2016). Hong Kong-based contemporary dance artist Wayson Poon lives and works in Europe and Asia as a creator, performer and researcher. His unique practice, known as OnthewayDance, combines eastern and western spiritual methodologies, is guided by the Taoist notions of ‘Qi’ and emphasizes the connection between dancer and audience. Notable works include Fleeing by night, in,visible(cities); and Vortex . His works have toured festivals in Denmark, Finland, Japan, Italy, China and the UK. Poon was awarded the Hong Kong Arts Development Award for Young Artist (Dance) in 2016 and received the Asian Cultural Council Fellowship in 2019. Anita Rochon is a performance director primarily focused on the creation of new work. Since 2006, she has been the Artistic Director of The Chop with Emelia Symington Fedy. The Chop has produced numerous new works and tours nationally and internationally.

She mentors and directs at Studio 58 and the National Theatre School of Canada, and is an alumnus of both institutions. As Deputy Director of the Cultural Services Branch of LCSD, which is comprised of three divisions, Eve is responsible for the planning and management of museums, performance venues, public libraries and indoor stadia; promotion and presentation of museum exhibitions, arts festivals, and visual, film, literary and performing arts programmes and intangible cultural heritage activities; conservation of cultural heritage; and the management of the Music Office. In addition to museum projects, she is also helping to develop other cultural facilities like new cultural centres and public libraries.

Over the years, Eve has worked with various museums and cultural insti tutions, including several new museum projects like the opening of the Hong Kong Heritage Museum and the establishment of the Oi! art space. She oversaw major renovations and extensions at the Hong Kong Museum of Art as the Museum’s Director between 2012 to 2019 and planned major museum projects like the expansion of the Hong Kong Science Museum and the Hong Kong History Museum as well as the establishment of the new Heritage Conservation and Resource Centre, amongst others, before she took up her current position.

Yvonne Tham is the Chief Executive Officer of The Esplanade Company Ltd, where she is responsible for the overall management and programming direction of Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay. She first joined Esplanade in 2014 as Assistant CEO of Esplanade and became CEO in 2018. Prior to joining Esplanade, Yvonne was Deputy Chief Executive Officer at Singapore’s National Arts Council and Director of Arts and Heritage Division at the then-Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts (now Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth). In her public sector roles, she was involved in developing the Renaissance City plans, as well as setting up the School of the Arts, Design Singapore Council, and the National Gallery. Yvonne also previously worked at the Ministry of Manpower and taught literature at a junior college.

Yvonne currently sits on the boards of Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), SISTIC.com Pte Ltd and the Singapore International Film Festival. She is Deputy Chairperson of the Association of Asia Pacific Performing Arts YvonneCentres.studied English as an undergraduate at the University of Cambridge, where she also completed her M.Phil in American literature. David Tsui received his Master of Business Administration from the Australian Graduate School of Management and his doctoral degree in Cultural and Creative Industry Management from The Graduate School of Chinese National Academy of Arts. He has extensive experience in financial management, human resources management, marketing management, property management and academic development. Since 2001, David has worked for cultural and creative organizations in both Hong Kong and Mainland China, specializing in company management and corporate governance. He was the Finance and Administration Manager of the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre, the Director of Administration of the Cheung Kong School of Art & Design of Shantou University and later became Associate Professor, Vice Head of Design Philosophy Department and Leader of the Creative Industry Planning and Management Major of the School. In 2014, David joined Hong Kong Dance Company as Executive Director. David is committed to promoting cultural and creative industry education. In 2019, Enid took a year off to study for a Master’s degree in art history and published a research paper on the Thai artist Tang Chang based on her thesis. She organized an NFT charity auction of works by five Hong Kong artists to raise funds for Operation Santa Claus last year, and recently returned from three months in Europe to cover major exhibitions and to catch up with artists in the UK and Germany after being grounded for over two years by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Karen Yu 余林橞小姐 Percussionist and Sound Artist 敲擊樂手、聲音藝術家 Karen Yu is a percussionist, sound artist and interdisciplinary arts researcher who uses sound-making as a medium to question and redefine the relationship between audience and performer.
