Process HKS is at the forefront of digital design and fabrication technologies. Parametric tools allow our designs to evolve through an iterative process. BIM allows us to accurately document and communicate our product in the most effective way possible - through design, construction and operation. Our ability to employ futuristic methods of fabrication is limited only by technology itself.
Digital Augmentation Pragmatic advantages that bring greater operational efficiency. Immersive Experience Through the convergence of data, digital media and physical space, served up in the same place and at the same time. We create an entertainment host environment that will out perform any other viewing experince. The fan becomes immersed in the event as a result of multimedia technology. Becoming a hub The stadium becomes a place that provides simultaneous connection to concurrent events happening elsewhere. Fans are simultaneously able to participate in multiple events, through handheld devices, dedicated spaces and through the stadiums technology infrastructure such as cameras and video displays. Before, during and long after the live game experience. Branding and Sponsorship Digital overlay emphasises brand in a way that is flexible and can be continually refreshed. Digital technology creates more high quality opportunities for sponsors.

3.0 > Revenue Based Design The HKS approach to stadium facility development pays particular attention to enhanced revenue generation increasing revenues through analysis of the spectator/ sponsorship base and by innovative product creation. Our initiative of ‘revenue based design’ begins with an in-depth study of city and regional demographics in order to define the spending capacity and financial characteristics of the supporter base, catchment area, and interested corporations. This is undertaken either by an in-house or external analyst group experienced in the economics of retail models, market tendencies, and the supply-and-demand performances of potential patrons. This analysis allows the Client to optimise and sculpt the product offerings and events within the stadium facility and surrounding precinct to a bespoke, realistic audience profile.
Left AT&T Stadium, Arlington, Texas, USA, 2009
Our design approach breaks from traditional venue design which applies ‘rule of thumb’ or conventional wisdom in making key design decisions. By analysing highly specific market demographic data we are able to precisely identify key strategic and design goals for your project. As a result, our venues are the right size, support the right calendar of events and contain the right inventory of fan experiences and environments.
4.0 > An Architecture of Place Expressing ‘Collective Identity’ Music, Food, Language, Poetry, Literature, Song, Dance, Clothes and Furnishings are just some of the essential ingredients that define a culture...... that imbue a people with a collective “identity”, a sense of belonging, and a sense of place. Architecture has a central role in this process – at once “shifting and shaping” space and informing space making through the varied agendas contingent on context. But “culture” and traditional identity are being increasingly challenged by the processes of globalisation, modern products of media and manufacturing are constantly eroding those visible aspects of “place” and “back-drop” that evoke the particular. The modern mass produced motor car, passenger planes and the hamburger: each in their way contribute to a process of cultural unification – as do corporate hotels and denim trousers. “There” as a concept in “place making” is lost to the point of becoming “everywhere”. Our Interpretation HKS are preoccupied with making “there” special and particular. Against that endeavour, we aim to challenge the processes of globalisation and, through our work, we seek to imbue our projects with a character that is relevant and to make an ‘architecture of
place’ - an architecture that makes sense of the essential qualities of “there” responding to local climate, topography and culture. An architecture that utilises local materials and engages local craft. Some aspects of “global” cannot, of course, be ignored. Our architecture also seeks to respond to new and expanding programmatic challenges of the stadium project. Our architecture responds to new agendas such as eco-sustainable design, but in all this we seek to respond in ways that are locally relevant and contemporary. For us, nothing can be more inappropriate and potentially inadequate than to transfer the architecture of “somewhere else” to a project. Our clients deserve and, indeed, will demand better. Our approach is therefore to reinforce the cultural identity of context, albeit we recognise that “identity” is dynamic rather than static, always evolving in response to the conditions that a place, in the widest sense of that term, responds. HKS will alway endevour to use our knowledge and skills to synthesise and enrich an architecture of integrity that generates local pride and commands external respect. An architecture that is so grounded in its response to its physical, cultural and social context that it would be, quite simply, meaningless anywhere else...

5.0 > Sports Interiors HKS Sports Interiors is the world’s only dedicated sports interiors design group. The distinguishing feature of our approach is that we combine general programming, spatial organisation, and semiotics to provide a rich hierarchy of patron choices which result in substantially increased profitability. Time and again clubs and operators are discovering that the integrated design approach of HKS unlocks enhanced revenues to the benefit of all.

We continue to “lead the way” in terms of digital and media augmentation of stadium environments. One such example is the HKS designed ‘Club Purple’ at US Bank Stadium, which is among a new breed of ‘Fantasy Football Clubs’ which use digital displays to transmit real-time sports data to its patrons. This is a fully augmented environment where fans will become immersed in and contribute to real time sports media streams.

6.0 > Sustainability HKS has been actively involved in environmental issues since the 1960’s when the company was instrumental in developing innovative low energy solutions to housing design and campaigning for efficient and renewable energy production.
