SUOMY PLANET 2006 Catalogue
FROM 1997 THE ADVENTURE WITH TOP RIDERS IN THE WORLD
FROM THE PAST TO THE FUTURE by SUOMY Records 1997 • Suomy first ventured in the racing world in the off-road competitions. Andrea Bartolini is the very first Suomy rider and he immediately brought us good results. He finished 5th in the 500 class of the World Motocross Championship and second with the Italian team in the prestigious Motocross des Nations, the National Teams’ World Cup. 1998 • Suomy makes its own début in road racing. The first Suomy rider is the former world champion Troy Corser. In this first season Troy brought Suomy on podium many times and at the end of the season he’s ranked third. Troy battled for the final victory until the last stages of the championship, but he’s taken out by an unfortunate crash during practice before the last round. 1999 • Suomy signs another Superbike star: Aaron Slight. Understanding the appeal of this growing championship, Suomy decides to concentrate its efforts on it for the following years and the choice proves to be right. Not only victories keep coming, but the success of the World Superbike Championship puts Suomy on the map, identifying it with the upcoming, cool brand. In off-road racing, Andrea Bartolini wins the 500cc World Motocross Championship as well as the Motocross des Nations with the Italian team. 2000 • Suomy and Ducati join forces. The cooperation brings victories as well as satisfaction on both parts. The deal started in 2000 is still going strong up to date and has moved out of the race track: Ducati and Suomy work closely together on many PR and Communication projects. In this first season of cooperation the Ducati squad undergoes highs and lows that force the team to a number of changes in the lineup. Still, Troy Bayliss and Ben Bostrom bring home a 6th and a 7th final standings position. Corser is third once again. 2001 • This is the year of Suomy’s début at the highest levels of the World 500cc GP Championship with Italian star Max Biaggi who is ranked third at the end of the Championship. It is also a year of triumph in the World Superbike Championship. Troy Bayliss wins the Championship with 6 victories and 9 podium finishes. Andrew Pitt wins the World Supersport Series, while the Klaffenbock Racing Team, with driver Klaffenbock and teammate Parzer, win the Superside Sidecar World Championship. Five out of seven Suomy riders (Troy Bayliss, Ben Bostrom, Troy Corser, Neil Hodgson, Ruben Xaus, James Toseland and Steve Martin) finish in the top six of the final standings in the Championship. Also, with the exception of race 2 in Sugo, Japan, which was taken by storm by the very determined Japanese wildcards, at least one Suomy rider was always on podium in each and every one of the races of the Championship. One final statistic: 17 out of the 25 races of the Championship were won by a Suomy rider (6 went to Bayliss, 6 to Bostrom, 2 to Corser, 2 to Xaus and 1 to Hodgson) and in six races (race 1 in Valencia, race 2 in Kyalami, both races in Laguna Seca, race 2 in Brands Hatch and race 2 in Assen) the whole podium was made up of Suomy riders. 2002 • Thrills and lots of great results for the Suomy riders this year. In the MotoGP Championship, Max Biaggi finished second after a tough beginning of the season where he lost many important points that could have come handy in the second half of the Championship. In the World Superbike Championship, Troy Bayliss dominated the first part of the season, won 14 out of 26 races and battled throughout against Edwards, giving up only in the last round in Imola and was second only 11 points behind the new World Champion. Great results in Motocross as well where Coppins and Beirer finished second and third respectively in the 250cc class. Beautiful and fast Elisa Sabatino won the Jet Ski World Championship once again.
2003 • A very important year for Suomy, 2003 saw the 250 World championship won by the Suomy rider from San Marino, Manuel Poggiali and the World Superbike Championship as won by English rider Neil Hodgson. In addition, the Suomy brand was further honored with many satisfying wins in all honoured classes and categories in racing championships around the world. Thanks to the top Suomy riders in MotoGP, Superbike, Supersport and Motocross riders in both the world and American championships, Suomy takes one step higher on the podium. 2003 was also a year that confirmed Suomy as the right helmet engineered and built for the very best riders at the highest levels of competition. Worn by many World Championship contenders, Suomy is the helmet of choice for such riders as Max Biaggi, Loris Capirossi, Troy Bayliss and Manuel Poggiali adding crucial victories in MotoGP, while Neil Hodgson and Ruben Xaus won in the SBK series with Bartolini in motocross as one of the best riders of the year. And we must not forget to mention Elisa Sabatino in the Jet Ski World Championship and Ben Bostrom and brothers Aaron and Alex Gobert in the AMA Championship in America as well as many other Suomy riders worldwide. 2004 • 2004 was, once more, another great year for Suomy both on tracks and for dealership. Big news that is sure to cause many manufacturers in Japan to take notice, Makoto Tamada signed on as the first Japanese MotoGP start to wear a no Japanese helmet - Suomy! Tamada joins the Suomy family of riders that counts some of the most prestigious names in racing and adds his name to the list of top riders who entrust their security to the Italian brand.
