Welcome

DR. LAURA LEATHERS

EUGENE MCDERMOTT HEAD OF SCHOOL

Dear Hockaday Parents, Alumnae, Faculty, and Friends:

Welcome to the 2024 Hockaday Parents’ Association Benefit, Gone Country. The Hockaday Parents’ Association Benefit Committee has planned a fun and festive evening for the community and is delighted to welcome our treasured Hockaday Parents, Faculty, Staff, Trustees, and Alumnae to the festivities, which include dancing, delicious food from Wolfgang Puck, and live music played by Prophets and Outlaws, along with special guest, Lucy Wrubel.

Tonight’s proceeds will benefit The Ela Hockaday Fund for Faculty Excellence. The Ela Hockaday Fund for Faculty Excellence endows Hockaday with additional resources that allow the School to attract and retain the best and brightest faculty. The Fund supports professional development, graduate studies, faculty salaries, and other enrichment opportunities for our faculty.

Please enjoy perusing the program for this year’s Benefit, which details the one-of-a-kind auction items that await you on this special night, and lists the many people, businesses, donors, and volunteers who make this extraordinary celebration of Hockaday’s community possible. Your generosity speaks volumes to our girls about the importance you place on their education and strengthens our ability to attract and retain the best faculty for our students.

As you celebrate with friends, please remember the hundreds of donors and volunteers who make this night possible and toast Meredith Lewis Perry ’02 and Erin Zopolsky, our Benefit Chairs, and Courtney Jones Johnson ’97, our HPA President.

With appreciation,

Laura

2024 HOCKADAY BENEFIT CO-CHAIRS

Howdy Friends!

Thank you for joining us tonight as we celebrate Hockaday and its “country” roots under these Texas stars. This evening has been a year in the making, and we are so excited to watch it come to life with each one of you!

It goes without saying that it is only through the generosity of not only our own Hockaday community, but that of the broader Dallas landscape that has made this evening and its offerings possible. Because of the selfless gifts of time, volunteering brainpower and creativity, and humbling financial support from both in and outside of our Hockaday community, we have an incredible evening in store!

So, hop in the saddle!! Purchase those last-minute raffle tickets, bid on incredible items and experiences in the silent auction, buy a chance to win some fantastic prizes in chance games, snag some souvenirs, and enjoy libations, dinner, and dancing.

Proceeds from this year’s efforts will support The Ela Hockaday Fund for Faculty Excellence, which provides Hockaday’s inimitable faculty with opportunities for professional growth and development and the chance to reenergize and refocus themselves as learners in their profession and facilitators in the classroom.

Leading this event has truly been our distinct honor and privilege. While the annual HPA Benefit may only last for a single evening, the community spirit, voluntarism, fundraising, outreach, and connection occurs over the course of an entire year. From Special Occasions to Merchandise, the Raffle to Silent Auctions, and Underwriting to Sponsorships, each facet of this evening has been spearheaded by dozens of volunteers and hundreds of generous donors. Without each one of them, none of this would be possible. So, to each one of you in attendance, and each one of you who has not only offered your time but gone above and beyond in the name of volunteering, we thank you from the very bottom of our hearts.

We tip our hats with warmth, joy, and sincere appreciation to all who joined us,

PROCEEDS FROM THIS EVENING WILL SUPPORT THE ELA HOCKADAY FUND FOR FACULTY EXCELLENCE

Supporting its Faculty is one of Hockaday’s most significant fundraising priorities.

Hockaday’s excellent teachers enrich our girls’ education and bring a freshness and vitality that is particularly engaging to the young women of Hockaday.

Established in 2008, The Ela Hockaday Fund for Faculty Excellence gives Hockaday a competitive edge to attract and retain the best and brightest faculty who help prepare our girls to lead exceptional lives. The Fund supports development, graduate studies, faculty salaries, and other enrichment.

Hockaday supports faculty excellence by funding professional development opportunities that include a combination of conferences, workshops, and study grants that support academics, curriculum development, and professional growth.

The beneficiaries of the Fund’s grants for professional experiences – through workshop attendance, participation in continuing education, and travel – return to their classrooms, studios, and playing fields energized and inspired with new ways to help Hockaday girls embrace learning!

JESSE BROSSA

"MORNING IN JUNE"

28” X 36” FRAMED SHADOW MAT GRAPHITE & OAK GALL INK ON WATERCOLOR PAPER

Jesse Brossa is a Hawaiian-born Californian who has a BFA in Fine Art Photography from CSUF but has spent much of the last decade working in simpler mediums – pencil, charcoal, and oak gall ink that he makes himself. “Oak gall ink is a simple and beautiful medium that I just love; different oak trees produce different color shades, ranging from warm caramel tones to more purple-blacks and making the ink is as much of a creative act as a finished piece. The medium is an old one; the recipe I follow is medieval, but there are 1st century recipes that are similar; somehow that lineage feels powerful to me, like I am having a conversation over time with other artists. I’m a huge fan of Claude Lorrain; he really embraced oak gall ink drawings as an end to themselves – finished pieces worthy of keeping (as opposed to mere preparatory sketches).”

BARTOSZ BEDA

“REFRESHED PLOT 01”

28” X 41” FRAMED INK-ON-PAPER
